There were giant goldlfish in Bedford Park lake in the mid 90's - huge ones. They vanished in subsequent years though I'm not saying anything although I hear the Polish like to eat carp or so they say.

They'll eat anything so long as its sizable. In the 90s my local river used to have some pretty big pike. I retired from fishing due to other things going on about 10+ years ago but returned last year. Ive been fishing up and down river 3 miles each way, since last october. Not even a bite from as much as a tiny jack pike. Im pretty sure that their numbers have been completely obliterated and hardly any exist. Ive thrown all sizes of lures and i cant even get big perch either. Even in the same stretches of river where i used to catch perch bigger than my hand and pike anywhere between 5-30lb, Absolutely nothing. Granted. back in the 90s i was dead baiting for them. Gave all my old carp gear to my dad and bought myself a lure fishing setup for some quick and easy fun.

Lovely fish - clearly thriving. Apparently causing major problems in the Great Lakes in North America. Just watched a film about 'microfishing' for Bitterling in Japan. I know they exist in lakes and canals and even rivers in UK - would be interesting to have a go at catching some!

@@Big-Chungus21 My produced such a hybrid three years ago, it however didn't survive the winter the year it was born, but it's existence came as a surprise to me, for a couple of reasons: 1) The koi I had at the time it happened, I was told were too young to breed. 2) The koi was male. I knew hybridisation was possible between the two species, but everything I had read about it, referred to the hybrids being a combination of male goldfish, female koi. Not the other way around.

@@Big-Chungus21 Ah that one, that's most likely a fish that is going through it's colour change, from the natural silver-brown when young, to the gold-orange people usually think of when it comes to goldfish. I've read that the colour change can happen about 2-3 years of age, but from my experience breeding them, it can happen as young as a few of months old. I also have one in my pond that I bred myself, that remained brown for nine years before changing colour, it's now between 10-11 years old and completely orange.

Why say what you said at 1:58 then follow with what you said at 2:45 . Golden Carp (Carassius auratus) 'Goldfish' genus name (Carassius) = kind of river fish, species name (Auratus) = Golden, so Golden kind of river fish. Are call "Goldfish" because of Golden Carps natural colour that is a Bronze/Gold, not because of they're bright orange in colour, the orange in Golden Carp is a colour mutation. Being the most common colour, people just call the orange ones "Goldfish", technically it not wrong as they are Golden Carp as a species, but as i've said it's "Goldfish" because of there wild colour, not the orange mutation, typically when you have mixed colour Golden Carp in a pond, people will then call the orange ones 'orange Goldfish', rather than just 'Goldfish'.
