I have a masters in music comp and IMO, Gino Vanelli is the greatest living composer/arranger/vocalist. A good friend (now deceased) turned me on to his music in the 70’s and I’ve been a fan ever since…..and try to expose others to his music.

This man is a hidden gem like many other canadian musicians, pure pleasure for the ears and food for the mind.

If you haven't done so already, check out his album "Storm at Sunup" - that album will really take you on a journey...best heard on vinyl because of the way some of the tunes transition into one another.

Je retrouve le Gino des années 70, toujours plus jazzy, les cuivres en plus. En plus de 40 ans, jamais vu en concert. Durant de longues années, outre celui qui me le fit découvrir en 79 (un groupe franco-malgache qui reprenait Gino de Storm at sunup à Gist Of the Gemini), j'ai rencontré un gars en 87 et un autre en 2000. Méconnu en France jusqu'à Black cars. Avec Gino, je me suis toujours senti sur une autre planète à ressentir des choses que l'on ne m'avait jamais proposé, et que l'on ne me proposerait jamais. En 80, des rumeurs ont couru que nous l'avions perdu. Fausses évidemment, mais dramatiques pour autant. Plus tard, c'est l'inspiration qu'il perdit pour moi. Et il revint en 95 et aujourd'hui plus fort que jamais. Mais quelle chance nous avons aujourd'hui, d'avoir le Web pour découvrir de tels joyaux. Merci à ceux qui les relaient.. Ni adepte, ni fan.. Juste amoureux de sa musique

Jimmy Haslip (bassist on the original album) is still alive. Mark Craney, the original drummer, passed away... maybe it's more of a tribute to him...

Why…? I hate it when solos are played note for note. This guy is doing his own great interpretation of it and i love it! It still has elements of the original solo but also a lot of his own great ideas. And he also has a great sound!

Too bad the bassist couldn't kick that solo cause that was the 💩 when that song came out
