just for some clarification, i want this concept to make a comeback with age appropriate idols and those who are willing to try the concept over being forced into it as it is so much better for the fans but most importantly the artists themselves (hence why stellar aren't included) also another note this vid is just second/third gen examples of the concept as i am aware there are more recent versions i.e. tonight by black swan, memories by girl crush etc. however something about second/third gen sexy concepts just hits different and i want it back

Indeed, there's nothing wrong with the concept as long as it's done by adults who are comfortable with it. It's sad that some companies push idols into doing things they don't want to do, but it doesn't mean a sexy concept can't be done ethically.

I do miss sexy concepts, mostly when you could tell the group themself actually loved it and felt confident doing so. I felt like it was just as "empowering" as girl crush, or even doing teen crush/more innocent concepts if that's what made a group feel the best.

tbh the song’s instruments was good, but the melody line was really one dimensional- it’s really disappointing for me considering the vibe of the music was so good and holds so much potential for the melody to elevate it. Sigh... This video just made me sad remembering all the great 2nd gen girl groups who I used to love so much and still do like SNSD, T-ara, Kara, Secret, After School, 4Minute, Sistar, Miss A, BEG, EXID etc.. Honestly, it was really a time where each group did a variety of different concepts and had distinct sounds that made them stand out from each other. No hate to newer gen groups but honestly, most of them sound very similar since literally everyone seems to be doing girl crush concepts only (there are some exceptions, of course, but not enough). Unlike 2nd gen girl groups who were concept chameleons (ie: SNSD and T-ara who have never repeated concepts), girl groups nowadays debut with one concept (mostly girl crush) and pretty much stick to it comeback after comeback.

personally, I prefer groups sticking with one concept, since I'm usually in it for the music - if, for example, I liked dreamcatcher for the rock and cool vibes and they suddenly decided to go bubblegum pop for their next album, I'd probably leave them. CLC has been a great example how concept changes can blow up in your face. I have only a few groups that I follow bc I love the members and don't mind the concept hopping that much (Astro, Oh My Girl, BTS), but even then my patience with BTS's american pop escapades is starting to crumble. I wasn't around for 2nd gen, so if you don't mind me asking, how was it seeing groups you love suddenly change with every release?

I don't know how that applies to 3rd gen girl groups at all, I'm sorry I just don't see. Mamamoo, I.O.I, Red Velvet, Cosmic Girls, Blackpink, Gfriend, Twice, Weki Meki, Momoland, Dreamcatcher, Lovelyz and CLC share as much similarity to each other as any 2nd gen girl group, and the distinction only rises if you include those "gen 2.5" GG (AOA, Brave Girls, EXID). As for 4th gen, Aespa, Itzy and Everglow are clearly not being distinct from each other that much, which is a shame because they did debut pretty different but you see Purple Kiss, Rocket Punch, Weeekly and StayC are doing their own stuff so I wouldn't say it's all the same. I personally don't consider them 4th gen (more like 3.5), but Loona enters in the first bunch (becoming unrecognizable), while G-Idle stays on the second (doing their own thing). So yeah, there's a stagnation issue but I don't think it's really that big.

If we had more songs that sounded like fantasy by fei I’d die from being breathless for too long. That song kills me every time. Also i think 2/3 Gen sexy songs hit differently because more of them were likely made by Korean producers while 4 gen has a lot more western producers in it.

Sunmi, hyuna (especially her), and miss A really killed these ugh

The thing is that most groups that appropriate for this concept disbanded. We don't have idols in the right age to do this. What's left from old gen are AOA and Apink, and I don't see Apink in this at all. As for AOA probably will never see a comeback fom them.

I want it to be back for full grown adult women. SISTAR gets credit but not enough. ALONE and LOVING U were high up on year end charts in 2012 along with gangnam style. I really believe they were responsible for the surge of sexy concepts at that time. A lot of groups were running with cute but soon changed to sexy around that time too.

I love sexy concept when it’s well done, such a big chefkiss in my opinion. Also we don’t see sexy concepts these days because new gen idols are really young and it wouldn’t be appropriate for them but I believe this concept will come back in the future

Tbh it would be nice if there was a group that started out with a somewhat lighter and cuter concept for example groups like NCT Dream and Astro and then slowly evolved into a group that did more sexier concepts. I honestly feel like NCT Dream would be great for this maybe a few years into the future once Chenle and Jisung gain a little more confidence. I also think that Itzy or Aespa might be able to pull off a sexier concept some time in a few years as well.

Both Secret and Girls Day are that kind of group. They only fault is that they are girl groups and girl groups are so underrated (also for secret they had that shitty company that is TS behind them, poor thing)
