Ghostbusters was a massive success in 1984, but it took more than half a decade for the world to get a second one! Why? I don’t know. That information is probably available on Google. Reasons, presumably.
Ghostbusters 2 definitely raises some questions. Like did they just redo every beat of the first movie but slightly different? Is Venkman even a Ghostbuster or are we just following his love life? And most importantly, how did everyone forget that ghosts exist?!
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Ghostbusters 2!

If they phrased or explained it differently like they do not officially declare ghosts as currently existing since Dozer was defeated then that plot point could have made more sense at least.

Yeah this is the sloppiest pitch meeting I’ve ever seen. Usually all his points are right on the money but so many are off here. He totally half assed this one. Like the whole “aren’t they famous from the first movie” when the movie totally shows they are still famous! The opening scene has them at a birthday party. Crowds cheering for them at court. Just because a few characters don’t recognize them or don’t believe in ghosts doesn’t mean EVERYONE feels that way. Think of the world we live in. We went to the moon and like 40% of people think it was faked. Shit some people believe the world is flat! Just because people see something doesn’t mean they believe it,

I imagine the Pitch Meeting for Highlander 2 would have the script guy pretending to be high on coke because I'm pretty sure that's how the movie was really written. Never have I ever seen a sequel change the canon of the original so drastically.

Love the call out about the 2 minute TV show. Never thought of it that way. Amazing observation. Same with all the GBs now working with kids (This allowed Ivan Reitman to feature his daughter and son in scenes back to back)

@@jeremyf9124 In a deleted scene in the psych ward, a patient there mentions that he read the book about predicting the end of the world. Not sure if that was to remind the audience of what happened on the show, or if they filmed the show scene later to replace it. There is also a deleted scene of the show which has some of the same jokes, like the hairless pets, and I think has a version of the UFO lady on, but does not have the author who predicted the end of the world the next year in it.

Thank you for this! I've always took issue with these Ghostbusters films not really making a lot of sense but being mildly entertained. This one is probably my favorite out of any others even though both the first movie and this sequel play out as parody of themselves and the jokes are not usually that funny. Although I will admit the best part for me are the song selections whether the "Higher and Higher" song or that Bobby Brown song "Guess We're Gonna Have To Take Control". (I know these probably aren't the right names for the songs lol)
