Giant Aluminum Bronze Gem - From 3D Print to Metal - Sandcasting Aluminum Bronze - TheGrowingStack

Ойын-сауық

I 3D printed a giant gem and sandcasted it using 89/11 aluminum bronze. I ended up with a flaw in the gem near my sprue, but I completed it anyhow. It's a never ending learning experience and I had a lot of fun with this giant.
I hope you enjoy watching this one as much as I did making it!

    Hey my Friend!!!!!!!!!!! I am Alive!!!!!! LOL... had my heart surgery and was half a success.. yes half because it was being ornery they could only get one part of it done... Just means Ill probably have another surgery in the future but right now I am in down time for recovery and boom!! first video on my feed was You...Thanks for the drop and this like many things was a learning experience... seems from what I have seen sand casting can always be a crap shoot no matter how many times one does it... sometimes the metal just says... No.... I think it turned out great either way.. we could think of the bad spot as a gem cutter in training and where they cut a flawed gem wrong and lost the bevel.. so now you have a story... I hope this is coherent as the meds for pain are strong right now. I also like that you included posting more of the steps intext... also the bars looked good.. one was completely awesome and the other was good but looked like the metal was being difficult and wouldn't level in the mold for you right after the pour.. but dude that doesn't matter you have a great bar with that one still for a remelt later as it will be a cleaner melt using that one again...again thank you... this brightened my day tremendously!!! Be well my friend and keep on melting!!!! and sharing your journey. as we learn from you. Be well and safe in all you do...much love and respect .

    This is a great video! Thanks for sharing. Very thorough and well made. I would request that you add a caution to future videos encouraging people to preheat any metal they add to the hot crucible. If there is any moisture in the metal you add the crucible can suffer a steam explosion and spray you with molten metal.

    I really enjoyed this video. You already know that I don't care about perfection. It's all great practice! I wanted to ask if you were nervous when you 1st started melting?

  • @TheGrowingStack

    @TheGrowingStack

    8 ай бұрын

    Thank you as always Tracy I feel like we resonate on the perfection level… I always strive for it, but every melt/casting I like to play it as it lies so everyone can see what I actually did without any fluff. It is definitely great practice and learning with each endeavor. When I started melting I had a little nervousness but my drive for exploration and curiosity always over took my nerves… In my mind, when I get an idea to do something, or try something, nothing can stop it. I approach melting the same way 🙂👍

    I think it’s pretty cool, does the finish look better when you let it cool slowly or does putting it in ice so it cools faster make a difference in the shine? I do like it when you put it in ice though. It looks really cool and sounds awesome.
