I am not being critical to any renunciation of the world, in any religion in search of God. But my personal opinion is it is very easy to stay in a monastery, with like minded people like you, doing the same things over & over again, a daily set routine, where all are humble & without any materialistic inclination, all are just like you, no one is jealous or provoking you to anger, or misbehaving. Initially its difficult but in due course it gets easier, with time they adjust. Buddhist monks, sadhus, nuns & many such people leave their life to be with God. Difficult is staying pure in this world where your surrounded with daily temptations of greed, lust, gluttony, luxury, jealousy, anger, & you manage to control it & stay pure. Thats the challenge.

Living in a monastery is not as easy as it is said here in this comment. It's easy to fight with outside world.. it not easy to confront the inside world.. confronting and accepts the inner reality is much difficult. Spirituality is an individual journey.. we cannot generalize every seekers journey.. its a unique path and for every seeker the journey is different. For some people earning money is more easy than meditating. For some it's other way round. It depends on the baggage that the person is made of... There's no such thing as pure and impure...there's only one thing and that is called "The Truth".. when we have not realized what it is then better not say that it is easy..

Being is a monstery is just you vs you.. being the world is you vs you vs the world. How is it easy to fight with outside world, where you have to get by soo many personalities & indivudalistic traits of the people you meet in daily life, & still be in sainthood kind of state, dealing with people who are not abiding by a norm or rule set laid by some religious sect. Being in the society you have to take care of your mental health, & deal with the joys & sorrows of this life, birth, death, sickness, pain, gains, losses, & all emotions of staying in a society. Seclusion has to deal with only self. Meditation for 10days or life long can master the inner self eventually cause there is no provocation watsoever. What traits a person imbibes in renunciation, humility, tolerance, love, peace, joy self-lesness let that good part come when your provoked by society, then we will all have it made.

1st point take care of your parents 2 nd help poor people 3 becoming monk is not important Helping others is important they can do it in normal life also

If you think on a deeper level.....helpimg someone as per your understanding is not necessarily helping concerned person .for example - you save someone from accident but next day onwards he suffers from a horrible disease and dies painfully. So you think you have helper him but reality is different. So monks generally thi k this way I suppose

Definition of "Responsibility" differs from person to person. For you, responsibility must be to become financially literate, for Jain Samudaya, the responsibility they bind themselves towards society and the wellbeing of society. They're not enforcing their moralities /responsibility on you, and they also expect the same from you.

But we will settle away to America or other places to find our needs. Not countries needs. In epidemics and floods these monks provide so much. Please mention that. Every Person, who wants to take Jain diksha, has to take permission from parennts and elders. And, if they permit, then only diksha is given. So there is no point of talking about pain. And those tears are just instantenous and temporary.

Parents are considered above gods in Jainism. As said earlier, parents' permission is must for jain diksha. No parents unwillingly give permission.

You have likely never known a Jain monk so saying this is a waste of life is a very baseless, senseless and foolish thing to say. I personally know tens of Jain monks (and have been in contact with probably hundreds of them) and have found that they make the most out of their life like no one else. You can't make microorganisms a higher self by killing them, neither has the universe given anyone the right, responsibility or power to do that. So, no, anyone believing in reincarnation shouldn't believe that they can make microorganisms a higher self by killing them.

I have closely lived with one such family and it's hypocrisy at its peak! This might offend the community but there is no one as double faced as them. Spent a crore rupee in the ceremony of turning into a monk, and then using a common phone within a group of 3 still post turning into a monk. She used to use it and still interfere in the family matters. All Jain Marwaris must not be so but the one I came across were bad people, impacting my life too to an extent.

This form of renunciation is a common practice in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Although in Hindu beliefs, Dharma, Artha and Kama form the stepping stones to Moksha. The stage of giving everything up (Sanyasa) is only preferred by a very few people because the scriptures provide Karma and Bhakti as alternate pathways for eternal salvation.

Buddha had tried Jain method to reach enlightenment but he debated with Jain monks that their methods were too extreme. So he created and followed his own method the Eightfold Path aka "the Middle Way". Avoid harming living beings but do not become to extreme either side. Follow the middle Path

What the Buddha called the "middle way". The parable used to illustrate the point was of a musician telling his students how to tune their string instruments, too tight and the strings may snap and too loose and you will not be able to make music. Even with the difference between Jainism and Buddhism there does seem to be a lot in common between the 2 religions.

Weirdest thing to do, never thought this still exists. Leaving education, dreams, family to be a monk. Even without being a monk one can stay without hurting living things. Anyway it's their call 🙏

Dreams education family do you think don't they hurt. Even your mother father many times make you cry . Your dream if not fulfilled make you cry. You can't be happy with all this around these things increase your desires and desires always hurt , pain . You can't stay in peace with all these things around . NEVER. So to be happy limit things to only which are necessary for survival like eat foos bot do not feast. My neighbour took diksha too. Its quite disheartening for the family but they have to look happy from outside. I had seen her grow and after she went, it was so difficult to even take off the pictures they had used for the decorations while sending her off

They say they don't want to kill any living being but they have masses of dead flowers for the Deeksha decorations.

It always happen at a retreat when you are a kid. At least, this girl is an adult when she finally decided to do this. There are many kids who are pushed into doing it. That is wrong. Why would one want to do it? Whatever reason is claimed, it is really hard to not also take into consideration the really high status that it grants the person and their family. Another reason cannot be ignored is to gain virtue in the savings bank of karma. And no, they don't have to do it forever. They can revert to normal life again.

The pain of separation from your love one,,,,,, OMG cannot even imagine.

This is extremely concerning to say the least. I can't even imagine putting little 12 year old children through it. I did not write the above comment from a place of religious intolerance and bigotry rather I am concerned about protecting the rights of such young children. I dont think it's right to put children through this. But when this practice began, they were considered as young adults not children. But today with a lifespan of 80 years, one must do better.

I am not disrespectful to the religion, but truely unfair to the youngsters. Imagine if whole world turn in to Jainism and become monks, who will do work and produce food ? Can some answer this! Look at the parents, I flooded with tears and felt the religions does emotional blackmail. If the community think about harmless living, better leave money lending businesses. I grew up with the same community around, majority of them doing money lending business and sucking blood of poor and vulnerable. .........It is enough, please stop these practices. 100 trillion microbesare in human body, what we can avoid taking in is nothing, please breath normally. Sanatana dharma say " Tatvamasi (god is with in you)" practise that. Don't think too extreme. I am sorry if anyone offended, but I mean it.

Yeah but it doesnt come with free meals... It means everyday for the rest of ur life you are eating boiled vegetables and rice which you beg for... Sleep on the floor without ac, fan etc... Relinquishing all relationships, human touch, sex...it is very very tough.. And as the video talked about most of them revoke their vows.. I mean i cn appreciate the ideals in moderation though..

Being a nomad sounds great, for about a week. The extreme of refusing to kill even that which is bad for you would only cause the proliferation and spread of deadly diseases, the consequences of this are very serious. However, this is a works/righteousness system, bootstrap theology.

Hello many people who are single live like this especially of previous generations, it's only Modern kids who are like this materialistic, there's no need of becoming a monk. Many people live off the grid , secluded and live a minimal life and yes without gadgets and sex, in nature. This monk thing is for the weak! I've seen it in Christianity Buddhists and Hindus .

Not using electricity and then filming everything to post it on youtube, irony.

Jainism is a very interesting religion. It is extreme in some ways but respectable in most. Even Lord Buddha practiced it for some years before going for the middle way. All the best to these young people who are willing to give up everything for a spiritual clean life.

Supian even our tirthankars does not preach extremism .It all depends upon your inner will power and power of your body.It has been said in jain granthas that Tirthankars have a very powerful body and born with special body traits not found in normal human beings. so for e.g if Lord Mahavira the last Tirthankara of Jainism for example can stay without food for few months it is normal as per his capacity and power but it's extreme for us.Tirthankars always said that do penance as per your body capacity.Unnecesaarily torcuring your body is Violence with yourself.

What i think about this is that children should not be put into this untill they understand what they are doing. Let them grow first and then take this decision.

@Abol Tabol yes... Hinduism is not a religion by any definition. It's just that religions like Islam, Christianity came to india and Britishers called everyone else as Hindus. There is no commonality within Hindus, not everyone believes same gods ,not same traditions, doesn't see everyone within Hindus as equal,No definite rules to be followed based on any book.

One of my classmates got married 3 years ago and after 2 years she decided to live like this. She is gonna stay in marrige but will reject her husband just coz she is becoming a monk like this girl. It's so unfair to her husband. If she wanted to be a monk she should've told the guy before getting married. Her parents shouldn't have forced her into marriage. 💔💔

For all those geniuses who have commented that they're running away from responsibilities: it takes immense courage and will power to lead a life like that. Monkhood is a privilege that is accessible only by a select few (due to their merit / karma in their previous births according to Hindus, I believe it's the same for Jains). However decisions like these must be well thought out (atleast people featured here have thought about it). I've read about a Jain couple with a 1 year baby wanting to take Diksha and were instantly called out (and rightly so) which led to only the husband taking Diksha, while the wife decided to stay back and take Diksha after the child turns 18.

Who provide them free food? Where do they get free shelter?( No worry of paying rent) What about illness and hospitalisation cost? Nursing cost if they got sick and completely bedridden? ( Who pays insurance for them?) Where they brush, toilet, bath?( All free? Who pays for them) Who buy them sanitary napkins during period? ( Who pays) They're getting all for free. No pressure of studying to get a job then paying rent, taking care of parents.

@@Payelcrispercas9 just for your information, jain monk do not stay at one place for whole life, they don’t have ashram, they keep moving from one place to other, one state to other walking. As for food, jain families do provide food, but they don’t eat at your home, they go house to house with their set of few bowls, if they get less food they divide between all equally, if no food they fast. No they don’t get food served to them on plate everyday, they too have to work for it. For brush toilet bath, they don’t use them, no electricity too. They don’t use any worldly things. Sanitary pads they don’t use that, they use clothes ( not rags). Also they only use cotton white clothes to wear and every sadhu have only 2-3 pairs of clothes, nothing which needs money they don’t own anything. Please if you don’t know about Jainism, don’t go mudslinging. It’s even harder to go without all the conveniences in this day and age. No pressure studying? Then let me tell you there are many sadhu sadhvi doing PHD after Diksha, and for the purpose of doing pratikaman, vyakhyan you need to study religious books and scriptures everyday. They still have to study. And they study hard.

But not taking care of parents, not taking them to doctor, not taking responsibility does not make anyone great. It's kind of escapism that is glorified. Don’t tell me all who don’t take Diksha always take care of their parents and never run away from responsibility! Not taking responsibility? How? When you become jain sadhu you have many responsibilities attached to that title. Jain sadhu follow very strict diet and they can not find food even in jain home at times. Let me just explain about free food, when you as a person do not mind eating whatever you get like a beggar, from some house they will get 1 roti one house 2 spoonful of one sabji and from other 3 spoonful of other sabji all kept in a bowl mixed by the end of their daily food foraging journey of couple hours twice a day, you eat that. Even beggars sometimes have better free food. Completely missing point here that is food is requirement of human body, what they are doing is for soul. Ohh and case of no worries about getting a job, you worry about not even touching normal water, not putting a foot in puddle and thinking and trying to not hurt even microscopic organisms at best of your capabilities, you have more to worry about than common man like us. Ohh and why do you have to worry about job? Because you need money to get all they worldly things you need, like phone or car may be. Or home to call it your own. They travel one place to other with many days sleeping on floor, in makeshift tent, even when they stay at temple they sleep on floor, no personal room for anyone, just one hall for 30-40 people. Free education? They provide free education too. It’s called vyakhyan, they teach jain scripture, they preserve jain granthas ( how do you think Jains being so minority survived as a religion without loosing their roots for this long! ) nothing is free in this world and they certainly don’t own anything which needs money, so getting your favorite sabji, your favorite fruit or for that matter anything is completely out. If you still feel they are mooching off free stuff and living life of luxury then I would suggest please get more knowledge before accusing a religious minority. We already have been laughed about being ahimsa followers, but now if you become vegan you are hip. We have been laughed about eating only between sunrise and sunset, but now you do it it’s intermittent fasting, we have been laughed about drinking boiled water but now you do it you are hygienic. So well as jain I would assume give benefit of doubt to other community too.

...one of my partners is Jain. I am in Chicago...I am a vegetarian because of his spirit and, most importantly, being shown wonderful cooking techniques. I do not look for perfection, but to all in that community...your presence in Chicago is not unappreciated...a little voice from here

What's happiness & sadness? By doing such material pleasures that are temporary & vary as per individual it's not real happiness of soul. Seems you don't know that basic of Hindu Dharma is soul attaining moksha where it's real goal

Wow...it is a big step. But look around...how many people are really happy and fulfilled today even though they may have everything in a material way. Perhaps this is a sign of our times. We have satiated ourselves to the point of finally realizing the material will never satisfy. Nothing wrong with material, but it has become our God and thus the world is now a total mess. Time to balance that out. Much respect for these kids.

I find this very disturbing !!!!! One just need to have a pure heart ..and focus on doing good karmas .....there's absolutely no need to live a life like this to follow spirituality .......they r just wasting their life ...and wat is the benefit ??? Nothing.

And then you move on to different levels, many people thought am crack but this is written in Garuda Purana too, we choose our parents country race and things we want to be in, it's all us then when born all that we chose is erased so that we live our lives .

the sacrifice is definitely worth it, i hope her soul is doing well on the way to enlightenment. if i didn't have a child, i would do the same, i totally understand what the young boys were saying about our lives. it's good preparation for our deaths and passing. have you ever heard of groundhog day? that is what life feels like..so something has to change when the soul feels and realises this. I commends all Jains and praise them every morning during Navkar.

Why do u think as if it's a bad thing even In other religion like Buddhism it's normal to see kids becoming monks they are there to learn spirituality I'm not sure maybe they allow them to do their further education if their parents are also ok with it who are we to judge

@@sushmajain7228 To begin with, madam I have no problem with Diksha but the statement made by kids ...Life is beautiful.... the perception of kids about life is wrong and they should be guided correctly and should give a chance to educate .... their parenting is wrong and furthermore, im the citizen of this country I have right to speak up on such practice... I have the freedom to speak ... it's not ur personal matter that I'm giving my view on...

bimmjim there’s no way for people to convert to Hinduism or Jainism. U can adopt the methods and follow the principles etc. but no official way of ‘converting’ per say. That only exists in Abrahamic religions. These are all man made things. Hindus didn’t care to expand their numbers and bring people on their side or any such thing. So that part was never created.

Being a jain myself and have my cousins taken Dikshas…it’s brings tears and joy, it’s a feeling no other person can feel other then oneself.

Jainism followers are actually one of most peaceful people on earth. Jainism is one of the beautiful part of Sanatan Dharm branches. Other 'Panths' include Sikhism, Buddhism and the 'regular' (Hinduism) Sanatan Dharma

Sikhism is never part of Hinduism or sanatna sharma... Sikhism is anti-Hinduism/sanatana. Against Ritualism, casteism, class, creed, superstitions and in case here against renouncing World/family/marital bliss.

Practicing Jainism the way it was meant to be, is not for the faint of heart.

If becoming a monk is a good thing then it should be prescribed for everyone. Imagine if the whole world is full of monks...

I guess being monk is better than blowing up yourself

To me, becoming a monk is like waiting for death and God to take one away from this world. We are all born here with a purpose, to make life worth it. There will be unhappiness and suffering. Those are tests of survival. Becoming a monk is an escape from that reality and meaning of life. I think after death, if ever God asks me, what I have done in life, answering "finding salvation, meaning of life" would be most stupid answer, because without suffering material life, you will never find enlightenment. People meditate for years to find answers but the answer is only with him, and one's ego never accepts it. Too early for them to become monks without seeing life thus.

I am Jain and I have many things to say about inclinations in the video, and comments here, being monk is not only in Jain culture also in Hindu culture, abstaining from touching other gender is followed by yogis too, and they start becoming monk from young age too. Jain diksha Is a practice followed from more than 2 thousand years, notable diksha being chandra Gupta morya. Nevertheless it’s not forced in Jainism to take diksha only in early age, when someone does decide there are many members in family who will question and counter also sadhu do not give diksha to anyone who wants to join on whim, there is a process in place. Many times they keep young kids who really want to take diksha follow them for few years and learn before actually giving them diksha. Being minority especially one who abstain from mudslinging and hurting other people ( ahimsa is main principal of Jainism) people have so many times passed derogatory comments about everything. For those of you being very concerned about kids feet and boil, I have done that and believe it or not in few months your skin becomes rough enough to walk on road without shoes ( people might have forgotten but our bodies have been made to walk barefoot from million years. ) in the end would like to say please refrain from passing judgement unless you know the community really well.

True sadly as a Hindu I feel many Hindus have forgotten that goal of life is moksha where our real identity is soul. Sorry for such remarks from Hindus, sadly we Hindus have succumbed to immorality & worldly pleasures. Many Hindus saying she should join charity etc don't know that Jains do a lot of charity & also involving in others happiness & sadness again drags you to material world..Both Hinduism & Jainism has daily charity as must.

it takes an extremely heightened level of awareness of what life truly is to take the bold step of renunciation and becoming a monk. they are improving themselves first by virtue of which they improve the world.

It’s called social sucide, we know Jain’s are the most peaceful sect in the world. But renouncing family and all is bit extreme, we are not living in Stone Age anymore.. society need productive people inorder to survive. Anyway wish you all the best, peace ✌️

It would be easier to wear a face mask than holding a cloth to the mouth. This video shows how regardless of religion the same emotions, concerns, preparations, renouncements hopes, fears are present for those leaving their old life for the life of a monk

This is the beauty of dharmic religions.....Vairagya from the worldly pleasures to attain moksha....

I really believe that all this should happen once you have lived your life I don't know I just feel everybody is brain washed into this

Whether we like it not..one day all of us will have to renounce everything in this world...this birth is an opportunity given to us to do good to everyone in this world and renounce evil of every kind...

I understand this is ones own choice so we can't judge but certainly God won't want people to get away from families, abandoning them.. or discriminating between gender, changing our names and identities!! We were sent here into families for a reason. To love, live and spend lifetimes trying to find God within ourselves and within the chaos in this world. That's the real Moksha we need to seek. Getting away from everything and living this way in isolation is great to turn into a monk but I think living life the way we have and making the best out of it is the biggest challenge as well as the biggest reward. Also, it's just my own opinion.

Would have loved to hear from the ones who revoked their vows. To understand what made them come back. Also, no issues with sane adults taking deeksha at their own will. But children!!! That should be banned.

Each to its own..no one thing is right..what is right for you may be wrong for others..so do what you feel called towards, what your heart tell you..don’t follow anyone blindly..follow your inner calling..
