    Spurs are a pack of wolves without a leader and Wemby is starting to emerge as the Alpha. He's the youngest, yet he has the maturity to get the respect by his play. Checking himself into the game without Pop's OK against Memphis got the message across to the entire league that this is his team now.

    He's a competitor. My concern with him is how does he handle all the losing on the spurs. It was talked about on espn about how he was being drafted to such a great situation, but its really not. Front office hasnt really made any moves to improve the team recently, and Pop seems to be checked out/tanking. Hope he continues to focus on his game and not get frustrated with the team

  • @JustAnotherAlex

    @JustAnotherAlex

    @Vaderftw1 why would he be frustrated? He knew early on that the Spurs weren't gonna win a lot of games. The point of this season was and is to try to learn how to win. He bought into that idea with Pop and Wright and the beginning of the season. Everyone's acting like he disobeyed Pop, but Zach Collins has said that Pop wants them to do the things he doesn't want them to do. Break out of your shell and have confidence in yourself. It's all a mental test. DJ Murray and Lonnie Walker IV, as well as Stephen Jackson have publicly bashed that method - although Jackson has since rescinded that opinion. However, Kawhi, after winning the 2014 championship, went up to Pop and said, "Thank you for pushing me." This is what he does.

    I'll say this everytime. Giannis is far more polished than he ever gets credit for and I don't get why he doesn't that credit. Footwork is fantastic amongst many other things. He's just not a good shooter. Nor is Wemby rn btw. Regardless, I'm glad that everyone enjoyed this amazing game & matchup. Just one thing with Yiannis (Greek spelling), not that it changes anything of this nice, thorough take: Ante was selling CDs and bags in Athens running away from the police.... That's how long he came, not just a skinny rookie. BUT. The genesis happening in the NBA is that, foreign players, from countries that every game matters, where winning is more important than showtime and stats are bringing back American basketball to its roots. Team, grind, unselfish, skill, less talk, more sports.

    Giannis was 6’7 when he was drafted and he grew 4” over the summer his second year in the league and put on a lot of muscle and he was actually a better shooter when he was slimmer but just because he gets to rim with relentless pursuit it doesn’t mean that he has no skills. His skill is attacking the basket and dominating.

    Bodies mean everything in pro sports. Giannis has been tip of toes through top of his head since he came into the league. Vic is 15 different parts. More skilled, understood. But that through body is under estimated. Not a skill set, but damn, the body. And the talent of trying. The talent of trying is grossly under valued.

    You mentioned that Giannis got blocked from Wemby but you ignored the fact that Giannis also dunk in wemby's face twice and won him in other plays also.. But i get it, it was your favorite play from the game. By the way, Giannis was blocked many times in his career so far from opponets. It wasn't something new and you know why? Because he is not afraid to get blocked from the opponets, he will always attack the rim no matter who is front of him.

    Kind of off topic rant but in relation to evolution. Michael Jordan’s rookie season started in 1984, Bill Russell’s final championship and Jerry West Finals MVP was in 1969 a little over 15 years later. Wembenyama started in 2023 and the Champion 15years ago was the 2008 Celtics. My point being I see more of a drastic evolution in the freakishness of the average athlete from 2008 to now than I see from 1969 to 1984. Like the NBA hadn’t even become slightly more global in that time span , they just increased the number of teams from 14 to 23 and in the last 15 years number of teams expanded zero 30 to 30, so there’s a better case for 1969-1984 talent watering down. Yet it still seems the majority of NBA fans simultaneously think the 60s was plumbers and firemen and Jordan played in the peak era. It’s a common opinion Jordan would average even crazier numbers if he played today , yet I bet the majority don’t think Jerry West would even be a starter today when he played in an era with no 3pt line which made it the era that favored the big men most. They have to tell these exaggerated stories of how physical it was as if we can’t just go on KZread and see it’s an exaggeration but that’s how they justify not giving this era the credit it deserves.

    I think Giannis has disrespected a little bit too much the last two years. Either cause he caught in unlucky situations/moments, or cause the talent in the league is all time high, or maybe both. But the disrespect is loud, and if injuries are not in his way he’ll remind things to people by the end of the season.
