    Your video said first chart was MSI vs. Gigabyte, but chart title was MSI vs. FE. Can you clarify?

  • @GamersNexus

    @GamersNexus

    7 жыл бұрын

    It's clarified in the audio. The first chart shows the FE vs. MSI card so that you understand where the FE card matches up (aligns with MSI), because we next state that we're going to remove FE from the charts to simplify the lines. The next chart, as you should have seen, is GX vs. Xtreme.

Looks like they are giving the top AIB brands a real run for their money in performance ;) I'm a huge fan of your scientific approach to testing (especially as an engineer) and essentially stop off at your site first when doing research into which components to build with. Your in depth explanations of your testing method as well is super helpful in allowing me to properly assess the data you are presenting, top notch site with top notch reviews! as always - tremendous work you put in these reviews just to conclude that there is zero to 2% difference (because of architecture limits)... maybe next time include that dba and dba/temp charts and talk about those a bit (I looked up in your site - but come on - how many people look up anything in these days)... for example I am in market for 1080 and I get it that there is zero to none performance difference and all cards hit one overclock limit, because if nvidia - so that being out of the way I am very curious how good and silent these various coolers are (so basically I am paying only for cooler differences - not anything else if I choose nvidia Pascal - anything other is just useless "gaming" marketing).

    Can you re-confirm the tests with the back-plate copper sync? The GPU's PCB orientation in a test bench isn't typically the same as a case. It looks like you tested the GPU vertically vs horizontally. I'm curious to see if orientation (heat rises) will alter the effectiveness of the copper sync. Also when using the fan blow it down on the sync vs across. Directing air flow down on top is more effective than blowing across. Thx great review!

  • @GamersNexus

    @GamersNexus

    7 жыл бұрын

    That will absolutely not affect the results. We tested airflow from the front and from the top. The law of heat rising will have 0 impact on the efficacy of this plate. That's effectively overridden by blasting fans at it, anyway.

    Good to know. I have a Gigabyte 1080 Ti Gaming OC and it's stable across a plethora of games using +105 Core +700Mem this nets a 2050 peak boost with an average of 1974Mhz once the card beds in at ~75C - hence why im changing it for a better cooling solution, but by the sounds of things (your testing) the temperature is not holding my card back, it's the silicon? (its well noisy too) Cheers guys!

Or maybe you are right and we are all wasting our money. I am seeing used FE cards for under $700 so you have a point about buying one and adding an aftermarket cooler. Also do you think we will see unlocked BIOS for any of these?

    While I like that in this generation of nVidia-cards you mostly get similar performance no matter which model you buy, it still takes away some of the "fun" of "hunting for THE card". It really does not seem to matter which 1080ti you'll go for, as all of them will reach around 2 Ghz, give or take 50Mhz (without physical mods or BIOS mods). Most manufacturers use at least decent coolers for it, so no card will be really too hot or really too loud and even the stock VRM is a-okay.

  • @Jaymiecain1

    @Jaymiecain1

    Eh, it still matters to an extent. The look of the card, the lighting areas, the thermals, the sound the card makes, the customer support and warranty...I think a lot of budget brands have upped their game (Zotac have grown massively in the past 10 years) and Pascal seems to reach its limit quite quickly no matter what the third parties do with it.

  • @Brixxlnator

    @Brixxlnator

    no I already have those systems. One is an Optiplex, which is known to have issues with Radeon GPUs (won't even post, some issue with the Dell motherboard not recognizing the GPU) and so the choice would be a 1050 / 1050Ti. Problem is crappier performance and no freesync. My old gaming rig has a Phenom II CPU in it but that feels a lot worse than the i5 in therms of "snappy-ness" so... yeah. Tuchulu the i5 for better IPC (instructions per clock) And overclock it a bit IF YOU LIKE. mhz speed dosn't always equal better on gaming performance, the IPC matters more most of the time and with that generation of amd, I'm pretty sure it was lower. I'd go with the 1050ti or the 1060 3gb if your not going to go above 1080p with everything on medium. if so go for the 6gb model. that one has been known to hit 4.5 mhz with a overclock AND if you want to do so I recommend getting a aio unit for overclocking.

    The majority of heat generated by PCB components gets heatsinked into the PCB's layers through thermal solder pads. Putting a fancy backplate and thermal pads over those components' plastic/epoxy packaging doesn't improve their cooling by much and cuts off the PCB's own airflow. Unsurprisingly, decently laid out PCBs show little to no benefit from "heat-spreading shields" or whatever name the vendor calls them.

    Aslong as Pascal is kept under the right conditions it Overclocks like a beast, let's hope for VEGA.

    I hope vega is not like pascal in terms of OC. Pascal does not scale with voltage and you cannot have much fun overclocking it unless you are on LN2. Also pascal is very locked down.

    Joseph Florentine: Judging by past CGN Architectures it will be a case of higher IPC with similar voltage scaling similar to Polaris was.

    A waste of copper that someone is paying for (and it isn't Gigabyte). Good way to sell more product, though.

    It's lame how graphics cards are becoming monstrous day by day. Soon we will be inserting motherboards on a graphics card 😀

    What would be cool is motherboards with a socket for cpu and gpu adjacent chips in the same socket. You'd just have one good cooler for both. The boards would come with IC RAM that doubles as VRAM. You can still have standard slots for expansion and people who need more RAM. Maybe incorporate asynchronous compute style structure in to it somehow. More than likely it would just be one chip. I'm betting CPU's with parallel computing will be the future anyways. Already heading that direction with video on cpus.

    I have a better Ideas: Make a motherboard with a Cpu socket and Gpu Socket, both with their own memory ram set as well of their personal cooler. Can't really it would benefits of having company that make graphics card to become obsolete on one crazy ideas. Too bad I didn't take engineer.

    Still, extremely turned off by the Aorus branding logo and how Aorus is advertised. Gigabyte might not be the most charismatic name, but it beats the HELL out of Aorus

    I think it creates confusion, if anything. There are 3-4 1080's that are Gigabyte then another 1-2 that are Aorus. I have no idea which one is the top end or what the differences would even be. On top of that people who are casual or have been out of the computer tech game for a bit won't have a clue who Aorus are and may think it's a new comer.

    yea, I sort of agree. Bastet or Sekhmet would have been a tad cooler, if the logo was not a mess. Tho I do sort of have a bit of a soft spot for Ba'al in the later SG1 episodes.
