This is not a Netflix show. It is in fact a BBC show and Netflix North America has bought temporary viewing rights. The show was never meant to have a season 2 as it is not a meaningless american sitcom. It's a single contained story with a beginning and and end and it is executed marvelously. Anything more than that would have corrupted the original material.

Not really a masterpiece. Doesn't say what happens in the end and contains unnecessary character that doesn't have anything to do with the plot.
@ZhangK71

ForeverAkatsuki 1. Which characters did you think were unnecessary? 2. The whole overarching theme of the show was the conflict between different emotions, loyalties, etc., so I give the show a pass for going with the “bittersweet ambiguous ending” route. When the male protagonist struggles in and fears choosing between “the other woman” whom he genuinely loves and feels happy being with and the loyal and dutiful wife to whom he owes so much, it’s not exactly fitting for him to say, “Hey, wifey, you’ve been great, but what I’ve learned is that leaving you for a new woman willy-nilly is the definite better choice”, or “Hey, lady with whom I would happily spend the rest of my life, I clearly yearn to be with you but the script is telling me to leave you as if you don’t mean anything to me, so that’s what I’m gonna be doing”. The whole point of the internal conflict is that he can’t choose, and the deliberately indecisive and inconclusive ending is supposed to portray that feeling and be frustrating to us viewers.

Lol masterpiece? It started off well but for three episodes kenzo just waited and did nothing while his 16 year old daughter was running around with junkies and his wife was caring for his dying father. This entire simple story could have been told in 2 episodes. We dont need 8 episodes to conclude that kenzo is a weak soft man even worse than his brother who goes from coward to intimidating criminal in England inexplicably. First four episodes were solid but since about half the episodes were just kenzo waiting in a kitchen and apologizing to weitzmann after repeatedly saying “i dont know what to do” this is FAR from a masterpiece. Lets be honest, if this was made in the usa, no one would care at all
One of the best shows I have ever seen. Complex, beautiful, intriguing, frightening. English and Japanese mixed together seamlessly. Incredible editing and dialogue. Masterful and nuanced storytelling. So happy I stumbled across this gem, absolutely worth watching in one sitting.

Netflix this show is so underrated and amazing. Please advertise this one more because people should be watching this.
The way this series slayed, from the theatricality of scenes, the complexity of characters, and the versatility of plots in every episode, this was beautifully and brilliantly done.
Giri / Haji, Dogs of Berlin and Mr.Robot are most underrated TV shows ever.
I wish I could erase this show from my memory just so I can watch it again for the first time. Amazing - one of the best shows offered on Netflix (Australia). Beautifully constructed and warmingly acted; characters you can fall in love with.
this show made my heart blossom and break repeatedly. It is so original, raw, deep and relatable. the cast 10/10 the acting 10/10 the plot 10/10 the cinematography 10/10 THE SOUNDTRACK 10/10 and the way it was all put together turned it into a masterpiece. this is so worth of watching
To those who are considering watching this, please do so. The eight episodes are really amazing. I would go call it a masterpiece but I'll leave it to public opinion. Every character is well written, monologues weave their way perfectly into the story and the fight sequences, though unrealistic like other shows, grip you and pull you into the story. Episode four is in a different class. Even if the show ended there, I would have been content. It's one of the first times I had to take a break and go for a walk - an act contradicting my binge watching sessions. On the lighter side, Rodney (Will Sharpe) is an absolute joy to watch. The sass, glamour and delivery of his dialogues baffle you. I don't see anyone that would have fit the role better.

Small stories of people with existential crisis' and grey morals, jumping between authorities and criminal worlds. So, just fookin' finished the last episode. And I must say, it's great cultural fusion with brilliant boldness and hard-hitting action as well as amazing neo-noir. The centre of attraction was the screenplay of the series, meticulously in and out of the scenes (even with flashbacks as almost every character deals with their past) But in the end, it all remains the characters with you. The black humour and tragic-comic elements are just marvellous. The use of multiple aspect ration with deeper and justified meaning, whereas the recaps and animations add enigmatic stylization to the story. The fantastically written character which gives you more information with lots of suspense in it, even you start caring about supporting and catalysts characters. The title, Giri/Haji (Shame/Duty) is not limited to the crime, cops and yakuza but to the moral duties and values against the shame of guilt, regret and emotional burdens (As have impressive layers of the family drama). Powerful content! Looking forward to the next season. Arigato!

Kept coming across this on Netflix in search for another great show to watch. Didn't expect much from this one, clicked on it desperate to find SOMETHING good nowadays. I'm halfway through episode 2, yes only episode 2 and I'm ALL in. This show is masterful, powerful, perfectly written and executed! They don't make many like this. The feel alone while watching this is something special. I've seen many great shows; Breaking Bad, The Five, Traverlers, 13 Reasons Why but this one stands out, along with The Messiah which was brilliant. No waiting around they jump right into it from the start without alot of boring buildup. Love this show already. Btw i didn't know the Yakuza was this bad ass!
The best show I’ve ever seen. EVER. Every single actor, cinematography, plot, music score is first class. I don’t get why BBC/Netflix cancelled season 2. Absolute waste of talent.
Amazing blend of film noir, graphic novel, tarantino and kurosawa.

@@thehater6189the only character development I saw in the show was totally negative. The British lady goes from reporting her ex for planting drugs, to harboring literal murders herself. Then she gets her ex killed, feels bad about it for a scene (not really cause she just blames Rodney) and then goes on with her life. No principles, no guilt, she pretty much just does whatever she wants and then is shocked that people hate her for it.
