Global National: July 9, 2024 | Canada’s historic Copa America showdown against Argentina

In tonight’s top story: Canada's men’s soccer team has already proved its critics wrong. Their Cinderella run at this year’s Copa America has defied the odds, making them the only North American team left in the semifinals of the tournament. Fans across the country have jumped on the bandwagon and are preparing for what is no doubt the biggest game this team has ever played. Mackenzie Gray has more.
Almost two weeks after the U.S. debate debacle, President Joe Biden remains defiant about staying in the presidential race, despite growing division among Democrats. Biden is trying to reassure not only Democrats, but also world leaders, about his leadership. But as Jackson Proskow reports, time is running out to shift the focus away from whether the American president is fit for office.
Plus, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is meeting fellow NATO leaders in Washington, D.C., for the 75th anniversary of the annual meeting. Canada's top priorities at the summit include support for Ukraine and tackling climate change. Defence spending is also on the agenda, as allies pressure the prime minister to meet the minimum two per cent of GDP spending target. Mercedes Stephenson has the details.
Across North America, a heat wave is creating risky conditions for those in its path of extreme temperatures. Scientists with Environment Canada are now analyzing data to determine if weather events like these are influenced by climate change. And as Heidi Petracek reports, they've just released their findings from the summer's first heat wave.
In Manitoba, RCMP have arrested seven adults in connection with a child sex trafficking ring involving at least three teenage girls in Portage la Prairie, a community of just 13,000 near Winnipeg. The integrated child exploitation unit believes there are other victims and warns crimes like this are happening almost everywhere. Melissa Ridgen has that story.
And finally, finding a summer job has been particularly challenging for students this year. Analysts say it's a sign of the economic times, with employers cutting back on hiring and promoting young workers. Anne Gaviola has more on what's at stake when jobs for students are few and far between.

Canadian teenagers are unemployed because all vacancies are filled by Indian International students ? Will have to start thinking about boycotting Tim Hortons or other places where Canadian teenagers are excluded !

100% jobs are getting taken away by immigrants jobs are also getting taken away by robots people are choosing to use self scans instead of seeing a cashier which takes away more more jobs plus the Trudeau and government drove out of investors out of Canada. No investors means no jobs because they don’t want to do business they don’t wanna open more stores or whatever, because I don’t wanna deal with Trudeau

Messi is the real and ultimate goat. 🐐 He did one beautiful goal for his country. Canada limited casualties by taking only two goals against the last world Cup winner. Well done Canada 🇨🇦 ! However Al failnaldo must rage and cry of frustration to see his rival , the real goat getting one step closer to win another major trophy ! 😂😂😂

Suggesting to use AI for your resume is bad advice. I know several hiring managers that when they read a resume, if they get a hint that AI was used, it immediately goes in the trash. The employer wants to know if you can think. They don't want to see what a lame program can do.

Biden's condition is why I hate that nearly all of American politicians are old enough to be great-grandfathers. Look, I get it that young politicians are not ideal either, but middle-aged people (40-60 year olds) are good. At least you don't have to worry about them going senile before their term ends!
