In my opinion,i feel like the real purpose of them of them changing the misogynistic lyrics to the other way round in "bang bang bang" is for gender equality purposes(although not really the right way and lyrics either but also having no other choices to change those words too) and to shade the lyricists of that song during that time and indirectly tell them through that cover that "how do they feel like as males if we change it to the other way round?" and also don't really have the real intention to put down all men too. To be honest at first,i thought if they wanted to change the misogynistic lyrics,why can't they change that particular sexist line into some other "gender equality" line instead of doing the same thing as those lyricists do but the opposite way but then i realized that there is no other suitable "gender equality" line and words that could replace and fit the song because those other words and lines won't ever fit the beats and rhythm of the songs.The song was just designed for those original sexist lyrics after all.It's inevitable to change that lyric without putting down one of the gender.Though i hate to admit, that iconic bop song is just that sexist after all

Even as someone who stans significantly more boy groups than girl groups, I really don't understand why male idols don't jut cover gg song with all the femininity and charms. It really annoys me how it has to always be much more aggressive and masculine or just disrespectful, while gg retain the original song's energy in bg song covers, with minor adjustments to fit them better. Changing a cover up a bit to fit you isn't bad, but changing the whole vibe of the song to not be too "feminine" just goes to show how much it's seen as something bad...? sigh.... That being said, the Dreamcatcher "Bang Bang Bang" cover is legendary and I think I rewatched it about a million times when I discovered it a few months ago. Edit: i did see the replies and I do agree that girls being more "masculine" is currently more accepted in society. I recognize that boy groups in this matter have to fit into the more rigid standard. I still do hope that BG get to do GG covers however "feminine" they want. And there are really good examples of that already out there, like the boyz cover of twice.

Change the mentality of people first, bcs until now, girls being masculine is still way more accepted in society compare to boys being feminine. I remember, there's one of my friend, she's a person that always complained about boys making girlgroup choreo more masculine. But you know what? When once I saw her suddenly laugh out loud, I ask her why, then she showed me what she watching, it's a man covering gg choreo PERFECTLY, without changing the vibes into more masculine, he can do all the moves very well tho, not stiff, but my friend, who even always demanding boys for not making gg choreo into masculine, she laugh :), she laugh at a man being feminine :). Yeah sometimes peple in society are that weird, and double standard, so, change the society first, boys being feminine must be accepted the same way as girls being masculine.

I love that dreamcatcher don’t change the pronouns (except for bang bang bang) like in Really Really they kept the she/her pronouns and in other covers you can also hear them keep the original pronouns. I love that🥺

For the most part, boy groups cover girl groups as more of a joke than anything else and put little to no effort in and it shows. When girl groups cover boy groups, they go all out, and honestly, I like them more than the original. The way that they do it matches the original artist but adds a little bit of their personal touch in it and I just think that it is amazing. If you had to pick about your favorite cover where the original artist was the opposite gender, more than likely they will pick a girl group covering a boy group song.

Bcs society still looking at boys act feminine as a joke. You know what? Even I watched girlgroup members who being mentors on a boys show, then these girls ask a boy for dancing one of their (girl group) song, it's a feminine-cute song, and then the boy started dance seriously, with a good movements and cute expression, but the girlgroup members itselves who laugh at him :).

Fieshs Fieshs hm, what I meant by lowering the pitch is that some boy’s ( not all ) don’t have the ability to sing in a high pitch like, how can I explain ? Some boy’s have a rather deep gravel voice ? And sometimes when they try to hit a high note it come out more chocked ? Some idols don’t have a real expanded voice range which makes them struggle to hit the same note so that’s why basically better to change a bit of the pitch to fit the singers on, so the cover won’t come as breathy and chokey- stuff ? :0 and also you see some and again I say ( some ) not all male idols usually cover the girl group song / dance while changing the whole whole idea / choreography / beat, which at first you may think is a new song but turns out to be a cover they may not mean anything bad by it but some people will think they may attended or attempted to make the moves masculine to avoid hurting their masculinity because other girls groups usually cover the boy’s songs and nail the same move they do without being ’ disgusted / ashamed / shy ‘ by it after all music does not identify sexuality nor gender so why is it hard to keep the same choreography? They can add their own flavor and such but does it have to change so drastically that they make a new song instead of a cover ? Maybe they are afraid of being judged god knows Korea is a really sick country overcome with the hate towards anything different or new :( people need a generation that’s strong and forces the male on and female on standards, on other hand there is boy’s whom cover the girl group song lazily or more as a ‘ joke ‘ you see them wearing the same ( shorts / dress / etc ) as the female idol while also wearing a wig ( and they don’t even bother to set it properly because the more it slips the funnier it is right ? ) honestly I don’t mind if an male idol openly wears that, after all clothes has no gender but when honestly they suddenly start to dance ? it’s seems forced like ‘ haha laugh please, laugh now. ‘ even with the vocals they don’t even try hard they don’t they just do anything jump around twist their skirts / dresses and call it a day off which pisses me off really, because a real cover takes real preparation and choreography learning and vocal nailing and they don’t even bother which is really sad.

Let’s now take a male group and make them dance to it with ‘ masculinity ‘ ‘ bad boy style ‘ or something ‘ of course, the beat is soft and to die for but when you see the male dancing to it you’re just ‘ okay- calm down please ? ‘ the flow and the major of the cover is just way off right ? but let’s bring a rather elegant male who doesn’t let a song define his equality and sexuality anyway, he dances with a great flow and gives the actual strong move the power it deserves wouldn’t that be wonderful ? but anyway that’s my opinion if the group wants to add their own twist and flavor to the song let them be, it’s their own choice we all love to share our own thoughts and opinions on things I guess, and let me say honey ! Did you see the boyz ??? Of course you did but let me tell you, they are a great example of ‘ how to cover a gg song so greatly ‘ they are literally wearing black on black clothing while singing cheer up they nailed the choreography and such without having to go all hardcore and bad boy etc style, it’s so comforting to watch, and let me say sis when they sang ‘ be a real man ‘ my heart dropped, the level of confidence was so feral and high, watching them dance was so beautiful and a never recruiting memory sigh.

@@therealeros.5235 no I agree! it's definitely better to get the right pitch for guys, I was just a bit confused about not allowing them to change choreography then. but I agree with your points! I personally really like when dancers/groups add their own flavor to a cover (because a "cover" is never meant to be the original either way). It shows creativity and to me seems like they thought about the dance and wanted to improve on it for themselves. (I'm strictly thinking about Astro Rocky's cover of Snapping here - he got a bunch of hate for that, even though it's so well crafted and fit his style while still respecting the original) but I agree that if there are too too many changes, it's not a cover but an original choreography. and if that original choreography doesn't fit the song at all, it would obviously be weird. Basically as long as they work hard on making good covers and respecting the original, I'm happy. The Boyz do it really well! And A.C.E comes to mind too. A.C.E's main dancer Byeongkwan has mentioned that he finds it hard to dance to girl groups because they require so much body control. They really try hard on their gg covers too! Love their gg song covers too

i don’t know if this is really relevant, but i think it’s because MOST not all, bg that cover gg , they just slap on a wig and indirectly or directly make fun of the original song, while most gg take it serious, and even put their own spin on the song they are covering

I can't remember which group it was but I rember the big controversy around it because they kept purposely falling over when they covered a gfriend song. so it's a multitude of problems. yes it is funny to see a guy in a dress and wig but it's the intention behind it that's the problem

Maybe you just dont listen the GG who dont have High pitched voice. Dreamcatcher is so good doing cover from BG because they dont have cute or sexy concept, and their rock music makes then use a lower voice too.

i don't agree w u but i can totally see why you think like this, i used to like only the female badass concepts when i got into kpop and get annoyed with cute songs but i kinda push myself to listen to different music because not everyone sings like a child and i actually found some masterpieces and my favorite styles, i think that some girl groups can't show their full potential with their concepts but they're still showing talent, like just by debuting and being able to dance, sing, rap at the same time and even with uncomfortable clothes and shoes are showing off their professionalism and talent

hm, for me it's not a war tho, i'm neither a bg or a gg stan, but the facts are the facts and women have all their right to feel offended or mad when a men (even if they stan them) makes fun of a whole genre, for me, the bg covers have been sooooooo much better than before bs the society has changed too, and for better, but it's literally the minimum, i guess that gg stans are also tired of bg stans talking shit when their girls make a cover and it's not powerful enough for them but when their male bias do summ "funny" as a cover it's an icon, there's like a wild and long history behind this so idk,,,,,
