GIANT! Gag Grouper and Mangrove Snapper at Skyway Bridge Tampa Bay

In today's Video caught a really nice Gag Grouper while Mangrove snapper fishing at Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay! The snapper were schooled up under the boat and once the snapper bite slowed the gag grouper started chewing Gag grouper season doesn't start till September 1st this year but Red Snapper Season is opening up in about a week or so.

Nice Mangs, Any tips on where to get Red snapper went out Mexican pride last weekend and got nothing but snapped lines to some big Gags more than likely. Fish all in the water column but no snapper.

Hey Thank you glad you enjoyed it. Just wait till red snapper season. I do not have a captains license. I run a marketing company and mainly just fish for fun and filming videos.
Does strike Lines cover the Atlantic side of mid Florida?

They do have stuff on the east coast of Florida in their 3d charts it looks like they have nearshore and deep drops scans

I think you said the grouper would be legal if June 1st. Don’t believe the season open until 9/1

You are correct it opens September 1 added text on the screen to say that. I’m just always used to it opening June 1st so a mistake on my part.
I'm on Charlotte Harbor, our gag fishing is almost non existent down here due to lack of structure and such. Do you think it's worth take the ride by boat up to Tampa Bay for gags and hogs? And what was the name of that smaller grouper called?

That smaller grouper was a Carbo also called True black Grouper. And depending on time of year fall/winter is the best for hogs and gags. But who knows how long of a gag season we are even getting this year

That is a hell of a long boat ride to fish where he is. You don’t have a trailer for the boat? That spot at the skyway can also be inundated with dolphins. All the good inshore spots are also known by the dolphins. Sometimes they’re not there though. If they’re there you won’t get a decent fish to the boat. If you can trailer your boat there’s a few boat launches within 30 min to that spot.
Always can tell when the mangroves move back in when everyone flocks to the rocks 🙄
Dude you threw that mango back! At least get your commercial license and sell these fish to pay for fuel and the boat if you don't eat it. Grunts are 2 bucks a ib mangos are 5 a ib

@@roblewis7354 I'm a commercial fisherman haha. Blue and stone crab with a cls. Your license for mangos mullet etc NON Restricted species is 125 dollars a year.
And he releases it. Hard to watch your vids guy.
