Giles Martin on How Each Sound Element of Taxman Was Put Together For

Музыка

Pre-order the new Revolver special editions now: TheBeatles.lnk.to/Revolver2022
“It means the listener can be more immersed into it, and listen to the band in the studio, as they played it.” - Giles Martin shows us how each individual sound element in Taxman was pulled apart and then put back together to create the track’s stunning audio clarity in the new Revolver special editions.

The drums in the remixes are so much clearer, whereas before they were muddy and tended to get lost behind the other instruments. I have a new appreciation for how perfect his fills were. He's not flashy or blowing you away with his virtuosity, but he's always adding just the perfect amount.

It sounds like George does the count off on this recording Giles is playing. But who actually counts it off on the album? I've googled this in the past and there seems to be no "consensus". I always thought it was John, because that weird slow deep count matches his sense of humor.

Two count ins. First is Paul apparently doing the comedy voice ( I always believed it to be John too)and George in the background doing the real one.Though to me it sounds like Ringo. Drummers usually do count ins. Most frustrating .

@@scottandrewbrass I searched here on KZread, and found this video from a few weeks ago that agrees it was Paul doing the "main" count, and supplies good evidence to support that. Sometimes I forget that Paul has a "comedic" side to him. kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6mCz5dxqJzLfcY.html

@@jrussellcase Yeah thanks for that Russell. Commented on there a few weeks back. It's all fascinating stuff isn't it? But the real question that's always puzzled me is who did the voice on Revolution#9.

@@scottandrewbrass I'm pretty sure it wasn't Paul. Or George, or Ringo. 🤣 But that's a fascinating question.

There is something I don't quite understand. As Giles Martin said, Texman's drums, rhythm guitar, and bass were all recorded on one track, so how can their sounds be clearly separated?

If that could be done to "She loves you", it would be the first stereo mix of the song ever. All their early records could be remixed that way so that stereo is not vocals to the right music to the left.

I believe it could have but the tracks were either lost, mixed together or recorded over, making it not possible. At that stage in their careers nobody probably realised that there'd still be that much interest in them sixty odd years later.

@@pleasepermitmetospeakohgre1504 I believe Paul is referring to the fact that the beatles revolver tracks were demixed using machine learning, so you don't need the original tracks. There might be some issue with the fact its mono and not stereo, but they could probably grab the instruments from the german version of "she loves you", which is in stereo.

I didn't like the new remix of Tomorrow Never Knows, the seagulls like sound and other sound effects that I love appear to be lower, more buried in the new mix. I still prefer the original, those sound effects sound louder and in your face.
