While he packs his stuff away he puts tension on the cables so they will rewind on the spool on the truck tightly. If you want to get an idea as to how these tow truck drivers work, check out Ron Pratt. He runs a tow company in the mid west and runs a rotator type truck. You can learn a lot about how these guys do their work. Once again you've produced a great video!!

People walking between the heavy duty wrecker and the overturned dumpster is wrong. Why isn't the guy in the orange safety vest preventing the people from walking in that area? Second of all where are the N.Y.P.D. officers that are on the scene? They should be doing crowd control and keeping the pedestrians away from that area. That is a big liability for the towing company. If you are interested in how they upright machinery and trucks watch Ron Pratt from Midwest Truck and Pepe's Towing. Both companies film their jobs and then put them on youtube. They also explain what they are doing and how they are going to do the job. I watch them all the time. Great footage John.

You're always on alert in the NYC!!!I like your videos; high quality and professional. Everyone thinks that a Rotator is for ALL heavy tow jobs: in some parts of the country, you can't use a Rotator and rotators are heavier and expensive at $750,000- $1 million dollars+.If the operator didn't know what he's doing, he wouldn't have been promoted to a bigger truck. Those other guys, Pepe's in California and Ron Pratt in the Midwest- aren't in the most densely populated part of the country.

Yeah, I actually operated equipment like that for a year or two (that, and various garbage trucks) after I gave up on OTR trucking. Also I did a stint working at a landfill on the commercial tipping floor where those trucks unload all day long, way the hell back when I was in my mid-twenties. At any rate, that should be pretty hard to do, and for the operator to cause it, he'd have to hook at a rather extreme angle (like 45 degrees or more), tip the rail as far as it goes, and start reeling it in. And even then, the weight would probably have to be seriously off balance. That really isn't easy to do. I was really scratching my head trying to sort out how in the blazes that could have happened. I've never actually seen a halfway competent operator who reeled it all the way back with the rail tipped beyond a fairly shallow angle. Edit: Good chance equipment failure played some part as well, and the possibility occurs to me that the rollback bin might have been caught in some debris or rigging of some kind and that also contributed. Edit2: Well, that'll do it. The bin's all monkeyed up and won't stay on the rails. Now I'm starting to see how this happened.

Hey, just an FYI. Those trucks are called "roll off trucks", not "flatbeds". As for righting that box, if the driver had a chain (all roll off drivers should have a chain) he could have done it himself. Hell! the wrecker operator even did a crap job of righting the box!! He bent the sidewall because he didn't support it when he rolled it. Note to Planet Waste Service, YOUR DRIVERS SUCK AT THEIR JOB. The last time one of my guys flipped a box like that, from the time I got there to the time I had the box on the truck was under 25 minutes.

This operator was more stressful to watch than the idiots walking between the dumpster and his truck. This guy was more worried about looking cool for cameras but has no clue what he’s doing. I can’t believe his company lets him operate this size of a truck. This job should’ve taken longer to set up than to actually flip the box. Please get this operator help or move him to a regular tow truck for his and everyone else’s safety.

I drive a roll off too. The only way I see this bin flipping is if it wasn't sitting on the rails properly as he picked the bin up. Or he didn't chain the rear to the rails after he picked up the bin and turned the corner too hard. They should've put the damaged bin on a flatbed.

I know what I saw and as I said I hope someone works with him to make him a better operator as you see there at the end even PD was getting a little testy about the whole thing.

Ooh, shit....as someone who's worked for a while with roll-off trucks, you ALWAYS watch what that bin's doing while being lifted onto the rails. Always make sure the bin's aligned with the truck prior to lifting, even if you have to pull the front end out a bit to get it on the truck. All it takes is one or two seconds of the bin riding up over the rails, and you get what happened here. Or, for that matter, damage to the bin rails.
