@@jennifferj6726 you get paid minimum wage starting but you get a raise every year until you hit a last step. No most custodian jobs are 12 month.

Just had my second day yesterday (its after midnight). My first day was with my aunt's brother (my uncle) and he showed me the ropes. My second day, I was in for a surprise. My second day a second guy didn't show up, and the head custodian went home at 4:30, letting it roll downhill and didn't tell me how to lock up or code out. She also left the second absentee's share of the work to me, leaving me before my lunch on my actual own for the first time. I did every room. And every restroom, and had time to take the gator for a couple of spins to "check the gates and trash" and do some "security 'throttle' checks". Got written down for 8, but only did 5 and 1/2. Cheers 🍻

In the beginning the guy used his bare hands to touch the dirt, not even gloves 😲 And one thing I noticed that’s a no no, is the guy sprayed directly on the lights switches. My boss would’ve had a fit if he was me do that! Always spray your rag, THEN wipe the light switches. One thing to remember is, work up to down, not the other way, meaning, the guy in the bathroom started sweeping before cleaning the toilets and everything else, sweeping and mopping are the last thing to do just in case something falls or there’s dirt, because then, you’ll be sweeping twice or you’ll be mopping a floor with dirt all around it.

You always sweep the floor at the beginning so you're not mopping hair and toilet paper at the end. And not running your dust mop through the water that gets on the floor around the toilets.

Look up Premier Property Preservation. They have a contract with lausd and I was place at a elementary school as a custodian and now I work for LA county and get benefits and paid holidays!

@@nomadicheadspace1741 no I started as a regular custodian oringally a night custodian at my old School and got fed up with the bosses especially the assistant plant manager treating me like a dog till I left im now a day custodian and love it at the middle school way way better our school is the newest in the county!

Nothing negative but I’m surprised that they don’t use a ride on or walk behind automatic floor scrubber for the hallways, that is a perfect location for one of those

Probably because they may require special training and if a sub gets injured on the job, the district would not be liable since subs get no benefits in general

Great video do you get a choice on what school you get to go to and once you get to your school will you just work there or will they move you around? Is this available in part time or full time only? And what are the requirements to promote to a day time custodian? Sorry for all the questions 😬

Honestly it’s just a matter or working hard and getting your name on the map. Taking test and not afraid to interview when the time comes.

Do you have to change the mopheads when they're dirty? Because at Disneyland they put the dirty mopheades in a laundry linen bag 🎒 and they send it to the Disneyland laundry facility to be washed

I'm trying to do maintenance at a school hell even at a hospital but for some reason all the ones that are near me want six months to a year of experience and I only have four months of experience working a school as a student custodian back in 2016 to 2017 interview with that whole six months to a year of experience I think that's kind of a little stupid because they I didn't have any experience when I worked with my high school as a student custodian the next L train me on practically almost everything except the floor buffer for obvious reasons at the time I was seventeen years old and where I live you have to be at least 18 to handle equipment such as that but it's just so frustrating and the current job I have now it pays okay you know it pays my rent my car payment my phone bill what-have-you and I still have expenses on the side for fun stuff but I'm not working maintenance I'm pushing carts and helping people with their groceries and a couple of times doing a little bit of Maintenance but that's only when they're very desperate for maintenance workers for that day and I've been telling them hey I want to go to maintenance you know I want to switch my job code and they said oh don't worry we'll help you do that what I'm going to do is I'm going to change my job code myself and if they still say no I'm going to keep doing it and keep doing it until they have no choice either to move me to that position or fire me

All school systems are different. The one I work for is amazing. 12 months full time. I started at $32.60 an hour. Anything over 8 hours is time and a half double time on Sunday’s and time and a half pay on Saturday.

Where is this? I find it hard to believe you started at 32.60 at a UFSD or public school. You can make 32.60 starting if you negotiate a higher step but we all know starting rates for custodian and grounds is always in the 20-26$ an hour range

How many minutes do you spend in a classroom? You disinfect all student desks every day ? Some high schools students are provided and are responsible for wiping down there own desk. Great video 👍👍

I'm a woman custodian. Some districs ask for some experience, if you can start as a summer help, then you can aske for the position.

I know alot of people over the years in that field of work were the only way to get in if your aunt, uncle, father inlaw, mother inlaw, brother inlaw, sister inlaw, wife, etc etc has connections and pull some strings you're getting in. Or kiss ass. Don't get me wrong I'm sure many have gotten in the legit way but probably struggled for some time until they got in.

I just wonder when I'm done with my background check when can I start work at the school?

Completely agree. I've been a University custodian for almost 22 years. The repetition of the work takes its toll on your body. Mopping is terrible for your back and posture.

I was a bus driver for SPUSD, I'm in transition to custodian, I start in a couple of days. I couldn't take the stress of bus driving, the route I got stuck with the kids are known as the most shall we say challenging, I'm looking for a less stressful position I can grind out 10 years in to get my PEERS pension and this seems like it.

Disinfectant also needs to sit its proper contact time. Most disinfectant are around 10 minutes
