"Ghoul Drug" Clue in Fallout 4 - Hancock
A lot of people are panicking that the Fallout TV show is breaking lore - particularly how it's playing fast and loose with ghoul lore. I don't think they're breaking something - I think they're just shining a light on something we haven't focused on before. Hancock's backstory in Fallout 4 may show us a clue of where they're going with this.

Is Fallout 4 kind of an old game these days? Sure. But that's kind of the point of this project, isn't it? Fallout isn't a franchise that is going away any time soon. It is unnervingly relevant. Now, more than ever, audiences are connecting to this story about an apocalyptic future brought on by rampant consumerism and unethical politics.
But you don't have time to put hundreds of hours into multiple video games to catch up.
What if there was a library of cinematic - or "machinematic" - Fallout quest films?
You heard me right, buster. I will crank these puppies out for as long as you bastards keep the lights on.
Want to learn more about lore but don't feel like fighting super mutants in the process?
You've already played for a 5000 hours, but there's one quest you never got around to. Now you have a lazy alternative!
You've been dying for that friend or relative who refuses to play video games to experience the wasteland. Now they can, and there will be no Hollywood betrayals of the source material.
Want to see a really useful application of mods - maybe YOUR mods - that FINALLY isn't pornographic? (Not even softcore! Innocent as blood and gore can be!)

I swear theres another example of ghoul serums elsewhere, I just can't put my finger on what it was.
Radiation does have the effect of making you live forever. Its basic science.
I kinda understand the connection but the stuff the squire drank wasn’t quite was Hancock described. I’ve seen some theories of ppl saying it’s FEV which would make you more durable and add a healing factor, and it would make you immune to radiation. But FEV is normally taken in much larger doses and has more immediate side effects. Another theory I’ve seen is that it’s a mutagen from 76 which also come in weird vials like in the show and are also directly consumed like in the show. The mutagen also does a huge range of things in the game so it could be that.
The problem with the whole ghoul drug thing isn't that it exists. We knew that with the bullshit Eddie Winter quest that retconed more ghoul lore again for a third time in their own game, but it's whatever. The issue is having to have a drug every day to keep from going feral. That alone retcons every single ghoul in the lore ever including Hancock and Eddie Winter. However the "only one hit last of its kind," is kinda reconned but again it's what ever. They fucked way wayyy more up that's more egregious than the drug that turns people into ghouls. I didn't really see anyone having an issue with that part, just the part where being a ghoul makes Cooper and Thadeus literal tanks that can't die and heal like Alucard but every other ghoul died in a single shot sometimes insignificant shots at that. With Emils track record I wasn't expecting much but even then I expected way more than what got delivered and I tried tempering expectations.
yo did our boy handcock pop chemo? 8I
i believe ghouls are made when someone is exposed to a small amount of the FEV virus (the ghoul from the first town u find in the first game was turned by a vat of FEV), and because ghouls are so prevalent in the world its possible that FEV has a mutated strain that has become mostly harmless to the point where it acts as a common cold, but exposure to radiation can cause it to "reactivate"
@botmes4044
Ай бұрын
Thank you so much for saying the quiet part out loud. Bethesda has been trying very hard for more than a decade to place a pall of doubt over the origin of Ghouls, but when you piece together the evidence it becomes quite obvious that it's FEV. The show then came this >||< close to confirming it with Thaddeus, but left out enough detail to keep it a mystery and leave us all arguing about it.
I knew i remember something about hancock goong on about drugs when i watched the show but i thought it was the line about a drop in an ocean of drugs lol

Then ghoul drug is stupid and ruins the canon.
Isnt hancock mayor mcdonoughs brother, and was best friends with a ghoul in diamond city, however mcdonough began to act strange one day and kicked out ghouls (although one of his best friends was one). This led hancock to leave, becoming a ghoul by subjecting himself to mass ammounts of radiation and starting the settlement of goodneighbour? (I googled it, he was subjected to a strange radioactive drug, most likrly the same one thaddeus was, and yes, the two mayors are brothers)
@Dante.-
Ай бұрын
Well technically the mayor isn’t his brother anymore. If anything the mayor is your grandson technically
I personally believe the drug that the squire took was related to the vials that they were refining from the ghouls in the earlier episodes.
He likely found the completed version of the drug used in the Eddie Winter process.

So Handcock is basically Keith Richards 😂
It wasn't the drug itself that made him a ghoul, its Rads that made him a ghoul. It's pretty clear in the lore of fallout, that some go feral and some keep their sanity either though genetics or exposure rates or both on the individual.
I mean maybe, but FEV is also very likely. They assumed he may become a ghoul, but healing the way Thaddeus did is more of a supermutant thing. I think the ghoul assumption is a misdirect, and they'll all be in a situation where they are worried about him becoming a ghoul, so they might set up some precautions, like lock him in a room while they sleep, only to find when they all wake up, he's a super mutant, and the precautions aren't actually enough to contain him. He'll break free, they'll all fight while trying to get him to recognize who he is and realize what happened to him, but he'll strugle to come to his senses and respond with low intelligence supermutant talk, and maybe he'll come to his senses, or he'll succumb to the mutation and end up running off in a panicked rage. But what do i know, I'm just an innocent ol' youtube comment, dont mind me.

It was super jet.
I wonder if this has any relation to the girl doing the experiment in that unmarked location near Bunker Hill.
"what's your story character?" *Recites character info* Excellent writing there Bethesda

@@DarkKatzy013 I think they could have done is what they did a lot more in previous games where the character story is behind branching dialog options instead of like you said an info dump

"Hey Veronica, what's the BOS's story here?" *cue 45 fucking minutes of dialog if you ask her everything and dont skip* If you in any way enjoy how Veronica works versus Hancock, please just know that's hypocritical.

@@matthewsimon6170 don't bother... if they mention Bethesda you already know they are an angry cultist preaching their religion, not a rational person having an interactive conversation. New Vegas fans are like Sons of Atom...
That guy in the show would probably become a super mutant in my opinion
seems like it could be the medicine that Thaddeus received in the show, only difference is Hancock got stoned and Thaddeus got healed.
so it just like doses them with rads? since they’re ghouls that heals them i guess it makes sense
Inhaled a nice canister of something called F.E.V
I wouldn't be surprised if the drug isn't particularly special, but just either some defect in certain Radaway mixtures or some kinda 3rd party brand. Because we see enough ghouls (both feral and non-feral) that whatever is causing the change must be something fairly common. So, knowing the Fallout Universe and how effective things like the "portable shelters" seem to be. I would not be surprised if some other company made a cheap "alternative" brand of Rad-Away or Rad-X that causes ghoulification in those who have any kind of radiation exposure. Manufacturers likely assumed the bombs would never drop and the drug wouldn't need to actually work, or that the bombs would drop and nobody would be alive to complain about it being defective.
Harold was made into a tree by the FEV. So it's implied Hancock got infected by something similar
I like when Hancock talks soft. My ears don't hurt when i hear him like this
I'd love to play fallout as a ghoul it'd be a really interesting thing if they made it cannon but I've been on about that since fo3 doubt it'll actually happen
Smoking dat FEV pack
Ah yes all the way in boston
I like the idea that some ghouls age much slowly but I don't really like the idea that all of them do
Sooo the Ghouls habe a half life like radioactive materials? Neet
So he found what eddie winter used
😅 I think hes talking about the water out of the Far Harbour DLC. Where u need to the drink out of the Well or waterfall
Thad, is that you?
Where can we find such drugs ?😮
Jet
This brings up an interesting train of thought: Once the radiation from the bombs eventually die out for good (God knows how long that will take), would it be possible for ghouls to slowly dissapear from Fallout without radiation making more of them and age (eventually) killing them off?

The radiation is already gone in most places, save for some like the glowing sea that will take an eternity to heal, if they ever do. The land there is so soaked through that It just runs with the weather and re-spreads out constantly. Many places are healed though, if not all besides those few, by ~210 years later in 4
I always kill the ghoul companions. Thought they might turn feral on me.
Plug a lil weird but he cool
I mean those people are basically Deadpool
It was for Eddie Winters Girlfriend
