The whole smiling doesn't win you gold metals is because they kept telling her all season long to stop smiling and at one point Kelly anne said she seemed fake so the week when she didn't smiling they suddenly had something to say about that too and I think she just snapped and I would've too. They weren't critiquing her dancing they started critiquing her personality which was uncalled for so Kelly Osborne shut up she clearly doesn't know the situation.

On the Simone Biles thing... I think it’s great that she was confident enough to clap back. Sure it can seem like she wasn’t taking criticism well or like she wasn’t being humble. So what? Women of color have to work so hard to get to what she has achieved and sure humility and respect goes a long way but I feel like this is the type of thing that if a white woman said she wouldn’t get so much negative attention from rather she’d be bombarded with #boss #brave along with other white feminist labels. I have nothing against white women or feminists but I think we should take the advice at the beginning of this video and stop tearing successful women apart for what they decide to do/say. Like that’s her game face and it is kind of annoying for men to tell women to smile.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO PAY ATTENTION: The girls on the show made it out like the "smiling" comment was about her performing. IT WAS NOT! The host specifically said, "I was waiting for you to smile AT SOME OF THE COMPLIMENTS.....YOU DIDN'T" & at the same time, he gestured towards the judges on the panel (cuz that's what he was referring to). He was referring to Simone showing some happiness at compliments she was getting from the judges. Not referring to smiling during her performances. As a huge fan of Simone, her response was in poor taste. Her PR team is scrambling to fix it as I type, guaranteed. Anytime someone compliments you, what do you do??? Most people SMILE and say, "Thank you". The host noticed that Simone doesn't smile when hearing such positive compliments. Simone's "clap back" came off as arrogant and ignorant. But, it's also a learning experience for her. She is human. She is the PERFECT gymnast. But she is not a perfect person and NO ONE is. That's the point.

actually, I disagree, it was not in poor taste. what was in poor taste is antagonizing someone for no good reason. I'm LISTENING AND FOCUSING on what's being said. a smile is so minuet in that situation, and the judges didn't seem to care when they were giving her those compliments. do you know what shows gratitude? applying what you learned. not a smile. If she doesn't smile, so? she was dancing her butt off and giving 110%. I hope she isn't made to apologize for some dudes hurt ego. @@Queennari I hope it doesn't affect her future analysis from the judges. I really hope it don't. I wanna see her win so bad!!! Laurie Hernandez won in 2017. Shawn Johnson was on twice and came in 2nd place both times. It would be awesome if she won. No matter what, the number one rule in proper "complimenting" responses is to be humble. That response was not.

Nikki B you sound nuts. Like coo coo bananas. I’ve complemented tons of people in my day and people react in a million different ways. Some people are over the moon, some more stoic, some even angry lol. Actually bringing up the fact that it wasn’t about the performance but rather he feels she needs to be all smiles merely because they complemented her just proves Loni’s point. He wasn’t giving her a tip about her dancing. He just felt away she wasn’t as outwards jubilant as HE’D like. And to that I also say F U. He may personally think she needs to be grinning like an idiot because of a complement but that’s not her style. Sorry not sorry 😐

He's used to watching contestants smile and get excited from receiving excellent reviews. By the way my comment never stated that many dont react differently to compliments. I said "most" smile & thank you. I hope she wins. That's all I care about. So if I'm coo-coo for explaining what happened, or having nice manners, so be it. I'd rather be that any day of the week than have your qualities. "F-u", I think you said??? Yea, I'm not losing sleep over an ignorant person that gotta comment and grossly curse at another person. I appreciated all the ladies inputs because all five of them were in shows regarding reality whether it was regarding their own lives or a competition show or even hosting a show where they helping somebody else’s life being shown on the forefront... Tamera , Adrienne & Kelly all had reality shows that weren’t based on set ups/ fake drama for ratings... what you saw , was what you got ! And Jeannie’s was more of a quick little let me inspire women and make them feel better through their fashion whereas Loni competed on a show! So they all have valid reasons to say what they had to say and give the input they felt was necessary!

Honestly, that kind of annoys me that they were trying to say that Simone was responding with an attitude. Like... not only did she say it with a smile but it was also articulate and well put. Why are people so pro- censorship in the court of public opinion? She can’t respond honestly to how the host made her feel with that unnecessary question. Smiling does NOT win you gold medals! Skill does. And furthermore she can smile or not smile if she wants to. It didn’t seem like she was firing back at the judges, it seemed like she was responding to the HOST’s question. I leave you guys with this question. Would anyone have said she was “firing back” or responding with an “attitude” if she wasn’t a black woman?

It's all about context. Smiling may not get you gold at sporting events, but a different posture is expected in dance. And in any event, you have to be able to take constructive criticism and be respectful about it. That's how you learn & move forward. I understand that she's used to competing in gymnastics, but at the same time, she chose to compete in a dance competition. (Both events the judges has certain expectations and dance always involve a passionate expression).

I'm late but what I mostly didn't like was, the rumor or whatever wasn't a petty lie. Its not like she said, 'oh Kandy said that Porsha slept with someone's husband' and then Phaedra repeated that. She said they were going to drug and sexually assault another women. That's a serious offense, you can get jail time for that. The mindset to actually drug and assault someone diminishes your character, your morals, your humanity. That ain't cool, even if it was a for show and drama, thats still going way too far. That wasn't entertaining nor funny.

We weren’t afforded the luxury to smile during our duty to produce. Black women could’nt vote 100 years ago. People forget and behave outside their struggle.... when u are focused to break the frame the energy presented is focused.... not appeasing... Harriet tubman wasn’t smiling leading people of captivity..... she was focused to let people know freedom is obtainable. False Smiles got us captivated in the first place.

Okay so, as a dancer and a gymnast, I can honestly say that smiling is so incredibly important both on and off the floor. My dance instructor and my gym trainer both used to preach a lot about the importance of being personable because you have to be able to show judges and adjudicators that you love what you do. In dance, as Kelly said, you have to emulate the emotion behind the routine you're performing and it's the same in rhythmic gymnastics. Artistic expression means being able to emote. Power gymnasts are less expected to smile during a routine but that's mainly because it really is judged more around skill and execution but one thing that is the same across all of gymnastics and all of dance is that, when you're receiving feedback, you smile and you appear gracious and humble. Overconfidence makes you look entitled and conceited and it paints you as unlikable. You have to be professional and what Simone said was NOT professional. Her attitude was very defensive and rude and, were she to speak like this to a judge in a gymnastics competition, she'd have been dragged across the coals. In any sport, you have to be disciplined and controlled. Where was the self-control in Simone's response?

I think honesty is always the best policy, but also, it’s situational. Like, if you plan a surprise party, you mostly lie to get the person out and wait til everything’s ready. Also, Santa is really a big thing. And it’s so sad because St. Nicholas Was a real person, and now it’s turned into a fad. I think Honesty is the best policy, when it comes to situations like this. If you know somethin, don’t be quiet, say somethin! The way it was said, in front of cameras, wasn’t good. If your kids say sugar & fat free candy tastes bad and you tell them that’s how All candy tastes to get them to stop eating it, that’s a lie, but I think since it gives them health benefits, it might be a good decision. Everything isn’t always black & white. You should take it a day at a time.
