@@rojelio011I'll double down on your comment and say GB2 is definitely a better film than the 1st one. It's literally a refinement of the 1st film with a better score and soundtrack, better special effects, scarier scenes and ghosts, better action pieces, better use of its overall cast and stronger storytelling.

This is the way I felt since GB: Afterlife. That sentimental scene with Egon's ghost made me cry and all, but it was not enough for me to let slide all of the many BIG problems that movie had.

@@REELSHIFT It's not about nostalgia, though. You would consider yourself a "movie lover", right? And as such, I would think you would view movies as being "art". What is happening in Hollywood with all the remakes, reboots and sequels is a bit more nuanced than you realize. (From BBC Arts) In Munich, Adolf Hitler staged two exhibitions which defined the way we think about modern art. The Great German Art show displayed the artists he approved of, the Degenerate Art show displayed the artists he despised. In these two exhibitions, mounted side by side in adjacent galleries, *the battle lines were drawn between traditionalism and modernism.* It’s a battle that’s still being fought today. Do you like art that’s realistic and reassuring? Or do you prefer art that’s experimental or disturbing? Maybe you like a bit of both - in which case, you’re like a lot of people who went to see these shows. The Nazis wanted people to see both shows, but they didn’t want people to make up their own minds. The idea was to see the Degenerate Art show, and see how German art had been debased - and then see the Great German Art show, and see how the Nazis has redeemed it. (From Wikipedia) "Bread and circuses" (or bread and games; from Latin: panem et circenses) is a metonymic phrase referring to *superficial appeasement.* It is attributed to Juvenal (Satires, Satire X), a Roman poet active in the late first and early second century AD, and is used commonly in cultural, particularly political, contexts. In a political context, the phrase means to generate public approval, *not by excellence* in public service or public policy, but by diversion, distraction, *or by satisfying the most immediate or base requirements of a populace,* by offering a palliative: for example food (bread) or *entertainment (circuses).* Juvenal originally used it to decry the "selfishness" of common people and their neglect of wider concerns. The phrase implies a population's erosion or ignorance of civic duty as a priority. This phrase originates from Rome in Satire X of the Roman satirical poet Juvenal (c. 100 AD). In context, the Latin panem et circenses (bread and circuses) identifies the only remaining interest of a Roman *populace that no longer cares for its historical birthright of political involvement.* Here Juvenal displays his contempt for the *declining heroism* of contemporary Romans, using a range of different themes, *including lust for power* and desire for old age to illustrate his argument. Juvenal here makes reference to the Roman practice of providing free wheat to Roman citizens as well as *costly circus games and other forms of entertainment as a means of gaining political power.* The Annona (grain dole) was begun under the instigation of the aristocratic popularis politician Gaius Sempronius Gracchus in 123 BC; *it remained an object of political contention until it was taken under the control of the autocratic Roman emperors.* (From BigThink dot com) Step one of the "Four steps for ideological subversion" (Yuri Bezmenov, 1985) Demoralization - this is a process which can take about 15-30 years to perform (a generation). *During this stage, the moral fibre and integrity of the country is put into question, thereby creating doubt in the minds of the people. To do so, manipulation of the media and academia is required to influence young people.* As the younger generation embraces new values, such as Marxism and Leninism, the older generation slowly loses control simply through attrition. Again, true facts no longer matter during this stage, but rather creating perceptions are of paramount importance. Communism and Religion Abolished - all religious and metaphysics is rejected. Engels and Lenin agreed that religion was a drug or “spiritual booze” and must be combated. To them, atheism put into practice meant *a “forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions.”* ---As someone once said in movie that divided its fanbase a few years back, "Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to." Eliminating American exceptionalism, fundamental change of national identity, structural deconstruction of foundational principles, elimination of religion. *Embedding a new societal design upon the psyche of generations through ideological academia, peer pressure by elites upon academics and society to convince that prior values were inherently flawed, racist, prejudiced etc. National identity is diluted with aspersions toward historical references. National History is re-written, re-defined, and molded to fit the new intended behavioral model and create the new values.* ---Art is history. Established IP like Ghostbusters, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones (and so on) are a part of our national, cultural/social and (for millions of people) individual history. Movie sequels and reboots made for the mythical "modern audience" are a form of rewriting that history to fit Marxist ideologies. Don't assume I am going on some "anti-woke" rant here, I am just explaining what is happening. On many levels, it would appear as though Liberals are trying to turn the US and Western civilization into a Communist society. One thing they are doing is providing superficial appeasement to a small, vocal minority on social media through entertainment. As we see time and time again, providing an excellent end product is not the main concern, but rather promoting "THE MESSAGE" of "Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, Feminism and LGBTQ normalization". Our old heroes are deconstructed and turned into hollow shells of what they once were, with new heroes being boring, annoying, preachy self-inserts and Mary Sues. Heroism is once again on the decline. The traditional art is being/has been debased by Liberals, and the Government wants you to see that. You are not supposed to like these new movies (or the ideologies behind them), but dislike them and look for a way to return to the traditional way of doing things. The way this will be accomplished is through a revolutionary change of power in which a new Emperor/Fuhrer takes control from the Liberals to bring glory back to the State. #45, soon to be #47, is the man who has been chosen to lead the revolution in the name of God and Country. What is the “7 Mountains Mandate” (Dominionism/Dominion Theology)? Supposedly there are 7 “mountains” of global society-Arts and Entertainment, Education, Economy, Family, Government and Military, Media and Religion. (Note: The US voting machines are called “Dominion”.) According to this false teaching, by conquering these 7 “mountains”, the Kingdom of God will be established. Look up US Public Law 102 dash 14 and the "Seven Laws of Noah", then you will understand what this is leading up to.

The main problem for Ghostbusters as a franchise is that the story was over at the end of the 1984 original. Peter Venkman had gone on a character arc, starting as a womanizing jokester to being deathly quiet at the sight of the charred devil dog that had once been Dana Barrett. Ghostbusters ‘84 needed no follow up. I don’t like the sequel, but I know that a lot of people grew up with it. Some movies should just remain one and done.

Just like the fast and furious , Resident Evil movies the same with Underworld, police academy. When you’re talking about rabid hardcore fan bases who devoured them to no end the studios will keep making more of them this is one franchise will constantly make the same mistakes over and over again by hitting the nostalgia drum hard . Come by the following movies in the franchise that the remaining original cast may not be around in the next twenty years.

Listen, the reason why you think it's a bad movie because you don't like McKenna Grace. She did everything to make you happy and this is the thanks she's getting? Honestly you're ungrateful. When Sony pictures make a movie, you'd better be glad that they released it. Because if it hadn't been for them we wouldn't have gotten Ghostbusters or any movie. Nobody cares about what you think. Either you get with the program or don't watch it at all. Nobody wants to hear you whining. If you've got a problem with that, save it for those who cares.@@REELSHIFT

They really should have looked to the Real Ghostbusters cartoon for inspiration for the future of the franchise. You have younger Ghostbusters... why not have the Boogeyman be the villain of this movie and draw from the two episodes featuring him? Sandman could have been awesome. Samhain and a Halloween theme? I'll probably see this movie next week but yeah reviews aren't getting me excited for it.

It’s sad to hear that this second movie was a flop. Ghostbusters is so beloved to me since a child and I would watch it anytime it was on and still enjoy it just the same as I did as when I first watched both movies…so when I heard about Afterlife I was like…I don’t know… especially how I see Hollyweird using loved IPs and just making a mess of them.. So when I finally did see Afterlife and all the surprises of the old cast coming back…omg I couldn’t stop my excitement…but I love the fact that they paid a nice tribute to Harold Ramis…I cried so much at the end when you got a last glimpse of him…very touching…I love it…..so I was hoping they would make this new movie work into something special too but hearing this…I’ll give a pass…I love Paul Rudd too, so it’s a shame they didn’t give him much to work in this…

I know it's a late reply, saw this movie in theaters last month or so. Hardly did anybody show up, just myself, my uncle, brother, and my mom. And a two loving couple was the only ones watching it. I had plans on skipping this movie, but it was all my brother's idea, so I had force myself to watch it.... Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire..... Uhhh.... It's horrible. I grew up with the classics, I was born in the 2000's, my parents actually introduced me the originals to me, I still love it till this day. The opening to frozen empire was fine, to be fair, but it goes down south from there. It feels more like a teen comedy / drama than ghostbusters to me, Too many characters and it does takes a while for something exciting happens. But it last like what..... 9mins? or 10mins? the whole New york freezes over for a short period of time, and the villain is easily defeated. Which honestly, I like some ideas from it, the villain design looks cool, but what a waste of opportunity. This gets a 1/10

Watching the movie felt like I was watching an episode of the real ghostbusters.. But an episode of the real ghostbusters didn’t have too much storylines as this one did. You could cut one of them out and you will still get the same story. Even though there was a lot going on, it felt like their many side plots didn’t bring much. Not to mention there wasn’t much of a build up like the first and second one; I think the only build ups were present was the characters talking about how much of a big threat the ghost was.. that was it. I’ll admit, I was hype for this movie and I thought it was awesome. But after the hype went down, I thought “frozen empire was okay I guess” If they ever do make more films, I’m gonna keep my expectations low.

*Spoiler alert* As someone who absolutely loved Afterlife and all previous Ghostbuster movies with a passion, I was terribly disappointed in this lazily written and poorly executed sequel. It felt like the movie needed an extra 30-45 minutes to truly develop the storyline and characters but never got there. Bill Murray was palpably unenthusiastic and Dan Akroyd was okay at best. The billionaire philanthropist, Winston Zeddemore, created a state-of-the-art ghost jail and research facility, and then apparently proceeded to hire a child and stereotypical science nerd to run the place, while simultaneously forgetting to install a security system, hire a guard, or install a backup power generation system which the entire place relied on to keep ghosts in their cells. The villain, "Garraka", was too graphic for younger audience members, while also lacking any real depth as a bad guy. Its always puzzling that these ancient souls existed before the earliest known languages, but somehow manage to speak modern English at the same time. The final battle resulted in most of the characters being frozen, yet miraculously reanimating just in time for the final battle. The containment system which blew up and released every ghost ever caught was also somehow turned into the trap that caught Garraka. No real conclusion as to what happened to all the other ghosts that were released as we are to assume they were just magically trapped at the same time even though they were assumedly spread out all over the tristate area. To wrap this up, even though I could go on, the manner in which Phoebe melted down brass using a handheld torch and then proceeded to pour it over the particle accelerator without any collateral damage to any of the other sensitive components was laughably dumb and completely unbelievable. Honestly, the rare moments I caught myself enjoying this movie were the moments when Kumail would seemingly join me in my disbelief of the nonsense they were trying to sell us. His comedic performance saved this movie from being a total failure, even though his character somehow mastering the ancient magic skill of being a fire master went from not believing in it at all, to him struggling to light a candle, to defeating Garraka within the span of a few hours. I truly hope the franchise doesn't become another Marvel-esque cash-grab, but if this film was any clue, I have low expectations for future sequels but hope they will use the same formula as Afterlife if they do.

I remember over a decade ago thinking that Paul Rudd would make a good GB. But as a ... comedian like he is in other movies? So weird that these productions casted him and just put him on the back burner as a bland unfunny character. There's so much you could do in a new Ghostbusters, but despite all that -- a true GBIII at its core should be a story about a new crew of ADULTS taking up the mantle -- played by the funniest comedians of the day. What's so hard about that? 🤦

Has anyone else noticed that the poster for Ghostbusters Frozen Empire looks a lot like the poster for Star Wars Last Jedi? It has a similar white & grayish background & the characters are wearing all red like the cloaks on The Last Jedi promotional poster. That was the divisive 2nd movie to the safe legacy sequel or "SOFT REBOOT" (I hate that term) to that franchise. Now this is the devisive legacy sequel to the safe soft reboot or "requel" to this franchise. I hope they don't do like Star Wars & so many other franchises where the 3rd one becomes damage control & they try to create a hybrid between the safe requel & the divisive sequel to the safe requel & upset fans more! 😫I certainly hope that's not what happens in this case but knowing the formula these uncreative, lazy Hollywood filmmakers in Hollywood seem to all follow, I'm afraid that's what's coming. 🎬📽😢

The film making itself was bad, the script, directing , editing and some camera work, lack of outside shots, jump cuts all over the place. It all made it feel like a low budget TV series for like 95% of the movie just being inside set pieces . You have a few scenes at the start and end that you feel 'ok i can see this cost some money' but that's like 20 minutes of the film. The bloated cast and nostalgia bait is the primary cause. I think they need Christopher Landon to direct, that would be my choice. Scott Lobdell to write. I'd ask scott to write up a script with fewer characters but more human antagonism, like have there be a government division trying to build it's own competing ghostbusters team from confiscated equipment and build the story around this government team failing to take the big bad , getting possessed and becoming an anti-ghostbusters team so you can set up a very different end where it's ghostbusters vs anti-ghostbusters (they have new proton blast proof suits so there can be a shootout without dying, add tension by making the suits have limited charges for the shielding) . It would be more marvel/action oriented and what i think would attract younger audiences. They want super hero movies and for that you can't just do the end boss concept on its own with a whole hour of boring family drama. You can have it there but its got to be interwoven .

What does Sony Pictures have to do with anything beyond they paid for the production? It will never stop being hilarious how many people want to blame the studio and ignore the people like Jason Reitman who went on about what amazing ideas he had for sequels after Afterlife. Sometimes a studio should clearly step in. IF anything Ghostbusters should have been left alone after Harold Ramis passed. We already knew that Dan Aykroyd is incapable of writing a competent script on his own. Its been said that Ghost Smashers was hot garbage until Ramis fixed it, he did what he could with Ghostbusters 2 and his 3rd movie was deemed completely unfilmable and too expensive. The only time a story written by Dan Aykroyd was left alone and nobody fixed it we got Nothing But Trouble a massive mess, an expensive bomb that was only ignored by the studio because of his name and the studio was extremely busy with the filming of I believe Bonfire of the Vanities

I think the self aggrandising at the 2:00 mark encapsulates why so many critics are wide of the mark with this one. It’s Ghostbusters. It’s not Kurosawa. If you want more from your movies why are you consuming popcorn cinema? It’s a fun film that’s designed to entertain on a superficial level so that’s how you approach it. If you come at it like it’s Scorsese’s Mean Streets you will be disappointed. This was a wonderfully made feel good follow on to Afterlife.

I doubt many of them even know why they like the film so much besides being fun (to clarify, there's nothing wrong with having fun.....just people shouldn't use that to discredit criticism). Anyways, just wanted to mention that the Director (who did Monster House and Poltergeist 2015 remake) and the writer (son of comedic director who did the 1st & 2nd Ghostbusters), drew inspiration from The Real Ghostbusters, thus "wanting to make a long episode from the animated series", according to one of the actors. Probably why the film came out the way it did. A combo of these two with a very mixed resume were only going to produce nothing but an average product imo. Also, they are already planning MULTIPLE movies with the same director & writer. You're excited Reel lol?

I am not judging it until I see it 3 times. Why? Because the first time is all about EXPECTATIONS. You aren't watching the movie FOR WHAT IT IS. The 2nd viewing is seeing it for the first time already knowing what to expect, picking up on more details, maybe things I missed. Seeing how it feels to watch it for what it IS and not for what I HOPED it would be. The 3rd viewing is rewatching the movie I know and seeing how I feel about it. Why would anyone do that? I don't know, how many times have you seen Ghostbusters 1? I watch it at least once a year. That's 40 times. Who watches a movie 40 times? I remember not liking Ghostbusters 2 when it came out. I love it now. Alien Covenant was dogshit when I first saw it. Now it's one of my favorite Alien movies. (I DID NOT SAY ONE OF THE BEST. I SAID ONE OF MY FAVORITES!) Maybe I will hate Frozen Empire on the 3rd watch. But then I will KNOW I hate it, and not just think that I do. I saw 'Answer the Call' 3 times. It was best on the first viewing and the flaws only became more glaring with each rewatch. Now I know I don't like it and I can explain exactly why in great detail.

In the next movie they will do the scoleri brothers and Vigo and throw more nostalgia so the rabid fans eating it up at every turn and regurgitate collectible popcorn tins and novelty items. Lastly with this movie it really wasn’t heavy advertised on my street that only one bus had it advertised it’s quite obviously the Sony shills will never be negative about this movie in fears of getting black listed from future ghostbusters press events. I grew up on ghostbusters and it shouldn't rely on old cast members to be good! It's the writing. The writers today try too hard to be like marvel or use over the top effects just to use them, or use today's trends like the drone and female empowerment and terrible comedy moments like the stay puft marshmello gremlins ect. I'm seeing stuff like this in every damn film today. If they would have copy pasted 80s, 90s,even early 2kwriting wrote the story out toward a new big bad entity of some sort like the slime or like the frozen big bad of this new film, I think it would be better. Every film today constantly uses today's trends it's terrible "don't forget to like and subscribe"- ppppfffttt😭🤬 pretty much the reason every film is garbage these days. Example Indiana jones did ok cause it somewhat stayed writen to how the over ark of those films play out usually. Imagine if indy tried to fight using drones-that's the other example, if they did that.. That to me is "Tried too hard to fit today's trends in a film" . That's why I feel this ghostbusters film should fire it's writers. And why marvel and many other big films in general are sinking. Jumanji is another I'm sad about.

I actually thought they turned down the "nostalgia bait" in this one. The new cast was more front and center and their interactions with the old cast was more purposeful. Also, I don't get the criticism of the teenage girl acting like a teenage girl. Yes shes super smart, but she's not emotionally mature. I'm surprised you didn't like the expansion of the Ghostbuster Corp.I think that fleshes out universe and shows that older busters are looking to pass down the mantle. Though it could also lead to some awful spin offs. I took Paul Rudds cringe jokes to be from his being a fan of the ghostbusters, because in this universe, he would have grown up when they were saving the world. makes sense that he would be obsessed over them. Movie was far from perfect, but was an enjoyable time at the theater.

And it's a hit. From my end there are, a shitload of fans that actually love the movie. Right now it is #1 movie in America. So a lot of good critics are really full of it. It's what the fans that count, not the other way around. *SCREW THE DAMN CRITICS!*

Most fans are looking at movies with fan goggles on, that's where the term comes from. That's not to say fans are always wrong either, there's nuanced opinions. Just like there are some critics who can't be trusted as well. In this case however I think the critics got it right. Imo

Only one thing to say about these remakes « GOD THEY JUST DON'T KNOW WHEN TO QUIT !!!! » And that goes for either movie studios and movie goers. Don't people learn from their mistakes anymore?

@@REELSHIFT Nostalgia bait or remake, demake, reboot, soft reboot, sequels, its all the same garbage. They are using all the nostalgia crap they can think off, and shove it down your throat without an once of originality, just to get you in the theater and take your money and your time AKA your life ! And some people are still falling for it after all the flops we've seen for the last 10 years now. Pathetic

I can handle a shitty movie but was it "Woke"? Hopefully it doesn't enter that area of flushing money down the drain. Also i'm sure you know what i mean by "woke" Basicslly any messages, Man hating, virtue signaling, or projecting that is forced and not needed.

You are wrong. I grew up on ghostbusters and it shouldn't rely on old cast members to be good! It's the writing. The writers today try too hard to be like marvel and or use today's trends like the drone and female empowerment and terrible comedy moments like the stay puft marshmello gremlins ect. I'm seeing stuff like this in every damn film today. If they would have copy pasted 80s writing but made it frozen empire big bad I think it would be better. Every film today constantly uses today's trends it's terrible "don't forget to like and subscribe"- ppppfffttt😭🤬 pretty much the reason every film is garbage these days.

Should have been left in the 80's. the Original characters are just too old. Just like the recent Indiana Jones.

The very idea of kids being able to do the same "bustin" that adults in their primes had problems with, was the most ridiculous thing in the Afterlife...I mean, you have lines in the original two GBs where they specifically point out the weight of the proton weapons - just that thing alone takes out the "exclusivity" of being a GB in general. I mean, if kids can be GBs, that makes it "saving the World by busting ghosts" probably the easiest and lamest task ever. But I still might give it a chance, I heard Ray has a quite big role in this one and he was always my favorite !!!

start realising they are making these films for younger people and not people in their 40s bud. from a 36 year old.

Yeah but younger people aren't connecting with it either. And if tha6s the case then stop using the old cast to try to sell the movie
