Gilbert Family Murders-Husband kills Family in 1981

On a cold morning in January 1981 in delmar, iowa, a man named Gene Gilbert killed his 5 children and wife before driving 450 miles to his dad's house. He then ultimately took his own life.

I always have to wonder at the possible thought process of a dad who kills his entire family. “I have no job. We’re living on welfare. I can’t provide for my family. Maybe it would be better if my family just didn’t exist.” How a man can look at his sleeping children/stepchildren and then kill them will probably never be understood. Thank you for the video!

Man, was something in the water in Iowa over, like, a 100 year period to cause so many people to wipe out their entire families? I don't mean to offend anyone from Iowa, but I haven't heard of this many familicides happening in one state. Oddly enough, I’m 53, and I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s...matured in the 80’s...I’m in severe mental health crisis intervention right now as I’m watching this wishing my folks would have ended me back then! I am an emotional wreck, I have no ability to handle stress! The flashbacks of social isolation has hit me so hard I can’t handle it! I lived what these kids lived through. It was a different time back then and people didn’t get involved. If you told on your folks...there was H*** to pay! So, you left your teachers notes 📝 “thank you for loving me” I did it hundreds of times...it’s all you could do to get the message out! 😭 Now, I’m in crisis intervention at 53 because I had no one ☝️ to love 💕 me...and I don’t know how to handle that truth!

I am the cousin that was suppose to be there and be murdered as well but My Mom saved my life for she told Gene Gilbert No, she's not coming there. I need my Tricia with me. My Mom asked my A.Bonnie to let Dawn,Michelle and Jason come to our house for Xmas break but Gene Gilbert would not allow it. He took away our family and my best friends when I was in 4th grade. It pains me more and more every year to think of The huge family we would have with my kids to their kids, etc. He took that all away with no regret and he took the easy way out but I had nightmares for years that he was coming after me. We will never wake up from this nightmare and the hurt and pain will never t go away. I miss all of them every single day of my life. I had no idea this KZread video was made but this time of year brings back the memories of those phone calls and my father having to go identify their bodies. I know where you are at Gene Gilbert and it's the only thing that keeps me going everyday.... You are a coward keep 🔥
