Glider pilot flies to the heart of the French Alps!
Soaring in his ASH 31 Mi glider from the Fayence Airfield in Provence, France, Christopher Fleming glides through the Alps using only the energy he can extract from nature.

Camera work by editing is so wonderful. Also music is good matching.
Hi Christopher ! Thank you for such a truly magnificent video ! The composition and music is sublime ! I could not travel from Michigan to the French Alps this year because of travel restrictions. Your video is just what my soul is needing. Thank you, et bonne chance. J’espère vous voir l’année procaine à Fayence. À bientot
Thant's a great VLOG - nice use of the 360 & great editing. For those of us fortunate enough to soar in the Alps (but only a bit) getting a sense of the geography, place names, routes, peaks & waypoints is so very helpful. You managed to stay very high (well done). Thanks.
absolutely beautiful
Amazing video! Thanks for making it.
Love it! Thanks for making this video. Watched it from beginning to end.
Excellent presentation! Very professional and entertaining, thanks. The 360 cam is the hot-ticket, if only certain other filmers had had that equipment that might still be with us - your cam solves the issues of capturing varied POV's whilst leaving you free to just concentrate on flying. I look forward to more videos!
Absolutely beautiful! Well done!
a well made video with stunning views!
Superb film, well done!
Thank you so much dude !! now i understand better the in-flight propeller mechanism, really appreciated.
Gorgeous! Would love to fly there! Thanks for putting all the effort into this video, well done!

Absolutely Superb!
Wow, a sub and a thanks för one of the best soaringfilms, one of my top 5
Absolutely thrilling!
What fantastic videos, Christopher! I have flown in the Alps from La Motte du Caire for a number of years but, for various reasons, have not been down since 2016. It is so wonderful to see such familiar mountains; your explanation of anabatic lift is fabulously simple and easy to understand and very similar to the one Christian gave me on my first visit. I’m really looking forward to returning very soon as soon as the madness of Covid and Brexit eases.
Merci!
Spectacular!
Fantastic !!!
Magnifique, d 'autant plus que j'ai fait en randonnée a pied toutes les montagnes et vallées survolées, du haut Verdon aux Ecrins.
Absolutel beautiful! Been to Fayence 3 times and flown around 'ecrins' and 'glacier blanc' with the Duo Discus as well!

FABULOUS VIDEO! Great imagery (!360 camera). Wonderful music! Just right length! Amazing scenery of course (we have similar in Eastern Sierra of CA.!). Heard your interview on @Soaring the Sky podcast. Will be checking your new videos for sure. And you say your new to editing? Natural talent I’d say!

Dear Chris I will avoid family names. Your videos are a pure moment of full relaxation. Bravo. While exhibiting my artwork in St Paul de Vence, I had the visit of a female Officer of he USAF whose husband, JW also flies a glider, quite a special one, a U2! I cannot spot a glider in the air without thinking of our common friend A who passed away in July. Since you fly higher than me, give him a stark hug for me next time you cross him. Warm cheers Philippe

Very nice, also the music. And I like the start sequence to Fayence very much. Maybe you start at the sea at Nice or at the famous Marseille harbour with Notre Dame church next time, then all viewers would have a well known starting point.

Great. I have been there , with an instructor .
Could you post your flight track once you upload a video? It would be a nice flight in Condor as well. As everyone else has said, your production is very professional. Subscribed and awaiting the next video.
Very nice. I would like to see the stats of the flight at the end. Lets say Time, distance, elevation gain, avg. speed. avg. climb and maybe quick map shot of the route. Again amazing video. Cheers.

Hello Christopher, your videos are captivating, amazing and heart stopping every so often when one notices the peaks you just went over! I just had a thought that I wanted to convey after seeing this episode: you showed at the very end, a very informative Google Earth map of the area you covered pointing out the peaks. Would it be too difficult of an effort to draw in a red line that shows the approximate course that you took? Not a big deal just a thought as it further impresses one to see what you covered in this way. Thanks a lot!

Insanely goof
What kind of camera mount are you using? The camera is staying level with the earth as you bank the sailplane. It also pans around to a front view while still staying level with the horizon. Very impressive flight and video.

Tout dépend des conditions météo, on peut compter entre une heure et demie et deux heures par bau temps...
How does one become a safe and competent mountain pilot is my recurring question, with land outs not an option and without depending on a potentially balky/slow deploying engine?
@FayenceSoaring
3 жыл бұрын
An excellent question. First, don't attempt soaring in the mountains without getting instruction. Second, know the land-out places in advance. In the mountains, this means that you know them intimately. I won't put my ASH 31 into a field unless I have walked it and chosen my landing path in advance. Finally, you stay within safe gliding range of those places without exception. That was the intended 'moral of the story' of my second video: Low in the Alps. Thanks for your comment!
Great flight, what sought of distance did you cover in the time. Nice to see the other gliders at the lower level.

It was a weak day, and it was also when we were limited to a 100km radius last spring due to French Covid-19 restrictions. But any day we can get out is great!

Kann man in Fayence am Flugplatz übernachten? Gibt es einen Linienbus nach Cannes?
Glad to know you have an engine for backup!!
@FayenceSoaring
2 жыл бұрын
The glider is self-launch capable, but it is still a glider. Once the engine is shut down it is never assumed to be available for the remainder of the flight. Using it as a backup is extremely dangerous as many self-launch pilots have learned in blood.

@@FayenceSoaring Just because it might not turn back on or is there a technical reason for not turning it back on once in the air?
@FayenceSoaring
2 жыл бұрын
@bar10dr Failing to start is just one thing that can go wrong with attempting an air start. Another example is that the propeller could jam in an intermediate position during extension. The last thing a pilot needs to be doing when flying low is fumbling with engine controls when they should be focusing on landing safely in a field.
