    When I open first picture it shows me the whole picture. When I then add 2nd picture as layer it shows approx. 1/3 of picture. Usually middle section. I'd tried various things to correct this and nothing works. The first time I gave up and removed Gimp out of frustration. Decided to try again and reinstalled. Perfect. Then after 2 or 3 sessions it happens again. So now I just remove Gimp and re-install. Don't want to keep doing this. Can you help?

  • @gimpworkshop9729

    @gimpworkshop9729

    Hi mar str! I am so sorry to hear this. Gimp should be fun, and not something that gives you frustration!! I am not sure what happens, but I can think of some things you could try. First of all: does Gimp do this only with those images? And do you have the current stable version of Gimp: 2.8.22. I have made the tutorial myself anew to check it and it works okay. Have you tried the tutorial with the images that you can download via the description in the tutorial instead of your own images? Another thing you might try is first scaling the images that you want to use seperately, one by one, and then save them in your imagefolder. If you do that, you can scale them via image, scale image, and then fill in the width and height of 1920 and 1080 which is the size of the canvas in the tut. And then try the tutorial with these images, so you do not have to scale them anymore. To be sure, you might want to check if your videocard is up to date, but that is a wild guess of me. I hope something of this helps a bit. Please let me know how you are doing? Best, Jan GW.

    Why am I the only one for whom this method doesn't work? All that happens is the top layer goes completely black and no blending occurs.

  • 6 жыл бұрын

    Great explanation. I tried doing this with more than two images, and the moment I applied the second gradient, the first one disappeared. How can I do this four or five times in the same project and keep them all?

  • @gimpworkshop9729

    Hi Leön González 😃 Thanks! Are you on Gimp 2.10? If that is the case, you might have forgotten to hit enter with the first gradient... And the third image should be opened as layers and add a layer mask... When you are on Gimp 2.8, you do not hit enter, but just open the next image as new a new layer and also add a layer mask. When you want to make 2 gradients in the same layer, for instance one vertical and one horizontal, you first have to right click the gradient and hit apply gradient. Then add a new layer mask. Hope this helps, please let me know. 👍 ( When you are on Gimp 2.10, you might want to try this tutorial, kzread.info/dash/bejne/n6eCqLxsYqmohrw.html )

    Hi. My students at Seniornet today completed this exercise using the same images as you, but when we tried it with our own photos the results were not what they should have been - where are we going wrong??? Hoping that you can set us on the right path!!!

    Hi Janet Gay! Sorry to hear that. It is hard to say, without seeing the photo's, or how you implement the tutorial. But maybe the size is different, which can give problems when you do not scale them properly... It also makes a difference which photo's you use, some photo's give a nicer result then others, even when you follow the video precisely. You can also press Ctrl+Z and try again when the gradient does not look good, instead of trying again and again with the same gradient. Again, sorry I can't be of more help, but thanks for your comment. Have a nice day. Jan. GW.

    Hi Jan, Thank you for your reply, however I now have more questions. 1. Could you please explain what you mean by "scaling properly" 2. Our main problem is that the Blend Tool doesn't work - it just drags the top layer further to the right , exposing more of the middle layer with no blend occurring at all. Thanks. You have a nice day, too. Janet

  • @gimpworkshop9729

    @gimpworkshop9729

    Hi Janet, 1. When you scale the image, there must be enought overlap to make the gradient, but I think that is not the problem here. 2. I tried it myself and it looks as if you still have the move tool active, instead of the blend tool. Could that be the problem? Please let me know how you are doing. And... have a great day 😉. Jan. GW.
