My name is Matt Estlea, I'm a 22 year old Woodworker from Basingstoke in England and my aim is to make your woodworking less s***.
I come from 5 years tuition at Rycotewood Furniture Centre and 4 years experience working at Axminster Tools and Machinery where I still currently work on weekends. During the week, I film woodworking projects, tutorials, reviews and a viewer favourite 'Tool Duel' where I compare two cometitive manufacturers tools against one another to find out which is best.
I like to have a laugh and my videos are quite fast paced BUT you will learn a lot, I assure you.
Lets go make a mess.

I use a piece of wax paper , place it over the leaf, as it clings statically , then press down and it clings onto leaf, pick it up and lay it on the surface, rub gently with a cloth, lift the wax paper. And then repeat till done. Burnish with a soft cloth over the wax paper so it doesn’t tear!!
Ammonium sulphate will get you some nice greens and blues on the copper. It doesn’t smell either and it’s cheap. About 10 quid for a kg
Have you tried using a spray bottle instead of a brush to do the color transformation on gilding? I'd like to see a video where you try that to avoid the leaf tearing.
A strong colour under the leaf would leave an interesting effect where the leaf does come off 🤔
Fantastic video Matt! Something I've never thought of doing on wood until you shared that.
Great video mate! Definitely going to try your process on some copper leaf projects I've got going on. Also, You are hysterical. BBC should hire you for a show!
I've not myself ever used this type of medium. However it sure definitely looks like it's worth a try. Thank you so much for listing that book. Many blessings to you Matt!
Thanks Matt! I have never seen anyone do Gilding/Patination. Learned something today. Nice!
Great tutorial video! Really enjoyed watching. Thanks so much for sharing.
So interesting and what a wonderful finish! Absolutely loved! Thanks for sharing!
That vase is amazing. Your guitar is even better!
Nice switch up! Hope to see more videos like this in the future!
Love how he says "the shop will be uninhabitable," and immediately goes to sniff the jar of geyser perfume!
Hi Matt,
Very cool! Never knew this could be done. I am going to try now :)
keep up the great vids
Would you recommend putting a lacquer or epoxy on after all of this to make sure it doesn't flake off?
Very cool. Love your vids!
Just on this, maybe a good way of not risking the leaf ripping as you add the sulfur solution would be to to just place a paper towel over the leaf and then spray that with the solution. That way, you'd be able to get a fairly rigorous application of it, without leaving spray marks or having the brush pull up the material. Then you can just lift the paper towel up at the end and dab it dry with a clean one!
