I asked my teacher why, although she was a fantastic singer, why Aprile's career fizzled out. She said she was very erratic about tempi and all over the place and never followed anything.

@@smurf902 Well the saying goes: bel canto --> can belto --> can't belto. Apparently she also was totally full of herself. My teacher said that he once sang in the chorus of Tosca when she was on the decline. She spent the entire rehearsal time filing her nails and refusing to make eye contact with the plebeians. Something like that.

Bullshit. She was being very gracious to everyone else involved by moving on when the public obviously adored her. She looked stunning and sounded opulent. I would take Millo over a thousand of these so-called singers, today.

@@eastfiftyseven Gentile signore, ho 70 anni, di cui molti trascorsi a studiare Composizione e pianoforte al Conservatorio; ma anche nell'ascolto della Musica di tutti i generi (come diceva Duke Ellington "c'è musica buona e cattiva dappertutto"). Ormai pensionato, trascorro la mia vita esclusivamente ascoltando a teatro o su YT o Spotify. Si capisce: la mia vita è interamente dedicata a questo. Credo di avere una buona preparazione, dunque. Questo genere di interpreti messi lì principalmente a strappare un applauso, un'ovazione, "tutti in piedi" anche quando l'esibizione è tecnicamente di basso rilievo, fa parte di questo mondo moderno nel quale non mi riconosco. Guardo e ascolto alla ricerca di qualcuno che emerga dal grigiore generale ma sembra che all'orizzonte compaiano solo i Domingo diventati direttori d'orchestra o baritoni (disgustoso!), i Kaufman, le Netrebko, le Millo. E tutto in contesti finti, con lustrini, paillettes, in funzione dello spettacolo a tutti i costi. No, non ci siamo proprio. Cordiali saluti
