Hey Booktube, this reading vlog of one week one shelf is all about shelf 30 aka Stephen King books! I have pretty much giving up on him after this video ( • Stephen King's Books I... ) but the jar decided that this week was time for another chance!

I love that you do this. I'm too much of a mood reader to be able to do this but it's always interesting to hear your thoughts and see your disappointment when you get a shelf like this one. 🤣

Doing it once in a while is fun but I could not do this challenge or the "read it or unhaul it" all year... I'd be in the worst reading slump lol
If you decide to read Dolores Claiborne, you definitely should do it via audiobook. The story is a first-person narration, and the audiobook narrator is phenomenal for it.

Snow globe Emily! I’ve missed her 😂
The nice thing about King is he is such a prolific writer that there really is something for everyone. His short story compilations can be a good place to stay if his large books look overwhelming.
Stephen King is definitely a hit or miss author, and I always know when I'm not going to like one of his books. Still, he is one of my favorite authors. Rose Madder, Lisey's story and Duma Key are few of my favorites by him. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. And well... I think it's time to accept that the cat has adopted you. :)

I share the same point of view as you about Duma Key, it's also one of my favorite book by Stephen King

I’ve had Duma Key sitting on my “wow I really need to read these books” shelf for a couple years and I think these comments are finally convincing me.
Aw no! The drawing of the three is so good! It’s something I have never read before! You should keep going! Roland is the Gunslinger, Jake is someone he met and cared a lot, the book will explain
I read War and Peace for a self-guided literature class one year. Wegot to pick books and the teacher gave them each an assigned point value. (I figured if I was going to read war and peace I should get credit for it!) I actually really liked it but it was hard to keep track of all the characters so I made a character list and it helped a lot!
Pet Sematary and The Long Walk are two of my favourite Stephen King novels. If you want one that isn’t too long, Misery is only 300 pages. Maybe you’d enjoy some of his short story collections. Night Shift has some great stories; ‘The Last Rung on the Ladder’ is one of my favourite things he’s ever written.
i love the cat updates 🥰🥰
You should try "Misery" or "11/22/63" if you haven't yet. I really liked these! I've the feeling it's a hit or miss with Stephen King. I either love or hate his books. Couldn't find a pattern yet though
In my opinion Misery, Mr. Mercedes, 11/22/63 are the books by King. I think you should check it out them ☺️
Dolores Claiborne is great! I'd say it's one of my favourite King books and I'm kind of thinking about re-reading it now that I saw it in your video. Anyway, I'd recommend that one from the shorter ones for sure.

I really enjoyed Dolores Claiborne definitely a favorite of kings books
I been trying to go through my book collection and I'm reading the first chapter if I'm into it, it goes into my TBR. If it doesn't peak my interest at the time it stays on the shelf for the time being. It's making it easier to read.
The thing about Stephen King is that his writing style, focus and execution changes over the decades. I see that you mainly own more early King, when he was angry, high on drugs and alcohol, and his writing reflects this. The more mature 2000s King writes some gorgeous novels, I would recommend 11/22/63 and Joyland- a beautiful coming of age/mystery thriller/horror novel. I love Stephen King and I think that because he has such a large body of work, that there is something there for everyone.
Your read it or unhaul it or one week one shelf are my favorite videos on youtube ❤
It's nice you got one that you kind of liked. I've never actually read Stephen King. Well I did start Under the Dome. I was liking it, but I had to put it down since the book wasn't mine.
I'm reading my first sci-fi (to be taught if fortunate -Becky Chambers) rn because you recomended it and I'm LOVING it! Thanks so much for your wonderful reccomandations!

Really enjoyed the dark half and loved the imagery of its ending and Dolores Claiborne was sooo good very underrated king book
Really enjoy these reading vlogs
I enjoyed Christine, The Dark Half, and Delores Clairborne, and my favorite was Misery
Stephen King is hit or miss for me. I really enjoyed 11/22/63 which I saw on your shelf. You might want to give it a try.

From what I remember, I think the ending was a bit funky like a lot of King books. Even so, it was interesting and though provoking.
I actually really loved Under the Dome (including the ending!!)- def worth the 1200 pages
That's a bad kitty, I know I have 2 🤦🏼♀️ the youngest is pure chaos. I've found her on top of the blinds after scaling a chair and somehow a glass cabinet to get up there 🤣
You mentioned War and Peace in this vlog (briefly) - I signed up for War and Peace and Emails where every day they email you a chapter from War and Peace so that by the end of the year (it's got like 361 chapters) you will have read the book. It would make for a really interesting long-term vlog idea... Just saying! ;) Love your One Week One Shelf vids! =) Can't wait to see what you choose next!
I love drawing of the three amazing new characters TIME TRAVELING.
I've definitely given up on King's books - I've read a good solid chunk of them and so far, every one has been like the literary equivalent of ordering soup and getting a bowl of tepid water instead 🙃 I liked 'On Writing' though, as he's definitely a person that writers can learn a lot from, one way or another.
i read dolores claiborne and its sister novel geralds game last year and enjoyed both a lot
My favorite King books are: Faithful, which he wrote with Stewart O'Nan. It's a journal of the 2004 baseball season, focusing on the Boston Red Sox. And On Writing.
Dogs are children, cats are teenagers. Generally, to keep cats from climbing on things they shouldn't, you want a tower in that area. But yeah, those bookshelves are definitely too tempting

Love this series!
My 17 year old self did enjoy Christine and Pet Cemetery, although I couldn’t read them before turning out the light at bedtime. I stopped reading King about 40 years ago😂 I just can’t for the reasons you have mentioned!
I really enjoyed reading Delores Claiborne. I think I read it around 25 years ago (I was a teenager at the time) and I still think about it.
I haven’t read King since high school (when I was obsessed.) Since then my tastes tend to be more litfic, and his books are obviously more focused on plot than beautiful, nuanced writing, but I think I’d still love The Stand and The Shining. His later books were DNF’s for me so I’ve given up on him, but if you’re going to read more King I think you’d like those two, especially The Stand.
I’ve been doing a “read my tbr” challenge before buying more books this year. I unhauled all of my unread King books, too. Just don’t have the energy for him.
I loved the dark tower (you have to read the edited version of The Gunslinger... it makes all the difference). I loved The Long Walk and It.
Ohh glad it ended up being enjoyable for you! I've never been attracted by Stephen King for all the reasons you mentioned (and because I'm not into horror at all, though I know he did write other kinds of books as well). As for Sherlock Holmes, it will really depend on what kind of mystery/thriller reader you are - what I love the most about Agatha Christie, for example, is the fact that she sprinkles clever clues that makes it so the reader can figure it out along the way. I found it wasn't the case with Sherlock Holmes most of the time because it's all about him figuring things out in a very visual way, and the readers are usually left in the dark about those things until the very end. What I loved most about Conan Doyle's stories were his writing style - some quotes stayed with me - and his lovable characters (Sherlock and Watson's interactions are just *chef's kiss* 👌 in my opinion). Also, if you do try Christie, I'm sure you'll love Hercule Poirot, he loves playing the dumb foreigner and then *BAM* he reveals who did it in the most dramatic humorous way. 😂 I did enjoy And Then There Were None, but not enough to pick up another of her books, but Poirot did it for me, and now he's one of my all-time favourite characters (and reading them with my hubby just made it 10x better).
I absolutely enjoyed christine the dark half was good glad you enjoyed the dead zone I absolutely had a blast reading it I also enjoyed the movie adaptation
Love these so much. The cat is the best.
You could try Salem's lot. It's a vampire story.
My favorite Stephen King book is Needful Things.
I would really love to see you try some of his short story collections. I have always felt that his endings are awful in his full-length books, but have found his short story anthologies to be among my top favorites in horror. I think he does the short-format really well and it highlights his writing skills without giving him enough time to get too weird, haha. I highly recommend "Night Shift", "Full Dark, No Stars", and "Bazaar of Bad Dreams" which I believe you have!
I can recommend Delores Claiborne but as an audiobook, it was really good.
I loved Dolores Claiborne!
The Long Walk is my Dads favorite book! I haven't read enough king to decide - but I did really enjoy Misery!

I read it and liked it, and I'm about 70% way done The Stand and I'm not too sure about it yet!
Ah damn. I love The Drawing of the Three. Well, you gave it a shot
I've read Dolores Claiborne of the others you showed and really enjoyed it!
So far my favorite book by Stephen King is The Green Mile. I'd be interested in what you think of Delores Clayborne. I love the movie but I haven't yet read the book. I'll give The Dead Zone a looksie! Thanks for the video!
The Dead Zone is a Stephen King classic….great book….
If you do have Sherlock Holmes on the shelf I suggest the short story "The Speckled Band," that was my favorite when I read the complete works.
I used to read a lot of Stephen King & loved The Stand, also Dr Sleep. Recently I read one called Later, which is short but intense. I’m with you on the Gunslinger series, such a hot mess!
I still remember finally finishing book 1 of the dark tower after slogging through it, and I literally tossed it into the closet bc I was so mad at wasting my time, and it put me in a reading slump🥴 But, I did read Cell by him and enjoyed it, though the ending is controversial (which is pretty common with King). For me, King is a hit or miss author, and it leads me to not pick up books from him, because there's no guarantee I'll like it. However, I'm enjoying the vlogs and appearances from the kitty!
My favorite book is Dolores Claiborne it's so underrated along with the movie adaptation starring kathy bates

So many people are raving about it that I'll have to try it!
This was a funny video for me to watch since Stephen King is my all time favorite author and I have read every single piece of fiction he wrote (still have to read his newest Fairy Tale)
Really enjoying the one week one shelf series. I have yet to read a complete Stephen King novel 😂
Should name the cat Alm, short for Adorable Little Monster. :)
Just to let you know there was a TV series based on Dead Zone. It started in 2002. It is on several streaming channels in the states but I'm not sure which ones it might be on in Canada.
My favorite Stephen King book is the very first book I've read from him and that's From a Buick 8. I believe it's one of his subtler horrors and I loved it as a teenager.
I really loved the Green Mile by King. Even if I personnally prefer the movie I still think its enjoyable in some way..! Also Sleeping beauties the idea was interesting !

I also really liked the Green Mile. Honestly I love any Stephen King book that doesn't have aliens in it 😂
I like Stephen King quite a lot. I learnt English reading his books, so i am also rather sentimental when it comes to him. But I hated the Dark Tower. Didn't continue with the series, won't ever come back to it. But Stephen King is good. Don't give up on him.
Love your horrified face near the end haha! Actually I really like War and Peace (although it took me 3 months to finish it). 9 months have passed since then and sometimes I still think of it.

I'm really excited for it after watching the tv show but there's no way I can do that in a week XD
You should definitely give a try with Dolores Claiborne, it is really good.
I really liked dolores clairborne
Two books I didn't see in your shelf that I absolutely loved by King are "The Green Mile" and "Misery" These are definitely different from most of his novels and I think they are some of his best, however my favorite book by him is The Stand so I guess take my suggestion with a grain of salt.
Happy Saturday Emily hope you have a relaxing weekend xoxo 😘 📙📚📚🤍❤️❤️💕📖📖💕💕❤️📚📙📙📚🤍❤️📖💕💕❤️📚📙📙📚📚🤍🤍📖📖💕❤️📚📙📙📙📚🤍❤️
I used to read Stephen King in the past but I always preferred his novels that he originally wrote under Richard Bachman, like The Long Walk, The Running Man and Thinner.
I enjoyed Dolores Claiborne and would recommend
War and Peace is long but it’s not a difficult book. It’s a story about a family. I find I have to keep a list of who is who in some books and this was definitely like that. I know when it’s time you can get through it.
Ooh, I really need to read some Sherlock Holmes books! I love historical mysteries and have read/watched many things based on those stories so I need to read the original lol.
Stephen King is one of my all time favourite authors and even I struggle with the Dark Tower series.
King is a hit or miss for me as well! I hate the weird sexual commentaries lol One that I love and think you will probably enjoy too is "Different Seasons", it's a collection of four short stories and two of them are amazing and were turned into movies (Stand By Me and Shawshank Redemption) ❤️

I've read the first short story and stopped in the middle of the second one... one day I'll finish it, for now it's on my pile of shame lol
The Dead Zone was the only Stephen King’s books I’ve tried. I picked it up because I enjoyed the Sci-Fi TV series that was based off of the book. I do think I liked the TV series better, but the book was alright, overall.
YES, SHERLOCK HOLMES, FINALLY!
Cats are adorable little monsters! 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
At the end of the year I would like to see a compilation with all the reactions 😁😁
I still need to get to The Dead Zone soon hopefully in this lifetime lol. My favourite King book would have to be Misery followed by The Shining.
The way I think of it is, if you’re going on a journey to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow with a troop of amazing people who give you the best adventure and help you find the meaning of life, only to find no gold at the end of the rainbow. It’s about the journey not the ending. Though the ending of many are fantastic…Pet, 11/22/63, Revival etc. The Dark Tower II and III are like an acid trip.
I really liked Christine by Stephen King. Given that it’s about a car I thought it would be boring but his writing in it is great.

I read it last November I absolutely enjoyed it
I think the least Stephen King books that I’ve read of his is Fairy Tale. Although not my favorite, I did enjoy that one.
Stephen King is one of my all time favourite authors but I have hated so many of his books just as much as I’ve loved them 😆 He just has so many books and I do wish I knew the ones I would love more than others but then it’s fun finding the good ones! I recent read Salem’s Lot and it ended up as my favourite book overall last year. It was so good I actually annotated it and have never done that before 🙈😆
The Long Walk is still the only King book I’ve read (rec from you years ago🤗) Fantastic until the last two pages. I’ve heard the audiobook for Dolores Claiborne is really good and has added sound effects
@BookswithEmilyFox

I was so mad about the ending that's why I couldn't give it 5 stars XD
And War and Peace is great, I liked a lot when I read it, and it's not hard to read at all
Christine was pretty good. Don’t remember too clearly as I read it almost 40 years ago when I was a teen 😂
My favorite Stephen King novels are Dead Zone, Firestarter, and The Talisman (which was a weird one, but I still enjoyed it.) To be honest, I prefer his short story anthologies much more than his novels. Different Seasons and Night Shift are my favorites.
Dolores Claiborne and The Dark Half are both pretty good if you want to give King another try.
The only Stephen King book I read and enjoyed was "Everything's Eventual" which is a collection of short stories. I would read Carrie because I enjoyed the movie, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
I'm on the 4th Dark Tower book so far, and each is better than the last. The Dark Tower is definitely not for everyone, but I'm loving it. My favorite Stephen King novel so far is "11/22/63". I would recommend that to anyone not sure about Stephen King :).
I always like the “idea” of King but his books just never quite hit for me. Maybe I go in with too high expectations I don’t know. But I do agree with other comments that 11/22/63 is quite good.
The Dead Zone was also made into a series and I love it you could watch that as well :)
From your Stephen King collection, I spotted Dolores Clairborne. I think you would like it as the protagonist was an alternate kind of heroine 🤓
You should really try the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. It's really short just about 200 pages.
I'm recommending "If it Bleeds" and "Fairy Tale" by Stephen King.
If you've read The Shining, you should read Doctor Sleep. I actually loved it even though I didn't think Shining needed a sequel. Also, it may be corny but it was one of my favorite endings of his. . .
The drawing of the three gets so good! The gunslinger is a weird series cause I hated book 1 too
