I came across Roger Alan Wade’s music in 2012 on KZread or the like. I was instantly hooked! I was just starting to really dig into writing songs at the time and coming from a punk rock world, the humor and the freedom of words really resonated with me. It just so happens that Roger Alan Wade is more punk rock than most punk bands out there today and writes songs like John Prine, Waylon, Willie, Hank, DAC and all them outlaw souls that I grew up with!
In 2016 I was starting to find my own voice in the folked up outlaw country world and had heard Roger was gonna be performing on The Outlaw Cruise out in the Atlantic Ocean between Florida and Mexico, I didn’t need much more convincing than that, so we boarded the ship and had the time of our lives.
I saw Rog play 4 times on that trip and got to meet him in the ship's casino where smoking was allowed, and I assume he spent a lot of time. We sang and drank with a group of RAW fans in that casino till they made us leave. I met a bunch of the Big Ass Happy Family and still stay in touch with a lot of them to this day!
When I was working out what song to do on my new album, I knew I wanted to redo an old song of mine, Girl From the Liquor Store and one day "Bear Loves Honey" (written by RAW) came on a playlist I was listening to and I could hear the potential mash up/medley, so I reached out to Rog and with his approval, I’m honored to have added it to my new record.
