Gio Aplon - Ultimate Rugby Highlights

Gio Aplon was an electric player. Whenever he touched the ball, the crowd got excited because anything could happen. I remember seeing him play for the University of Stellenbosch in 2004 and I realized here was something special.
He made his name at Western Province and he will be remembered mostly for his time at The Stormers, but he also spent some time in France and ended his career with the Bulls.
Here are some of the best tries he scored during his long career.

Underrated and underappreciated. Was on the same level as guys like Kolbe and Arendse are now, but during a time where undersized players were overlooked for the Springboks. Wish we could have seen him in his prime today
I remember seeing Cheslin Kolbe play for the first time and thinking, "wow this is Aplon on steroids!!!"
Really rated this guy, one of the best finishers in SA.
When you watch this, then you realize he play for a long time with many greats. You can now see how he was overlookat times .... He made it to the URC
He stepped Sivuvatu into another dimension. Great line. Great step.
Was at France game at Newlands, Gio was just amazing. These are just his tries, one should remember he’d consistently break from his 22 and get to the other 22. Paved the way for many now enjoy the recognition…Maximum respect Gio
Him and Arendse are so a like. They both love the in and out step and are very good at it. Arendse has scored a try for the bulls against some URc team in the NH that looks identical to this, on the one on one. 17:10

He was a quicker and more elusive version of Kolbe. The guy scored so many amazing tries. He's attacking game is on the same level as Rupeni Caucaunibuca and Christian Cullen..

@@Nyasalands_Finest what on earth are you basing this on? Kolbe's try per game ratio is greater. How do you know who is quicker? Have you seen them race? Kolbe is also a stand in kicker. I love them both. Gio should've had more opportunities in the Bok jersey but SA was still obsessed with size.

@@nox6885 Simply because Gio mentioned it in an interview. They were both on the end of year tour team in 2018. He also mentioned that Zahier Ryland, Mapimpi, Nokwe and Chavhanga were the quickest players he played with. Fun fact: Even a 38 year old Aplon was still quicker than Kurt-lee Arendse at the Bulls.. I think you also forgot that Aplon was a kicker..He was also the stand in kicker behind Joe Pietersen. Remember he used to take the drop goals when he was in the 7s team
