This is something EVERY PERSON SHOYLD KNOW HOW TO DO IF YOU OWN A TEXAS STAR AMPLIFIER!
When should you check your bias voltage?
NEVER PUT RF In A Texas Star before you check the bias if...
1.) The amplifier had been sitting for many years & you don't remember if it worked or not.
2.) If you just got done with an extensive repair!
3.) If you just acquired the amplifier via purchase, trade or gift & your questionable about it even working or not.
4. If you just got done replacing transistors.
A Texas Star Bias Circuit To Bias The BJT Devices Used, Is A Simple Restive Voltage Divider Circuit Consisting Of A 25 Ohm 5w Resistor, 1.8 Ohm 1/4w Resistor To GND & The Two 10 Ohm Resistors From The Base Of The BJT Devices To Ground.
You should read about 1.5 Ohms. Depending on your volt meter or percentage of tolerance it could vary maybe 1.3 to 1.7 maybe.
The voltage should read 0.6v (ex. 0.62 to 0.68) If the voltage is higher then this, then either your to high on your DC Voltage or the circuit is damaged.
If your to low then your Dc voltage may be way to low or the circuit has been altered.
It is safer to run at a lower bias voltage then higher but a lowe bias voltage will me less linearity for ssb use.

very good. must be close to same for each 2 pill section. a simple test will keep you from blowing transistors. now a diode bias different . I take choke off base lead or input transformer. this removing bias from transistor. then key relay with no rf and test voltage . must do this on all sections at the same time. this mad read a tad high because 10 ohm out of circuit. the outher test on any bias amp is key relay no rf. measure current draw of amp. should be a amp or 2 depending on number of pills. if in range leave keyed a wile . check each transistor for temperature. want even heating. a low HFE transistor shows up running cool a leaky one shoes up hotter than rest with same bias. all this with no RF. also dummy load in both so239 . incase a oscitation happens . will draw many amps. when happens. 73's

Thanks for the video! I have a DX350HDV I get 1.60 ohms resistance from back of transformer to ground and only .57 Volts bias voltage. I have the 1.6 ohm R8 resistor No output

You have have a blown transistor.... I hope not but it is possible. 0.56v is a tad bit low bu5 it maybe cause you are running on low voltage.

Ok thx! I’ll test them. I was concerned about getting the same ohms of 1.6 reading as the R8 resistor when taking reading from base to ground. Thanks for all your videos!!
