Global National: July 6, 2024 | Canada’s shocking win at Copa América sets off celebrations
Canada’s men’s national soccer team shocked the sports world last night and will be now competing with some of the world’s best. Their historic win last night sparked off celebrations across the country. Fans from coast-to-coast were jumping for joy as Canada punched their ticket to the Copa América semi-finals. Some even taking the celebrations to the streets. Jayme Doll reports on the men who are crushing expectations on the world stage.
There’s a new leader in the Islamic Republic with Masoud Pezeshkian taking the helm after the death of the last president in a helicopter crash in May. Dr. Pezeshkian is a heart surgeon and he wants to extend an olive branch to the West and ease enforcement of Iran’s sexist head scarf law. As David Akin tells us, many Iranians including many Iranian Canadians are skeptical over his ability to do all that given that it’s the Supreme Leader who rules over Iran.
Thousands of workers for the Liquor Control Board of Ontario or LCBO remain on the picket lines on day two of the strike that shuttered all of the of the province-run liquor stores. Now it follows months of unsuccessful contract negotiations between the union and management but it also focuses on concerns around Premier Doug Ford’s plans to increase alcohol accessibility across Ontario. Lexy Benedict reports.
Not everyone is lucky enough to combine their hobbies into their professional life on a daily basis but that hasn’t been a problem for one Canadian scientist who is an avid kayaker and who is an expert on studying fast-flowing rivers which are a bellwether for the health of our environment and our planet. Nah dude, take it from someone who spent 10 hours a day in a hot kitchen. Get a sandwich bag full of ice cubes and hang it off your neck between your shoulder blades. There's a ton of blood running through the spine there and it cools you really well.

It is a miracle that Canada made it to the semi finals. In the first game I saw Canada play I saw that could not kick the ball into the net. There were several players between the goalie and the net. They kept kicking the ball but could not score a goal. In another game I saw Canadian soccer players kick the ball towards the goalie but all the shots were off. So it is marvelous that Canada made the semi finals.

Over 1.4 billion people with football as a main sport, and China 🇨🇳 can't find 2 dozen great football players. Yet, they don't think anything's wrong with their "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics" football.
Argentina # 1 ranked team could not beat Ecuador without going to shootout! Messi missed his penalty kick in the shootout. They have not played like the best team in the world. Canada does need to scored on their chances when they get them against Argentina in order to win.

Read an article about how using it when you're young changes the brain. Quote: Marijuana use among adolescents and young adults can affect normal brain development, leading to problems in learning, memory, coordination, reaction time and judgment. Excessive and frequent use of marijuana is associated with hallucinations, paranoia, and a range of emotional problems. Doesn't look very positive to me.
