@Ryan Harren No not white, you must be stupid. Gil Scott was both a lyricist and a musician. Where modern rap and hip hop are strictly lyricist, the beats are not made by them, it's their sound engineers. Gil Scott WAS his own engineer, He was a musician with lots of understanding of jazz, funk, blues and soul. Played guitar, piano and flute (and God knows what else). I like rap as much as the next guy, but calling this "rap before rap" is like calling an orchestra, a hoe-down because they both use violin/fiddle.

This song prevented me from EVER trying Angel Dust. Thank you, Gil.

Gil Scott Heron… an ancestor worthy of the utmost respect, not only a musician but a story teller, a true artist. Sooo many artists use his songs in their samples even in this day and age, his work is timeless.

One of the coolest singers to ever exist on this planet.

Talented soul. Saw him perform in Houston circa 1980. Music resonates today. Too much.

This was one of my favorite songs in the late 70's. Great delivery, great voice, great production.

Just simply one of the greatest talents of all time. So sad he did not get the attention he deserved but he did get the attention of us who will never forget him.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's and I remember all the social issues or ills, listening to Gil Scott Heron gave me flashbacks, thank God things are much better for this generation, thanks for reminding me Gil Scott!!!

I remember this voice . This is voice was living in the 60's and 70's . You walked to this rhythm. Crazy, but this just brought me home .

The bass and how it goes with the beat is just too sexy. His poetic style of singing is just amazing!

Lol when this song first hit the radio I was a kid and it scared me! All I could think about was that story he was telling was a cryptic warning, too bad more people back then didn't take heed before they started dusting...but now hearing this again as an adult, I can appreciate not just the message, but the beautiful arrangement and sound.

My college days brought me here. Don't sleep on this entire album. The whole thang is killin'. "Third World Revolution" is my joint!

Absolutely ahead of his time, but then the greatest ones are always so. Our world is so messed up right now his music can still calm the soul to listen to these messages.

The album "The Secret" was the first album I ever heard. To say he kept it real would be an understatement. He spoke the truth of the black people.

Very gifted brother ,music with a positive message and very talented musicians very rare in today’s music to bad he fell victim of what he spoke against , RIP your legacy will live forever.

I took a college elective years and years back to fill a few credits. Rock and roll history. Did my paper on GSH. Did his bio. We had to play clips of the music. Played Home is Where the Hatred is and The Revolution to capture both aspects of his music. Was always a tug of war between altering the mind to where we lose ourselves and what needs to be done with reality. It’s 2020 and we’re still here.

Excellent musician. Such a fine man. Drugs can ruin your life as they did to Gil. Thanks for your music. RIP 🙏🏽.

Ironic that the two black recording artists who spent their lifetimes preaching about the dangers of drugs, GSH and James Brown, both got hooked late in life. A cautionary legacy.
