I remember this from when it was first shown. Can't understand why this fabulous song was never released as a single.

I was 9 years old when this documentary first aired. For sone reason, this song popped into my head tonight after all these years. I found this video by typing some of the words into Google. I didn’t remember much about the documentary, except this song and that it was about wild geese. Thanks for posting.

It's a beautiful song, unfortunately never released on record by Glen. Believe the full documentary video is available to watch somewhere online, repackaged for British TV, Glen's vocals aren't heard on that version however.

For an old woman of 63 who's memory is going, I'm amazed how well I remembered this song. Most of the lyrics came back to me before I played it. What prompted me to do so was that in sorting through old papers I found a letter dated 28th February 1973 [when I was 15] from Anglia Television, in response to my enquiry as to whether it would be released as a single. They said, " Thank you for your letter regarding our "Survival" film 'The Flight of the Snow Goose'. Unfortunately, Glen Campbell's song "Fly High, Fly Free" is not available at present, but it may be decided in due course to put this song on record and then we will let you have all the necessary details. It was kind of you to take the trouble to write, we appreciate the interest you have shown." Needless to say, I never heard from them again.

Helen - I am 54 and could also remember it from the initial screening with the lyrics and melody very clear. For some reason I had always thought it was a BBC screening of Wonderful World of Disney! I heard a Goose today and thought I must look it up and boy I was so close tothe lyrics!

Peter Scott narrated 'Survival: The Flight of the Snow Goose'...an Anglia film. Andrew Sachs regretably overdubbed the original narration.

Glen Campbell didn't narrate the program, and the song was written by Farlan Myers and Ken Thoren.

Bern, while you are correct about the songwriters (we will correct the info), Glen did indeed narrate the show. “The Incredible Flight of the Snow Geese” (narrated by Glen Campbell and sponsored by the American Gas Association) was shown on American television January 23, 1973 on NBC.

Look at the clip you posted - at 1min 24s, it clearly states: "Narrated By Andrew Sachs" - but I see from Google that there were three versions produced! Narrated by Glen, Peter Scott and Andrew Sachs ("Manuel" from Fawlty Towers). So we're both right!

@@TheBernmeister9 This video clip was a repackaged version for European broadcast, Glen did indeed narrate the original broadcast version of this show in the USA in the early 1970's.
