I am a Luthier with an Original Maggini Brescia from 1647. This is clearly a well made German replica of a Maggini from late 1800's to 1910, Pre-WW1. Maggini Violins have double purfling and an extra curl in the head. The wood grain of the case is German Pine or sub-Alpine Fir This Violin's value is $450. She is ruining this violin by keeping it that case! Do Not throw away the case! it has value and was made for this violin! Wrap the Violin in a t-shirt or towel to protect the varnish and timber. I have been searching You Tube for more information about my Maggini, but there is very little information. I suppose that's my hint to post what I have learned.

You seem to be more fascinated with the case than the violin

If this was mine, it’d never spend another minute in that old case.

$450.00 with bird's eye maple hmm, the back alone is worth $450.00 (In my opinion).

Throw that case in the GARBAGE. Remove strings and tailpiece. Don’t turn unsecured violin upside down. F holes are the giveaway. Early 1900s trade violin. Many had no corner blocks. Some only had the rear two. Fancy grain pattern is not the measure of a violin, btw. Some of these were never graduated on the inside; just left flat with a couple of chisel swipes next to where the bass bar is on real violins. This may need $500-$1,000. worth of repair work to be playable. Blown end blocks are very common on old violins, and expensive to repair, but not as much as sound post or bass bar cracks. That case may be full of bug eggs. Get rid of it. There’s your fiddle project. Bluegrassers may prefer steel strings and 4 fine tuners. Hope you know a good violin redtorer. They won’t screw up your instrument where a typical guitar tech will.

Well, I am a guitar Luthier who has an Original 1647 Maggini Brescia. Although much that you wrote is correct, She is destroying this violin, most quality Guitar luthiers are trained to follow traditional violin making techniques, such as using casein glues that can be taken apart, extra attention to tone woods and Top Plate geometry etc. You Tube channels like Rosa String Works are NOT Luthiers but cabinetmakers who destroy many vintage instruments.
