I definitely prefer the classic look over the Cobra Island version. He looks thicker. Another figure that took the place of Classic Firefly was Valaverse's Urban Trooper. Then Grid Iron Studios made a much cooler accessory set for all the Firefly replacement figures. I had the original O-ring back in the day and he was also a ninja for me, whether intended or not. :)

The Grid Iron kits are so nice. The new “Classic” 84 is great for sure so either version is a win

cool review, the story was a nice personal touch. I think I especially appreciate because most of my 80s Joe years, I had no friend to play or talk about Joes, I had to keep for myself the whole or most. so it somehow brings warmth to me to explore the other bros s perspectives - visions. I m an early 82 adopter, I was 13, the age when you re about to quit toys for girls. but also when you take care enough of your things for long term. and had a little money coming my way, by focusing, I got all the line up of 82. I was amassing troops for Cobra, then 83 stuff came out, hiss, fangs, snakes and all. I tried to have equal armies to have great stories until about 87 where my life changed and had car payments, so could nt buy as much stuff. Firefly I m broke, and live in a small place, I have to only pick the best and dearest... and Firefly is one of them. my essential Cobra team Cobra Commander, Baroness, Storm shadow, Scrap iron, Firefly, Dr Mindbender, Slice & Dice, Destro s castle red ninjas. I missed Mindbender, and the others are not out yet. main troops ; officers, reg troopers, vipers, bats, toxo vipers. sadly I could only get pythonised vipers and bats, [4 each] 2 reg officers and no reg troopers yet. essential Joes Hawk, Snake, Scarlett, Grunt, Zap, Short fuse, Flash, Stalker, Spirit, Gung ho, Breaker, Doc, Torpedo, Nunchuk, Shooter, Duke, Airborne, Snow job. I m missing Breaker, Snow job, and Hawk + those coming. so mostly 82 - 83 team + exceptions. I was very surprised in 84 that new stuff came out, as there was enough already, and had a hard time keeping up. but it was to the price of stuff disappearing on shelves.... if you wanted Hawk, the leader in 84, you were f.... he was gone, you had to go with Duke. and I think it was pretty bad for the story line, as it s not wise to mess with the heroes. the story is Hawk vs CC and their team, remove one of them, and you re not left with much. I d argue that g.i. Joe would be much more popular if Hasbro made sure Hawk would be a strong leader - presence as Cap America for instance. it s very particular that many fans root for Cobra Commander.... the bad guy. but, he was always constant and had much presence. to the point where Hasbro removed the hood that some considered racist, heu, they re the bad guys, hence, not nice. I think it s a strong message to send that bad guys have bad values, and should be punished, no? [classified] if you can, finish your video of the character in poses, or with other figs in pictures, I appreciate the background, it puts the figs in context, beautiful! good show bro.

love the story! plus the comparison with 1:18 scale and cobra island firefly is cool. you got me hooked. looking forward to the next joe review! knowing is half the battle!

I’m not sure it comes across well in the video but the eyes actually look great. Not as “expressive” as CI but they did a nice job

I wish the cammo on CI went all the way onto his chest. I liked some of his accessories and that head sculpt, but the rest of him sits in a bin. I made a Valaverse firefly. I’m gonna get the new classified one, then see. I might have a problem. 😂

Great review. From the title, I initially thought the new classified version might have arrived broken. 😂 I can’t wait to get the new version. The vest on the CI version was the main issue for me. It was too bulky and restricted articulation too much.

Ha I wasn’t sure how to title it but yeah the only issue I had was the leg. Some hot water and it moves well. The vest is truly the only thing hindering such a great figure

Yes. I’m so sorry I’m just seeing this now. I’ll do a quick video but it’s easy. Get water hot(like for coffee not boiling) be careful and let the figure soak for a minute or two and boom! You’ll be surprised how easily they come apart. You may need to heat again when finishing your build but run under cold water to help reset the plastic. Good luck lmk how if this helps

I too upgraded my Cobra Island figure with 3d parts. Was not a fan of that bomb vest. I'm happy the way he came out. More than likely I will get the newer version too.

I was lucky enough to get my hand on the cobra Island firefly and i loved his updated look. I did preordered the sunbow designs Firefly and i don't mind having both versions in my collection

I really like the Cobra Island face sculpt better. The eyes just have a much better expression. The new one is a bit more blase. Otherwise I'm pretty good with the gear.

Discovered something better than boiling. It's the hot car method. You just put it inside an unused car (the darker the car the better) for a few. Left my Veteran William figure in my car the other day by accident and it was so easy to move when I finally got back to it that I thought I had ruined it but hes fine now. He was marionette type of floppy

They also have extractors made specifically for Philips screws that are stripped, just ask someone at harbor freight. Less then $5

My 3.75” Frostbite looks way worse than that Firefly figure. Frostbite’s missing his thumbs and half a leg. Classified’s great for replacing the figures that we beat the crap out of, as kids. 😄Thanks, for the early look, brother. Appreciate it. Also, the Call of Duty RC was from the Black Ops series.

That QRS code is Hasbro telling us that they hate their customers... 🤣🤣🤣 They don't need to reinvent the wheel. Kids growing up in the 80s like the file card, and they chose to ignore people who wants them to bring it back. I prefer the new Firefly. I hate the vested Cobra Island. He deploys explosives, not defuses them; there is no need for him to wear a vest. And I stopped reading GI Joe when they tried to make Firefly into a ninja. He is an army commando type, not a ninja. I love ninjas, but not everyone has to be a ninja.

The QR concept is totally lost here. They could do so much and be creative. That vest is a total hindrance for such a great figure. And yes as a kid it made sense for me to have him stand in but you’re right. People were so obsessed with martial arts in the 80s they tried to make too many characters skilled. Zartan a bike gang leader and Scarlett should not be near Ninja levels haha but it’s the lore
