Looking back makes me appreciate how priviledged I was growing up in the late 70's and 80's.

I used to love this show as a kid. It feels so cosy like an old pair of slippers. Great to see two great Doctors together.

Doctor Who royalty, 3rd Doctor, (and Worzel Gummidge) Jon Pertwee, 5th Doctor, Peter Davison and his then wife, Sandra Dickinson (Trixi in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), Una Stubbs was also Aunt Sally in Worzel Gummidge and Beryl Reid appeared in Davison Dr Who episode, Earthshock. Quite a lot of connections in one episode.

Alan Corbett And Una Stubbs who acted alongside Jon Pertwee as aunt Sally in "Worzel Gummidge"! Oh, the irony (even though she was practically in every single episode of this!)

I was 16 in 1981 OMG 40 years ago !!! I remember watching this wonderful entertaining series with Lionel Blair as Team Captain on the one side and the lovely sadly now departed Una Stubbs as the other Team Captain. Jon Pertwee was my favourite Dr Who back in the 70's and Peter Davison in All Creatures Great and Small and his wife Sandra Dickinson. Beryl Reid and Lesley Judd from Blue Peter and Martin Jarvis Michael Aspel as the host. Back when the BBC and ITv were at the top of their game.

Peter Davidson and Sandra Dickerson were still married (to each other) at the time.Jon Pertwee was always my favourite doctor and loved him in Worzel Gummidge playing along side Una Stubbs as Aunt Sally.Would love to see a remake,think Jons son, Sean, would perfectly fit the role.

The remake was weird and nowhere near as good. Aunt Sally was Worzels old auntie who was in a museum. The modernised costumes were odd too. Mackenzie Crook played Worzel.

Sandra Dickinson, particularly as Trillian was always a favourite of mine. Probably why I still have a soft spot for blondes!

I remember during the show’s Italian tour when Lionel got very upset at not being allowed the use of his mouth to finish off Two Gentlemen of Verona.

I've met Sandra Dickinson at the Howard Jones live set in Holborn Pizza Express Live in October 2019. Lovely lady and aged so well. Still as pretty.

Chunks of my childhood right there- the Doctor, Wurzel, Aunt Sally, Rainbow, even the woman off the Philadelphia cheese ads!

It's not the first time Lionel collapsed with exhaustion as he failed to finish off The Varsity Drag in two minutes... Chairman Humph would be proud :o)

This was first transmitted on Tuesday 22nd September 1981 (ITV's 26th birthday!) The opening titles look as if they have just got straight into the charades without any introduction! I also assume that the Grange Hill theme confusion was spotted as early as 1981, and it had been changed as early as this. I thought that the theme changed a bit later, around the time Michael Parkinson took over. This theme was used until the end of 1987 when Una Stubbs left and was replaced as the ladies' team captain by Liza Goddard, presumably because she was team captain on the short-lived BBC show Music Match which was very similar. A bit of trivia for you here: If you were a fan of the pre-school children's television programmes that was on ITV at 12.10 pm at the time (just like I was as a three year old back in 1981), you will be amazed to find that apart from Pipkins, every other children's television programme in that 12.10 pm slot at the time had someone on this episode from one of those those programmes. Geoffrey Hayes from Thames' Rainbow of course, Peter Davison from Granada's Once Upon a Time (along with his Mrs - Sandra Dickinson), and Beryl Reid from Yorkshire's Get Up & Go! This is probably the only time ever that all three of them had appeared on the same programme together! It's a pity that no-one from Pipkins (Hartley Hare, perhaps?!) was in this episode to complete the line-up. Also, the inclusion of Jon Pertwee means that both Worzel and Aunt Sally appear, as well as two Doctor Whos as well! And Geoffrey Hayes' dungarees remind me of the Hale and Pace characters Billy and Johnny for some reason. Brilliant episode.

Actually, Thames shown it on 22nd September 1981, although I think that other regions, ATV in the Midlands for example, has shown it the following day at 5.15 pm, but most regions shown it within that week.

@@mistofoles Woof! was a good kids show and Liza Goddard has been in a lot of things. Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. The Brothers. Minder. Bergerac. Doctors and Casualty. Liza Goddard was married to David Combham whom directed Woof! and former Doctor Who Colin Baker.

The Day of the Doctors! I was eleven at the time and notice Aunt Sally (now deceased) and Worzel Gummidge on opposite sides. Along with Blue Peter and Rainbow! I remember them well.

And I believe this episode will be on the _Give Us a Clue_ DVD boxset of the Michael Aspel years out in November 2022. The promo spiel for the boxset says all three Goodies will be on, along with two "Doctors Who".

A few years ago, there was a clip of GUAC on here, (probably an off-air from UK Gold in the 1990s) that had the Grange Hill theme tune on it. It was from the time when it started around 1979, and the guests also had a member of the public on Una and Lionel's teams as two of the people taking part. Would love to see this back on here again.

It's not nostalgia. Britain was just a nicer country then.

And Beryl Reid had just been in an episode of Worzel Gummidge called 'Muvvers Day' (this episode didn't have Aunt Sally though). Apparently, Pertwee was quite aloof with her and splashed her when he drove through a muddy puddle in his Land Rover. She wasn't at all amused.

The one they used later in the decade makes me laugh, where the names of the regulars are sung. It sounds like the composer really struggled to fit "Liza Goddard" into the music.

Does anyone recall the name of that one semi-regular guy that appeared in the show's early years who wore, I think, a brown suit, had white hair, a white mustache and round glasses? He was slender, quite old and often put on a sort of surprised expression when doing his miming. His run was on the show was during the same time as Una Stubbs. I can't see him on the cast list at IMDb so it may have been a similar show.
