    Perhaps you can do a follow-up tutorial where you show viewers how to achieve the same effect non-destructively (e.g., instead of clearing the selection on the laptop you could have added a layer mask to make the transparent parts of the image, the baby could have been on a top layer with the inverse mask of the laptop image on that layer, and the shadow could have been added using a transparent layer below the baby layer with its blend mode set to multiply and a 40% gray used with the brush), since non-destructive techniques give the GIMP User even more flexibility in re-editing and refining the image later... Both techniques have their merits and use of either is a matter of personal preference, but I myself prefer non-destructive techniques so I can go back and tweak images later, as long as you save in XCF format, you can go back and export a new image without having to recreate any work...

    Hi Reed Brousseau. Thanks for posting. 👍 I agree. You are totally right about non-destructive editing. Its indeed a matter of preference and personal choise. I like to keep it simple, especially for the beginners among us. But working with more layers and layer masks, and then saving as XCF has definitly its advantages. Maybe I will use it more often in the future. Thanks very much for the input. Have a great day and.... have fun with Gimp 😃

    one question though, with my mac laptop im not using a mouse , how do i create the curves with the path tool. have not been able to find that thus far. would greatly appreciate some help, thank you.

  • @jimmystewart1974

    @jimmystewart1974

    Жыл бұрын

    you can make curves using CTRL key in windows. in mac it's COMMAND key i think. first you make two nodes/points where you want your curve.(make sure your straight line path is inside your subject and nodes are at edges this makes things easier) then you press and hold the CTRL/COMMAND key while you click and drag the path between two nodes. when you make a curve this way gimp automatically adds nodes to the path according to the curve so when you adjust one side of the curve you can adjust your rest of the path independently using the CTRL/Command key same way.
