No they grew up in a Kpop where Boy groups was dominant. They broke that barrier and lift Girl Groups on equal footing. They are the reason Kpop today is unisex. They got lots of hate back then by fangirls... their saddness was at the 2008 Dream Concert where they got the BLACK OCEAN with ❌from those fangirls during their performance. They also got hate because it was reveal after their debuted that Sunny was the niece of SM founder. The public spread so much hate on her calling her ugly and talentless. Some people also didn't see anyone as useful as Yoona and Taeyeon... going as far as to say that their fame was due to those two members. Snsd had to beg, pleaded and work their ass off for the success they have today. It wasn't an easy road but with the heart, golden personality and talent of 9 they are now the TEXTBOOK for girl group..... the Rite of Passage.

Really appreciate your comment! I hope what I was saying didn’t come off as me saying they had it easier. What I was speculating about was, they could be a little bit bolder at variety shows or interviews since the media attention maybe was slightly less intense a decade ago than now.

@@saskoreacts I understood exactly what you said. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment. Also please do a Snsd evolution by reaction to all the group's work from debuted to present... only the group not the subunits or solos. You won't be disappointed. Snsd was the Gem they are from the very beginning. The talent was there from day one. They're not just the Queen of Kpop but of concepts... they created CONCEPTS and slayed them all. You'll see from their work just HOW MUCH of an INFLUENCE they are on the Kpop industry.

Sunny literally started the "aegyo queen and also excessive expressions in performances" that others capitalizes now. The fake maknae Schick. The energy pill/happy virus. Tiffany with the "eye smile" that newbies also inhabit. Hyoyeon with "dancing machine" "mood maker" being blonde forever Yoona with "face/center" SNSD opened the variety style wherein female idols are "dorks" and dont care for their image and other groups do in excess now. The concept of imitating sounds, personalities etc honestly they've done them all.

Sunny really does have acting talents, she has even acted in a few musicals as the lead. In one of their older variety appearances they did like an acting "competition" between the members and to my recollection, Sunny won that. She was really great!! She did get offers (again, to my recollection) to dramas, but refused because she thought she didn't have the visuals for those. Also the fact that she's the niece of Lee Soo Man could have played a part in it; Maybe she didn't want to be accused of being favoured yet again... ._.

And we're always so glad when new kpop fans give the queens the respect they deserve and in general when people take the time to go back and listen to them, especially when they give the proper attention to all their songs rather than just a few classics. Also, for videos like this, don't worry about pausing them etc if things are going too fast so you can read! Oh, and you may have mentioned it before, but where are you from? I can't tell if your accent is Scandinavian or more Central European/German. It's definitely Germanic, I just can't place where exactly! Btw, for context about the clip at like 18:40, where Sooyoung was talking and then told someone to be quiet/sit down when he shouted out and stood up - that's a show called Knowing Bros/Ask Us Anything/Men on a Mission (they use all the titles interchangeably) which is one of the best, funniest variety shows on TV. Not just Korean TV, but the world. It is loosely in a 'school classroom' setting and the main segment is where the episode's guests stand at the front and give questions about themselves that the 7 regular cast members have to guess the answers to. SNSD's episodes (they are one of the only guests to have had their appearance stretch over 2 consecutive episodes - only IU has done so as well, showing the level of popularity they have. BTS, Blackpink, EXO, Twice, Red Velvet etc all only had one episode per appearance, though Twice, EXO and Red Velvet have appeared multiple times, with some members also coming seperately/with other people) are among the show's all time classics - the Snow Whites and the 7 dwarves sketch that was also in this video is from that. The guy who stood up shouting 'I know the answer' (basically) was Kim Heechul. He's a part of the legendary boy group Super Junior, who debuted around a year before SNSD did. Consequently the two groups essentially grew up together, trained together, and experienced their establishment as two of Korea's top idol groups of the time together. And therefore, they know each other incredibly well. Heechul is famous for his closeness with so many female idols - he seems to be best friends with so many girl group members it's a wonder how he keeps up. He's also been the subject of many, many rumours of dating (and being gay) - in fact only a week ago did he officially confirm being in a relationship with a girl group member, Twice's Momo. But SNSD and Heechul have always had an amazing relationship, both teasing each other (that's him again in the back of the clip with Yoona at like 20:20) and being savage but also loving and supporting. Heechul is a well known TV personality and is considered the 'psycho' of Knowing Bros due to his super quick wit, encyclopaedic knowledge of music and media, lack of filter and savagery towards the guests and the other cast members (which include comedians, famous former sportsmen, a member of a legendary 1st gen kpop group turned songwriter/producer, and one of Korea's most beloved male singers from a domestically famous rock band) but when SNSD came on the show, he was put in his place. Only SNSD and Sooyoung can shut Heechul up just like that. It was such good TV to watch, I'd really recommend checking it out if you can (and it'd be great to see you reacting to it, though you'd have to obviously edit the video down to just highlights) - you can find it with English subtitles on websites like Kshow123 and so on.

I really appreciate the comment! I know the show and I also know who Heechul is even though I‘ve never reacted or watched Super Junior. But i‘ve seen knowing bros with several groups and i agree it’s a really good show. And Heechul seems to be a really nice guy and role model for idols based on the little things i‘ve seen and heard of him. I saw a compilation with him & Irene interactions & it was hilarious. Also it was kinda impossible to miss the news about him & Momo dating 😅 I kinda figured SJ and SNSD were close since they were the biggest SM groups at the time but thanks for all the details! It’s really interesting to read about all the history those two groups share with each other.

@@saskoreacts Awesome, I'm really glad! Definitely check out the SNSD episodes if you haven't already. My personal favourite episodes along with those ones are the IU ones, the Psy one, the first Red Velvet one, the SHINee ones (including the one with just Irene and Jonghyun, RIP) and the Super Junior ones in terms of the big guests. The recent one with AKMU and Somi was excellent too, as was the one where they visited local historical places, temples etc and learned about the history of the Korean flag among other things.I also really liked the episode where they had the 'bad girls' of some groups which included Hyoyeon and Mamamoo's Hwasa (I especially love seeing how much other girl group members are in awe of SNSD members whenever they see them, one of my favourite clips - not from KB, but another show - is of Johnny from NCT confessing how much Yoona meant to him growing up). The episode of foreigners is great too - Joon Hyun from g.o.d. (the legendary Wassup Man), NCT/SuperM's Lucas, (G)I-DLE's Yuqi and Got7's Bambam - I love also that JYP himself has been on the show twice alongside his own artists. But my favourite episodes are the ones where instead of doing the normal guest format, they do music. The episode where Heechul and Kyunghoon revealed they wanted to release a song together and the process of recording it and making the MV (which is hilarious - especially in the current context, given that Momo is the lead actress in it; there was a point where Heechul was ringing people to ask them to be the lead, and Kyunghoon was blown away by the fact he could just casually pick up his phone and call Taeyeon and AOA) and what's really amazing is that the song was a huge hit - their duo project, Universe Cowards, won Best Rock Song two years running at MAMA. The other music ones are where they fulfill a promise to record their own theme song - which is actually pretty good - and then the two episode special where they form 3 teams and compete in writing a song and making a video for it, performing live at the end. It's so awesome seeing how Yeongcheol can also casually call up legendary singers like Wheesung and even just get Momoland members to come along for the video (he even came out on music shows with his own trot songs before), how Hodong's video was filmed entirely on mobile phones and had crazy editing done - and how the Queen of trot Hong Jin Young, president of the Korean Songwriter's Association, has featured in so many episodes and helped them with their music so many times. But most awesome of all was Universe Cowards going to Japan to film this incredible video - definitely not a funny one this time - directed by Shindong (also in Super Junior), with a famous actress, martial artists, Jisun from fromis_9 (Heechul's students from the show Idol School which formed them - he is essentially like their mentor, still helping them out to this day, and it's really sweet) and the song is also incredible. Sorry, I really rambled there, but I love the show and I hope you will watch those episodes if you haven't already! It's a great way to get to know some groups better as well as learning more about Korean celebrities and culture and history, not to mention being hilarious and great entertainment. It would be awesome to see you reacting to the highlights of some of them if you can! But at the very least, please react to the aforementioned music videos, especially Sweet Dream and Falling Blossoms (the Universe Coward ones).

Ngl I laughed at 'she looks so nice' @ Sunny. I mean don't get me wrong, she's a wonderful lady but she's one of the best example there is of looks/first impressions being misleading. She seems sweet and harmless but she's a tough cookie. She grew up in Kuwait during the gulf war and moved to Korea as a refugee. As heartbreaking as it is to think of what she went through as a kid (to this day explosions like fireworks are very triggering to her to the point that members have often been spotted covering her ears for her while they're going off), it really harden her and made her into a no nonsense lady. She isn't gonna deal with your crap. At one point, someone literally attempted to kidnap Taeyeon off stage and Sunny IMMEDIATELY followed to confront him. There are other smaller examples as well of Sunny really being a bit of a badass. The members have also often said that Sunny is the one who is least like her stage persona behind the scenes. Many people have said that after Jessica's departure in 2014, Sunny lost her spark and was no longer interested in doing the whole upbeat idol thing. I think personally that that's true to an extent but largely it's more to do with the fact that she's a 30 year old woman and isn't interested in doing the whole childish aegyo act anymore.

The video didnt do all the girls justice. I know the dance line have great dance moves but they have amazing vocals too. YoonA and her chinese songs are so sweet and she raps occasionally and she's also a prankster and savage since she hangs out with Sica and Sooyoung a lot. Sooyoung has improved so much with vocals to where she was basically a lead singer after Jessica's departure. Her rap wasnt showcased too. Hyoyeon is dancing queen but she can rap too and has improved with vocals even if she gets the least number of lines next to YoonA. Yuri has husky and sexy vocals that should have been shown as well as rap. Seohyun's amazing vocals were not shown as much as the Vocal line.
