@82Goors Here's some GC Trivia - He actually also wrote songs - at the early stage of his career he was a professional salaried songwriter in LA. Most were accredited to others and many he gave away gratis when he could finally afford to once he became a session player with the Wrecking Crew. There were a number hits among them for others, but hard to find which were Glen's due to so much 'ghostwriting' at the time. Amazing talent; equally humble guy.

It'd be hard to imagine that he wasn't a gifted writer given his understanding of music, but perhaps even amongst the his more appreciative fans he's always been recognized as a fine interpreter of others' music and it becomes known as "his". Ray Charles is another musical genius who comes to mind. It's a shame that for years the general public wasn't aware of his amazing talent, humor and good nature. When i was a kid growing up in the 70s i was into rock and roll like most kids were back then. In those days there was something real going on in our American culture called the generation gap. There was a kind of war going on between the old and young generations. Most older people did not like the young long haired hippie freaks. Along with that division was the music, older folks liked country and or singers like Frank Sinatra and they hated rock and roll. So i was a kid who would never had admitted to liking older folks music, HOWEVER without even a 2nd thought I would be right in front of the TV glued to it to watch The Glen Cambell good time hour every single week it was ever on. I will always love him and his music, he was truly a gift from god to us all.

While watching this performance I realized what a key role performers like Glen played in holding America together as a nation. His music reached people up and down the social pyramid and across the racial divide and made us appreciate what was unique about America. In many ways Glen embodied the promise of our nation now so sadly unfulfilled. There were other artists I would put in the same category, for example, Sam Cooke and Gene Clark. I'm in my 70's now and very glad my life overlapped with these artists. It makes me feel very humble and grateful.
