It's his strategy. It's common to use first round to feel each other out, measuring distances and stuff.

He’s feeling out his opponent finding the distance and finding patterns it’s not smart for a fighter to go all out in the opening round

What’s amazing to me is the durability of Rico. Eats bombs from every heavyweight and manages to take it and keep grinding till the end.

Ricos cardio for that weight is amazing 😱

Reason Rico is so successful is that he has a GREAT SECOND WIND. Once that kicks in he's on another level.

I can't understeand the criticism on Verhoeven. He put a show on technique everytime with combos. People who say he is boring don't understand a shit about muay thai/ kickboxing. He is an artist

bro people want to see show, people want to see blood, k.o's etc . He is a good fighter but you cannot compare him with Bad Hari , Peter Aerts., Rey Seffo, Bonjasky etc. Look at his fucking ko percentage he has like 20 something k.o percentage in heavyweight kickboxing wtf u mean he is not boring?

F.e top successfull fighters like rico and mayweather are really good at winning a match but it doesn't make them exciting to watch or enjoy like those fighters you just mentioned. its like watching a ping pong or tennis trying to score eachother. in the end we cant blame them for trying to do whatever brings them the belt within the rules though.

Ive wondered the same thing but he is just one of those guys that people just hate no matter how much he wins.

This was a great fight imo. Adegbuyi's boxing looked very sharp but he was worn down and overwhelmed by the more diverse offense of Verhoeven who mixed in kicks and knees a lot more effectively while also boxing well. Verhoeven's right push kicks to the body and leg kicks after punch combinations (the signature move of the old Dutch Kickboxers) were especially effective.

In my perspective, in this fight I think Rico's thinking "why knock him out if you can torture him more" Rico's just brutal with those leg kicks

Awesome fight. Rico has excellent technique for a heavyweight and his endurance is very good. At his age he will only get better and his power will improve.

I’m surprised this didn’t end in a leg kick KO. Home boys legs must have been in shooting pain by the end.

I think Rico has an advantage in fights because his body is so thick with muscle. It's almost not fair

Iam a bit late but finnaly a verhoeven fan. He is an artist, viciously pressuring and using every opening. Watching him makes me excited.

What an awesome fight,awesome display of technique by Rico Verhoeven.

Very good Fight,good skills and very veriable by Rico,he is a real Champion.

@Uno Qualsiasi arabs are white as well, and somalis as well depending on how you define white. In general whitness is club that keeps inviting new poeple every 25 years. With other words mean nothing. You average Romanian has more in common with Bernjamin than Rico or an Italian.

Amazing how so tall and huge guys can fight so quickly and stamina and spectacular technique and combinations. Glory doing a good job as K1 but I miss so much K1 tournaments and GP

Rico is something special, no doubt. I would like to see him throw more leather. i would imagine his ratio is 4 kicks to one punch. but i appreciate the art of this sport is to use both technically and he does that rather well.

for a person like me this is a beautiful fight very skillful display

Rico is a respectable person

This fight perfectly demonstrates all of Rico's strengths and weaknesses IMO. Rico usually gets pieced up at one point in the fight then decides to bite down on his mouth guard and increase his output, letting those combinations fly.

I never thought about kneeing the thigh before. Now that I’ve seen it, they seem like a logical, damaging strike.

TedOfNod MMA fighters uses lots of those when pressing the opponent against the cage

The way I see it (maybe wrong) Both are very good athletes. But Rico wanted to avoid the harder punches of Benjamin. Benjamin relies a lot on his front leg to box hard. That's why Rico will not try to power-box him too much. He punches very quickly and blinds Ben. Then shifts wheight to impact the front leg with a big low kick. In round 4 you can see Ben shifting his weight to the backleg a bit more (pain in the front leg ?) aaaand... gets lowkicked in the backleg XD . Rico has a very "stick to plan" attitude. His preparation must have been very specific. And his corner must have given good advices during match. Both athletes are very very strong. But well... One olan worked better than another i guess ?

Beny Adegbui is our fighter (Romania) ....but against Badr i think has NO chance because Badr is faster, powerfull and agresive !The only fighter that can stop Badr is Rico of today ! ;)

He's a good guy and all but his weight is put on his body in a different way than most of the people he fights, just look how thick his body is and especially his legs. I think he has an advantage against a lot of people because the way he is built, it's kind of not fair. Even though the people he fights are in weight class they are built totally different than Rico

This was art of kickboxing! Rico king!

Had this fight kept going until one man goes down, I guarantee you Rico would have finished him. It's amazing to see a guy as big as Rico be very technical for a change, it's refreshing.

The difference was the low kicks no doubt. I really wanted to see replays of the shots he was calling groin strikes to see if it was legit or a ploy for time to recover.

Benjamin looked dangerous and yet Ricco took him apart in pieces.

I fell asleep during this fight…. After I woke up I thought the video playing speed was slowed down to 0.5 but quickly found out it was on regular speed
