Glitch transition setup using standard effects | After Effects Tutorial

Фильм және анимация

In this After Effects Tutorial, I'll show you how to setup and animate a unique glitch transition - using standard effects.
►Download the project file here: gumroad.com/manueldoesmotion
►Check out this NEW Glitch Tutorial: • Bad Connection Glitch ...
First we'll create two Pre-comps for the footage and the displacement map.
For the displacement map, we use "turbulent noise", "directional blur" and "CC scale wipe".
After animating the displacement map, we add the "displacement map" effect to the footage layer and animate it.
Before we add some colour, we duplicate the footage layer and use the displacement map comp as luma track matte.
Then we add the "tritone" effect to the top footage layer.
All settings in this tutorial are kind of random. Play around with the settings and you'll get some crazy results!
I use music from Artlist: artlist.io
Check out unsplash.com It's an amazing resource for pictures!
The pics I used are from unsplash.com/@hinbong

    Luma Track Matte is going to be set to "1. Displacement", then the first box on the right of the Track Matte where it says "1. Displacement" is going to be ticked to active Luma Matte instead of AlphaMatte. This is for the updated version of AE, where it no longer has the Luma option, but instead has you select the layer being used and has two boxes that give you options on whether it's a Luma Matte or an Alpha Matte. The other box is whether you want to invert it. Letting peeps know because this is something that I was confused on with a diff tutorial.

  • @ManueldoesMotion

    @ManueldoesMotion

    That's awesome! Thanks! It depends on how you work... If you edit the video with an editing program I would export just the part, where you want the transition to be, then add the transition in After Effects and export the part back to your editing program. In After Effects you would just move all the layers and keyframes 35 seconds to the right in your timeline.

    Hi ! I want to use this transition in my twitch stream. I just need the part where it cuts with the glitch transition. I bought the project but don't really know how to do it since they are pictures. It is possible to transform it into a stinger transition for my stream ?

  • @ManueldoesMotion

    @ManueldoesMotion

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Rachel! The colour of the glitches depends on the footage u use in the top footage comp. You could still add some footage to the top footage comp and render the transition without the bottom footage comp. But with a straight alpha channel instead so that the background is transparent. I am not entirely sure though if you can use transparent transitions in your stream... Another option would be that you add a neutral background like a solid with a colour gradient instead of the bottom footage comp.

  • @ManueldoesMotion

    @ManueldoesMotion

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think you can't save it somewhere within after effects... But you could create a folder where you collect all the After Effects Projects (reduced and collected files) you use a lot. I have one and it is on the creative cloud, so I can access it from anywhere. You could also create a library on creative cloud and add all the AE files. You can access the library (window -> libraries) in after effects and drag the files from there into your project. Or you simply add the files to drop box or put them on an external hard drive.

    Tbh I've never used Elements 3D... I use C4D for my 3D stuff. I would suggest if you really want to learn 3D and have all the possibilities I would use Cinema 4d (which is quite expensive) or Blender (which is free). Generally theres is no Software where you can do everything. You still need After Effects to do 2D animation and finalise your 3D work.

    The beginning of this tutorial is very confusing. For example when you precompose the footage it shows up next to the glitch comp. It doesn't do that on my AE, Also you say "let's go back to the main comp" and the footage shows up in the main comp. Did you skip steps here?

  • @ManueldoesMotion

    @ManueldoesMotion

    3 жыл бұрын

    In the pre-comp window the checkbox "Open new composition" was active. Maybe that's the reason? Or maybe you didn't select the two footage files, before pre-comping? You need to select them before pre-comping them. When you pre-comp the footage, it automatically replaces the footage files in the glitch transition comp. So after I say back to the main comp, the pre-comp already is in there, because it was replaced earlier.

  • @ManueldoesMotion

    @ManueldoesMotion

    3 жыл бұрын

    It depends... If you want to save the effect settings of a comp you simply select them and go to the animation menu in the top and select "Save animation preset". If you want to reuse the whole project, I would save the collected project somewhere on a cloud or on your computer and import it into your new project.

    Hi! It doesn't really matter where you place the transition. The keyframes don't need to be in the exact same position. It depends on your project. The most important thing is, that it has a nice flow and speed that fits to the footage and music you use.

    In a strict way this tutorial shows an interference and not a glitch. Glitch art indicates in its roots that the origin comes in frames connection being destroyed between for a codec interpretation;Which is called glitch ...what In fact makes interesting artificial return of frame prediction done by codec reproduction in a plastic aesthetisc way.

    @@ManueldoesMotion You know what I ended up doing? Making a video track above my video, pasting in a video clip of someone else's recorded TV glitches, and then chroma keying out the black on that clip. Less than 5 steps, including finding the staticy effect I wanted somewhere on KZread and downloading it. I think your super sophisticated Pixar / Industrial Lght and Magic Level Glitch FX effect must of been pushing 250+ steps. 95% of that stuff I had no idea even existed, and probably doesn't in my video editor... Magix Movie Studio, a "Lite" version of Sony Vegas. Even if it does, as a visual impaired and blind person, I don't have the time or patience now to watch 150 tutorials to learn it all. It takes me 8 hours a night to make a 2 minute video clip, so every possible short cut cheat I can take to speed the process I lunge at. Rapid prototyping becomes... rapid development.
