that's exactly it, without him Mbappé could never have had so many spaces in 2018, he's the perfect pivot for this team....and Mbappé has understood well over the matches with Benzema in the France team that he needed more, for his game, a pure striker, who drops less, like Giroud.... Benzema is a magnificent striker, complete but who is a mixture of his 2 idols, Ronaldo and Zidane

the second penalty that Kane missed, remembers me of Messi in copa america centenario 2016 when Messi missed too, the pressure knowing that the keeper (Claudio Bravo former teammate at Barcelona) knew him very well, that lead Messi to miss , and now Lloris to Kane. Very similar takes also if you compare both executions. The pressure must be insane when the keeper knows you very well, especially in a decisive penalty.

Something a little bit similar happened in the 2022 World Cup qualifications between Italy and Switzerland. In the first game between the 2, Italy were given a penalty and Jorginho was gonna take it. Turns out Sommer (the Swiss keeper) knew Jorginho's style of taking penalties so he made Jorginho think he'd go a certain direction but tricked Jorginho and so the penalty was saved. Eventually in the 2nd game between the two nations, Italy were awarded a penalty once again and Jorginho would take it again. However this time Jorginho had sent the ball over the crossbar.

Even in a game that finished in regular time, England found a way to lose on penalties.
