I just love Gilbert O'Sullivan! He's such a sweet and humble person. Who wouldn't admire that?

True. He enjoys writing songs but I don’t get it. How come he dislikes listening to his own songs. I believe his top signature hit, Alone Again (Naturally), sounds beautiful despite sharing a melancholy tune.

It's true that Alone Again is the only deeply sad song I know of that you want to hear again. That is a tribute to his educated writing, I believe; he's doing more than bemoaning a loss. He's revealing his feelings about it at the same time. As for his not wanting to hear his songs, my opinion is that it is a direct consequence of having poured every bit of himself into it. What is possibly left for him to get from listening to it?
