Just rewatched this movie again. It truly is an underrated masterpiece. I know people give it high praise, but I think everyone should see this movie. A beautiful moment can happen in life even if its only once.

I got to see Mr Hansard, once. In a small, magical old theater. It really was the perfect setting. And although it was a small crowd, he still POURED HIS HEART into every song, just like in the movie. It was a special night, one I'll never forget. Go see him, buy his music.

I have seen videos of them in bookstores. The size of the venue is irrelevant to them because the amount of heart they put into their music and writing was just incredible and honestly can only be fully appreciated up close and personal.

Incidentally (if you don't already know, that is), he was close friends with Jeff Buckley back in their Greenwich Village busking and coffee shop-playing days before either of them got discovered.

Correction: Glen was on a promotional tour in the U.S. for the movie The Commitments (in which he appeared) when he met Buckley -- who was working as an instrument tech at the time. The pair became fast friends while on this promotional tour together and eventually found their way to Greenwich Village at the now-defunct Irish pub, Sine... (listen to this interview of Glen for the rest -- includes a song dedicated to Jeff at the end): kzread.info/dash/bejne/gIKmw7uinqyakqQ.html&feature=shares

Glen Hansard is a great musician and a super cool human. Hearing him say that he isn't an actor when he was wonderful in Once and The Commitments is the epitome of a humble person. It makes me feel good to know there are people like him in this world. Peace.

The movie is on my top10 (if not my top5) and that's that. But, what I really love about this guy, is that he is such a sweet human. The way he speaks about Marketa, and from other videos I've seen, how he cherishes her, how he talks about his music, about his carreer, so humble. And don't forget he won an Oscar....

To each their own. As I think it's one of the best films I've ever seen. My sister and I were truly captivated. As for the handheld comment. As I heard it after they lost Killien (sp) they lost their funding too. Determined to still do the movie with 1/10th of the funds they had they shot it on 2 Sony HandyCams in the streets of Dublin.

That wasn't the way the movie was intended to be shot. But they lost their funding after Cillian dropped out. After scrounging up what funds they could the movie was shot with a couple of Sony HandyCams, I believe. Maybe you missed that detail. Either way it may not have been your cup of tea. But Glen connected with so many of us despite the filming.

What an amazing story. And yes, that scene in the music store when they first play "Falling Slowly" is the closest a non-musician will get to experiencing that feeling you get when you first discover and create a real song (as opposed to cool riffs of fills - which is also pretty cool :)
