@@dianeclay7368 It was 1984. Great point!!! I like your point that cash was too small to be worth the risk! Gmablers don't always gamble for the jackpot, they enjoy the 3rd tier winnings, also. Of course, 20k in 1984 is likely about 100k in 2022, or so. You saying that you might not play the criminal lottery, gamble on something 3rd tier..? The song says it is the 'lure of easy money', not that it was a fortune. Also, this particular deal went horribly wrong, but the word business (along with weapons/cash phrase) indicates it was one deal of many deals. It is a risky lifestyle business where you can loot an average annual salary ever couple weeks; an illegal, morally wrong lifestyle, but nonetheless a 'lure of easy money'... The living got caught, the rest got dead. They took risks, gambled, lost. Our main character got caught and dead. Crime does not pay! Classic 1980s where the good guys always win in the end. Scared all of us straight, for sure!!! But minds still wandered; this was a peak into that 'drug world' most didn't understand in 1984 when Nancy Reagan told us to "..just say NO!" I watched the original showing on TV that Friday night that year. I was 16 or 17.

No music hit its peak 1966-1980 but yeah the 80s were pretty good. It has devolved considerably since. But what were the millennials supposed to do? Music is hugely important culturally speaking. How were they going to top the Beatles, the Stones, Aerosmith? The list goes on and on. Advancement had come to an end as perfection was reached. Same thing happened to classical. The only place for it to go was down. And as we are all painfully aware it went down hard. You'd think that diversification provided by the internet would bring it back and maybe it has but I'm too goddamn lazy to look it up.. Wow a whole 2 paragraph that say absolutely nothing....I blame society because I live in Oregon and we're required to ingest enormous quantities of pot here. Apologies for wasting your time, straining your eyes or otherwise inconveniencing you.

But minds still wandered; this was a peak into that 'drug world' most didn't understand in 1984 when Nancy Reagan told us to "..just say NO!" I remember the Miami Vice episode he was in (one of the best, of a very mixed bunch). He was great in it.
It has taken all this time to accept that I live in a world without Glenn. He is still all around me from the very first Eagles song I heard- Take It Easy.
The 1980s at it's popular Music's best.❤ G.F.'s Smuggler's Blues.
