Great review! Gung Ho is one of my all-time favorite Joes, and I'm so happy they re-made him in this style.

@@Apunkwithtoys Few characters can look badass wearing aquamarine as their primary color. Gung Ho leans into it and still looks like a beast.

I like *two* versions of Gung-Ho - this one (from 1983 - dark green cap, bald and black moustache, no shirt with light blue sleeveless jacket, mere Marine) *and* his 1987 outfit (Marine dress blues; still bald and retains the black moustache); I additionally like his replacement character - Leatherneck (character from 1986 - 3 years post-1983, and has a black moustache). Interestingly, Gung-Ho’s 1987 ‘Marine dress blues’ outfit is available at the same time as Leatherneck (in that Leatherneck replaced Gung-Ho’s 1983 outfit; that version of Gung-Ho was a mere Marine). I additionally like (in that, IMO, this character looks like the 1983 version of Gung-Ho) Cutter (a character from 1984, who has a brown moustache, and is one of the drivers, hence his figure is boxed, with the vehicle he always drives - the Killer Whale).

Good review! I'm glad Hasbro finally gave us the Gung Ho we wanted. I think Valaverse making the Gung Ho kit and giving him his correct cover, vest and backpack, probably also pushed them to do it. I am disappointed that they couldn't get the Eagle Globe and Anchor "EGA" on his chest and cover. The Marine Corps "executives" are a bunch of money grubbing whores and lend their license to all sorts of crap I can't see them saying no to Hasbro. I think Hasbro didn't want a real EGA on him. It would be interesting to know the real story. The Valaverse gun is modeled after a Hudson H9, a very unique gun that is huge, low bore axis, that's why it looks like that. Gung Ho being a huge guy, in real life he would probably be the size of Brock Lesner so most guns would look tiny in his hand.

I’m not sure if the Valaverse kit had anything to do with it or if it was just cause they heard the fans and started shifting towards ARAH already, but we got what we wanted that’s for sure. I don’t know the reason they didn’t get the Marien logo and unlike some KZreadrs, I won’t make up shit and try and pass it off as fact. It took awhile before I believed the Hooded CC thing and had to see it in print before I would comment that was the reason. I agree most guns would look small on him, that’s why we give him the big guns 😉.

@@Apunkwithtoys That's what is so ridiculous. They won't do hooded CC because, of the KKK. When CC's 'blue' hood with no point, and the pointy white hood of the KKK have nothing to do with each other. Then, because they can't/won't use the official Marine emblem, they make something closer to one of the Nazi party emblems. SMH Another case of people going stupid and ass backwards!

Good review. I think if they started off with more realistic weapons and split the difference on the scifi look on classified gung ho they wouldn't have angered collectors so much. I'm more in the camp of making something new because I've had the old before. That being said the original gung ho classified just didn't appeal to me either. I liked Flint Duke and Scarlett, but it felt like they were doing their best work on the Cobra side with Major Bludd and the Cobra trooper..even Firefly if they toned down the best size. Really like the classified figures, but sometimes less is more when adding to the original look. Channel name caught my eye first and good work on the review.

Thank you for stopping by. I agree had they used real world weapons he would have been better, he looks good with the Valaverse SAW machine gun. Now I love the retro look of the new figures, but I also didn’t have an issue with how they were making them more modern. I think Flint was awesome.

The 5 language file cards was such a bad idea.

I could not agree more. I remember saying that it’s something pushed down from Hasbro where it has to me in 5 languages. If so, just remove it or do the file card with a pic and use the pictures that they do with the Classified figures. It’s just awful

I have had a Gun Ho figure in my hands since the original in the package it took me back.

I just got one today. The walmart I went to had one in stock by pure chance. And of all the retro cardback GI Joes there, most if not all of them had messed up, squashy packaging.

So far out of the 4 retro ones we have, this one is the best!!

I’m sure we will be getting those. The first Scarlett needs a redo, no double joints or anything on that figure.

Another dope review. I'm glad that G.H. has deco on his crotch piece and I hope that it's a continuing trend with the figures going forward. Hasbro is obviously cherry picking which licenses it's willing to pay for. They paid Sarge for the use of his likeness and Northrup Grumman for the use of the Tomcat, so why is it suddenly an issue concerning paying the Marines for the use of the Eagle, Anchor, & Globe insignia for G.H. and the Army for use of the Parachutist Badge for L.J., Duke, and Flint? Also, the Marines didn't reject Hasbro's application because the Leatherneck Pop has the E.G.A. on it and that came out in February of last year. I'm very tempted to call the Marine Trademark Licensing Office and see if Hasbro even submitted an application. This tattoo presents a potentially embarrassing situation for Hasbro because the tattoo bears a resemblance to the Reichsadler.

I’m sorry but I don’t see how the new tattoo looks anything like the nazi’s used. I’ve already seen the posts from the one guy saying it and to me that’s someone looking for an issue. There is nothing “iron” about what’s on his chest. There clearly is something that has kept them from getting permission, but it really doesn’t bother me
