I wanna leave this comment for anybody still living under the same roof with abusive, disfunctional or simply unhealthy parents. I'm praying for you and rooting for you, you are not alone and God is very much with you. I know it feels like your alone but you are not, the one lies the enemy uses will convince you that you are alone, unworthy and should be ashamed. ITS NOT YOUR FAULT!! Hold on, you will get through this, you're gonna be okay and God is gonna be with you every step of the way. Please, if you are being abused, reach out to someone you trust, people are willing to help and no child deserves to go through this. I love you so much, I'm rooting for you❤

I was literally thinking abt this topic yesterday after having a disagreement with my dad. It’s so easy for me to feel like I’ve been wronged and only ruminate in those feelings but to decide to take it to God is very humbling but also necessary especially if I want to unite with my parents. I have considered why life would be like if I were to cut them off but I would also like them to be in my life

Idk why i felt like Zion was doing the exact same thing Emy's parents probably do to her which is invalidate her feelings and gloss over it with scriptures. Even shocking that Zion is a therapist HOWEVER i do agree that maybe Emy shouldnt cut of her parents entirely but maybe a check in once every quarter (with zero expectations while choosing to love them exactly as they are) esp if shes moved out. Personally i feel like cutting off is necessary only if they are deliberately harming you but if its not deliberate and targeted at you; if its a case of lack of self awareness ie they are simply not doing the work to learn to see their faults then you cant change that; you cant change anybody but without cutting them off entirely; a check in every other-some month with zero expectations is better than no relationship at all

😂I dont think its possible to telll your African parents that you need space for your wound to heal....it would just be termed as 'disrespect'..🫠..and you end up being the bad guy

I can totally relate! I’ve tried havi bc these conversations with parents who are African and immigrants and it often wouldn’t go the greatest. I would be gaslit and reminded of my past wrong doings every time something didn’t go right on my life.
