So does that mean if I gave it to a friend but it didn't buy the battle pass and you gift them you basically buy the battle pass for your friend? And would it be the battle pass for the season or next season?

For a 100% accurate answer you should check with CODM. But yes I think you would be buying it for your friend and it is for the current season.
