Giya Kancheli - Selected Miniatures For Piano
Музыка
Selected miniatures (17) from “Simple Music for Piano” book by Giya Kancheli.
Giya Kancheli (Georgian: გია ყანჩელი; born 10 August 1935 in Tbilisi, Transcaucasian SFSR, Soviet Union) is one of the more distinctive voices in international contemporary music. His compositions have been praised by audiences from Soviet Moscow to London's Royal Albert Hall, and are frequently first heard in his native city of Tbilisi, Georgia. Alongside his special commissions from orchestras like the New York Philharmonic, he has also written musical scores for many indigenous film and stage productions.
From the author:
"While dedicating myself to symphonic and chamber music, I simultaneously wrote music for the stage and screen. No wonder, then, that certain themes originally intended for plays and films made their way into my larger works or that the large forms themselves sometimes contained episodes reminiscent of incidental music. I myself can’t always remember where a particular them first appeared, not least because the vast majority of more than a hundred of the films and plays for which I wrote music have now passed into history.
So I have decided to revive some lost fragments in this collection. Time will tell if they can survive outside their original context."

Rest In Peace Maestro ❤

One of the greatest composers of our time
Words cannot describe what I feel towards Mr. Kancheli and his music. These compositions remind me of my childhood. Especially, "She's here" (1:42 - 3:11), which was used in my favorite Georgian movie as a child "The Eccentrics", "Interlude" (15:02 - 16:10), and "Yellow Leaves" (5:52 - 8:30)my all-time favorite compositions that melt my heart whenever I listen to them. Thank you for this video🙏🙏🙏

Giya Kancheli is from my country, from Georgia. When i listen his music, it reminds me my childhood which was very beautiful, happy and the best time in my life. Giya is a humble person, dedicated to music. He always says that, his music is the result of hard working.

Я часто слушаю эти миниатюры. Особенно летом, на улице, возле дома на участке. Свечи,тишина, одиночество (семья спит) - ну кайф же)
До дрожи в теле пронзительно!

It is from you that I first heard the profound Etude number 2 by Philip Glass, and then again you were the first place I heard Yann Tiersen's score for "Goodbye, Lenin!" Again with Pavel Karmonov and Dustin O'Hollaran. Now again I get to say I first heard of the ingenious Kancheli through Coversart! Thank you for your generous offerings.
I'm proud that he was Georgian (country). Rest in peace, maestro !

Thank you! Unfortunately, not yet. Although this recording was made in 24/96, I am not entirely satisfied with the performance. But I have already re-recorded all these pieces - just need now to find some time to listen, and who knows - maybe there will be a proper release. But these are not quite immediate plans I must say.

I really enjoy reading the history you put into the description, it's great to read while you're listening. I really enjoy "As you like it" but so far they've all been beautiful little pieces and are only made better with the beautiful sound of the piano and of course your playing to make them sound as good as they can. Do you buy all these books or do you have a library that has sheet music? also if you're looking for any recommendations I think it'd be nice to watch you perform "Phrygian Gates, Part 1" as I'm a huge fan of John Adams, I was considering learning it myself but I don't know if I'd have the will power to do a piece like that for that long haha. Or there's a pianist I came across on KZread who has made a solo piano transcription of the entire The Planets symphony, it's quite astounding, I've only learnt Venus as that's my favourite movement but all of them are quite great. Here's a link if you are interested kzread.info/dash/bejne/lH6AyNdmlMe5e6g.html Thanks Gabe

Sometimes buying, sometimes taking from the library (as it happened with Kancheli) Mr. Adams is in my list, no doubt:) As for for The Planets by Gustav Holst, shame on me, I didn't know those pieces, thanks a lot!

You can buy digitally from Sheet Music Plus, or printed versions from Rusliana or ECM.
I personally think that Gia Kancheli was as monumental a figure as Mozart or Beethoven.
