I'm glad you chose to react to this version, which combines the live performance from the Wacken 2013 concert with the last part of the song called "Love" from the album recorded in the studio ("Imaginaerum", 2011). This was the favorite song of the late Ann Waychoff, a lady from Pennsylvania who dedicated her last years to promoting the band she loved, Nightwish. She welcomes all the new reactors with a short history of the band and some words of encouragement. When she was hospitalized, I took over this tradition, posting the message in her name. She was a tactful and gentle person, gathering around her a good number of fans. It made us aware of the importance of what unites us, despite what separates us. Thank you for having the openness to choose this version knowing that the last part is a poem, penetrating deeper in this way into the feeling and mind of Tuomas Holopainen, in the opinion of many of us a genius of contemporary music.

I'm so glad that you didn't take my advice, and did the long version with the poetry. That poetry is really such an integral part of the entire work. Tuomas is a composer, a lyricist, a poet and a thinker. This song is so profound and I love it as one of my most favorite Nighwish works of art. Just an idea, but this might be a good song to do a deep dive on. There are so many layers here and even on this first go-through, you noticed things that I have never noticed before.

R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army. June 28th, 2020 This is your song. If you ever have to explain the Groove in Metal to someone - play this tune. Until the Breakdown hits you with a 10 ton hammer it is all fun and games. But then the slow chugging monster with the machine gun riffing takes over. And for every Metal Head this lights up the day. Awesome….Imho one of the best songs ever. Sometimes the sky is piano black…. Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries and Stonehenge, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !

Favorite song of the late Ann Waychoff, Mother of the Nightwish Army. 🕯. Tuomas wrote the poem section in an ode to the 19th century Song of Myself poem by Walt Whitman. Whitman is one of Tuomas' favorite poets. Voiced by friends and family of the band, including Troy, Tuomas' wife Johanna Kurkela, I think Tuomas' father, and others.

Let me just take a minute of remembering a woman I never knew - Ann Waychoff. This poetry can only be worked out for a very, very special human beeing with all the truth, the harmonie, desperation, abhorrence and hope in theese words. If that was the essence of her soul she must have been the most venerable person and I get to understand, why 'The Nightwish Army' misses her so much. I don't have faith, but my prayer to nature goes up to the little stars she left behind.

This one is inspired by the Walt Whitman poem of the same name from 1855. The passion shows in every way Ginx! It was almost like pizzicato string parts. The poetry at the ending is the main influence for the Walt Whitman poem. It is hard to take it all in. You need time to make sense of it all. Well done Ginx. BTW - Ann Waychoff is/was the unofficial mother/Grand Dame of the Nightwish army. R.I.P. Ann 🌹🌹🙏🙏 Gabriel has taken over her role and does a wonderful job helping to lead the charge.

I'd subscribe again if I could. Your reaction lifted my soul today, not that it needed it, but it was a welcome addition to my day. I can see in your eyes how the compositions of Tuomas affect you, because I feel them too. I consider him the greatest composer of my lifetime, and I have a long list of incredible performers, because I've been around quite a while. If you have not yet experienced his "side-project" AURI, I highly suggest it. It is comprised of Tuomas; his wife, Johnana Kurkela; and Troy, and it is the other side of the coin of Nightwish. Calm and sensual, I play it to relax me to sleep. All three compose, so it's the same genius level ... and Johanna is an incredible vocalist, well known in Finland. She is so sensual in her singing that your heart will just melt. She is also in another band you would like if you like AURI ... Eye of Melian, which is music based on fantasy, mostly Tolkien. You don't need to react to them, but I wish for you to enjoy them. They, like Nightwish, will massage your soul and make you whole. Well done Reaction, I love watching you hear them with a new song to you.

One of the excellent songs written by Tuomas, performed by Anette on the album and totally taken by Floor to another level within a few months in Nightwish. Much of the poem is spoken by Troy Donockley the sixth multi-instrumentalist band member from the UK. I believe you have yet to hear him playing various wind and stringed instruments in a song. Maybe try I Want My Tears Back at Buenos Aires in 2018/19.

Hello Gina, thanks for another great reaction. As for the energy flow, this song comes directly after Ghost Love Score on the setlist, how amazing is that to be able to sing (and play) this song so emotionally immediately after that incredible finale of GLS? Yes, this extended version is so powerful. By the way, (if you watch Song Of Myself again) pay attention to the lyrics shown on the video screen behind the band, because there they already did written this impressive poem from SOM Part IV (Love) out line by line. This text is literally reflected in the Imaginaerum Movie in which the daughter of main character (Thomas, played by Tuomas Holopainen) 'G Em' has to deal with the emotional and physical distance between her and her old father. The last poem line is: “And there forever remains that change from G to Em”. After his pass away, when Gem did return to her father's house to play the grand piano she notices that a key is misplaying, she opens the lid and discovers that there is a brass nameplate between the wires, removes it and places it on the repaired snow globe. The nameplate reads "G Em", revealing Gem's name as the keys G and E minor. Thomas mentions in the film that the two chords are the key to his memories and that he just wants to hear them one last time. He told her that if the chords are played correctly, the Arabesque will turn in the world. After Gem realizes that Thomas truly loved her, she plays the chord and Arabesque spins, symbolizing their reconciliation. Imaginaerum (also promoted as Imaginaerum by Nightwish) is the 2012 fantasy film co-written and directed by Stobe Harju. It was developed with and features music from the seventh studio album of the same name by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish; Nightwish's keyboardist and songwriter Tuomas Holopainen co-wrote the film.

The song is part of the concept album/film music Imaginaerum. If I didn't miss it, the song itself doesn't appear in the movie, but the object it quotes from does. The main character of the movie couldn't tell his daughter many things and their relationship fell apart because of it. When he develops dementia, he writes down everything he always wanted to say to her. He writes against being forgotten and dead. He loses because he can't finish it before his death and yet he wins. "That change from G to E minor" alludes to the film. The daughter complains about her father, who always lied to her with his musical fantasy world. He had told her while practicing the piano that if she played correctly, the music box on the piano would start playing. But they never played. After his death, she starts strumming the piano and at this point she discovers the key to the music box and lets it play. The quotes at the end are spoken by the band members and actors in the film. The song is inspired by the poem of the same name.

So glad you did the version with the poetry! I understand why it's not part of a live performance, but it's still a part of the experience of the song. Once you've reacted to the individual songs in live performance I recommend listening to the original "Imaginaerum" album, because although Nightwish is a live band first and foremost, the album is greater than the sum of its parts. (It's my second-favourite of theirs.)

Love this song and even more this version performed with Floor. Not the first time I hear it and/or watch a reaction to it and, I have to be honest here, the ending brings tears.

Hi Ginx... No 2 in my favourites list. Marco is superb - I love his second entry (the rising gliss) so much I extracted it and have it as my ringtone. Favourite parts: Piano Black , and particularly the best description of depression I've heard - "sometimes the within is piano black". Piano black - that deep glossy black that almost evades the eye. Emppu holding that long note one-handed as he drinks a Corona. The unexpected pauses (rests) towards the end, particularly, in this performance, when Floor turns her hands upwards and the flames seem to come from her palms. Great chuggy rhythms in the breakdown. Little pizzicato string sections in the run-up to that ending. At the end the lead vocals use the same lyrics as the choir are singing in the earlier parts - "All that great heart lying still and slowly dying All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". That lyric is perfect for the staccato rhythm. ...and lots more

I am glad you played the rest of them poem....as the first part of the poem is the part Floor sings and the band plays the music! Yippy can read the who!e poem by looking up the lyrics, as the whole poem is there. It's really very emotional....as most find it!

This song is for You Ann (mother of Nightwish Army) R.I.P 🤘😔🤘 Your flame and passion lives on in Us 🤘🔥🤘. Ann Waychoff was known by many as the Nightwish Mom. She would give comments to people who reacted to Nightwish videos to try and help the reactors understand and she would tirelessly exchange comments with people who wanted to know more. She also communicated privately with a large number of fans and reactors (we know now from the tributes.). kzread.info?search_query=ann+waychoff will show how many knew her and how many liked her enough to spend hours making videos about her/dedicated to her. Inspired by the 52 chapter 19th century poem by Walt Whitman. For me this song has some serious Pantera vibes 🤘🔥🤘. Pure fire and great song!!! This poem after this song always gets me .... NWSU/FloorFan.

Well, I stuck it to the end. This song is probably my favourite, if I had to pick one, which is an extremely difficult, given their vast catalogue of outstanding songs. Tuomas is a genius. Glad you did the seldom reacted to poem, it gets me every time I hear it, tears come to my eyes, love it. ❤️🤘🎸🎻🦘
