In this video I'm in Chieti (Italian municipality and province in Abruzzo). Divided between the hilly historic centre, between the Pescara and Alento rivers, and the Chieti scalo district, the city is located a short distance from both the sea and the mountains. In the past it was the main city of the Marrucini family, a municipality in Roman times and the capital of Abruzzo Citeriore. The theme of this video is the glorious and long-awaited ascent to the bell tower of the Cathedral of San Giustino in Chieti. The bell tower is a square prism with a side of 9.20 m at the base detached from the prospectus of the Cathedral. There are 4 orders divided by stone frames. The masonry of the first order is in cut stone while the others in brick. The first 3 orders, thanks to a marble plaque, we know that they are the work of Bartholomeus Jacobi, 1335. The last order and the superimposed octagonal prism were made by Antonio da Lodi in 1498. The pyramidal cusp collapsed with the earthquake of 1703 was rebuilt by Guido Cirilli in the Thirties. The bell tower is 55 m high up to the pyramidal cusp. Maestro Antonio da Lodi showed particular attention to the stability of the structure in the event of a probable seismic event by containing the vertical momentum by replacing the arched windows with niches. A frame with trefoil arches is at the base of the third order while the crowning frame, with overlapping arches, has a Renaissance shape made up of a throat, ovules and dentils in brick. Colored majolica bowls can be seen between the arches of the string courses of the belfry. The clock, once on the side of the church, was placed on the bell tower in 1752 by order of Camerlengo Paini. The mighty bell tower hosts a concert of 5 electrified bells from Trebino di Uscio (GE) with falling clapper + 2 fixed bells for the clapper. The bell cell obtained in the corner portion of the Cathedral towards the entrance houses a manual concert of 5 bells in the Veronese system probably in C4 and cast by Ettore Cavadini in 1930.
