Glastonbury has to be the friendlist place I've ever been to. Lots of people dancing and the air smells of spices. One guy walking up the hill banging his drum. Nobody seems to mind what others think of them.

In Italy we have a similar site. It's in Tuscany, near Chiusdino, in Siena's countryside: there are the ruins of a gothic abbey, San Galgano, and nearby there's a little round chapel on the top of a steep hill; in the chapel's floor a sword is stuck in a stone. It's not King Arthur's sword though: according to legend, Galgano (a name a LOT similar to Gawain) Guidotti, a nobleman born in Chiusdino, led a dissolute life until he began having visions of Saint Michel and he converted, retired on the steep hill in a little shack and planted his sword in the ground like a cross. He died little after (1180) and the legend of the Sword in the Stone spreaded. It's worth noting that Chretien de Troyes wrote his "Le conte du Graal" in 1190 and that the life of Perceval sound a bit like a romanticised version of Galgano's one. There are some who believe that somewhere under the chapel is hidden the Holy Grail...

@@medeaendor3706 England is in Europe. It may not be connected to continental Europe, but it is in Europe. If you're going to say England is not in Europe, you may as well say Iceland isn't in Europe either because it's land mass isn't physically connected to the European continent.

Love Glastonbury, used to go every year to attend the Glastonbury Symposium which usually took place in the Town Hall. It was there that I met Dolores Cannon with her daughter. Ian Crane also was a regular speaker. Unfortunately it is a difficult place to get to by public transport, so overnight stays can make it a costly experience. Nevertheless, it is a place everyone should have on their “bucket list”....

In 1964 I moved from Liverpool to live in the next village ,Street. I worked in Glastonbury for about 18 months. A really lovely place .Then the Beatniks started to invade the place !The town was never the same !To this day many of the people who have lived there all their lives have nothing nice to say about "That event" back in 1964.

England's first church was St Martins in Canterbury. Missionaries, led by Augustine (later Saint) , set out from Canterbury to spread Christianity to the Angles, (not Angels 😇). There is insufficient evidence to state that Joseph of Arimathea started christianity in England at Glastonbury. Some say this account is largely myth & legend. Whereas there is evidence for St Martins.
