Gil Scott-Heron, Winter In America, Central Park Summerstage, NYC 6-27-10 (HD)

Музыка

Gil Scott-Heron performing "Winter In America" at Central Park Summerstage, NYC 6-27-10.
I wasn't going to post this clip, or the one for "I'll Take Care Of You," because of the shakier than usual image, but then I figured some Gil fans out there might appreciate them anyway. Besides, more Gil Scott-Heron on youtube can't be a bad thing.
The band featured:
Kim Jordan - keyboards
Glenn Turner - harmonica
Carl Cornwell - saxophone and flute
Tony Duncanson - percussion

I first saw Gil in 1972 0n Long Island ,NY at a club called My Father's Place...great show, even brought Gil a drink and he said "thanks youngblood". Made my night.....fast foward to 2002.... Gil incarserated in Queensboro Correctional facility, where I worked as a corrections officer. Many nights of good, real conversation which I will not reveal. 2003, breakout concert at SOB's in Manhattan,NY. a good show. I remember thinking " Gil's back". Such a heavy, bueatiful, smart and kind brother!! Next news....Gil Scot-Heron passed away.....a very, very sad day.....R.I.P.....Gil's music and poems have been with me from a young man to present, a senior citizen.

Hey, Brotha, thank you, for telling your story of Gil Scott Heron. I would have given anything to have met him. This man was so phenomenally brilliant, intelligent, compassionate, and a great musical artist and songwriter. I loved him. Every time I listen to Winter in America I start to cry because I realize not much has changed within his gifted insight. songs. But, I'm always hopeful. God bless you. Shalom from Gidget

Just finished reading Gil Scott-Heron's memoir "The Last Holiday." This is a must read if you really want to know the man Gil. This was one brilliant brother! But you be the judge for yourself. Buy the book and you will have trouble putting it down. I loved his music and his views, but learning how they came to be was most interesting. We lost a brilliant, black mind when he passed away. Peace go with you brother.
